How to unlock the Complete Chaos achievement in SEGA Mega Drive Ultimate Collection - Definitive Guide

The easiest way to get this is to press UP, DOWN, LEFT, RIGHT and then A and START together in time with the music on the title screen. This will then let you select the special stage straight away and you can save as soon as the level starts.

Chaos Emeralds can be found in the Special Zones. To get to the Special Zone you need to finish any Act (that doesn't have a boss) with 50 rings or more. Once you get to the end of the act there will be a large ring, jump into that and you will be taken to the Special Zone. This is like a rotating maze, so avoid the "Goal" circles as that will transport you out of the zone, and make your way to the emerald, they're usually encased in diamonds that you need to roll/jump on to make them disappear. Once you collect the Chaos Emerald, the achievement is yours.

also if you are having problems with the special zone ( exiting before you have the jem ) just press the back button and save your game just before you enter the special zone , then if you exit too early simply load game at begining of the special zone and try again .

This is a relatively simple achievement to attain. If you have played Sonic the Hedgehog before, you'll know how to obtain a chaos emerald already. If not, it's relatively simple. All you have to do is collect 50 rings in Act 1 or 2 of any zone (note that Act 3, the boss act in each zone, does not allow you to get to the special zone). When you get to the end of the act with your 50 rings, you'll find a large gold ring floating in midair. Simply jump into that ring and you'll be transported to a special stage. In order to get a chaos emerald, you need to find it in the special stage. This is different for every special stage but there are always a few constants - the emerald will be in a maze, surrounded by breakable pieces you have to hit to free it, or both, and there'll always be blocks in the maze which could make you lose and send you back. If you need help with getting the any of the chaos emeralds, please take a look at the attached YouTube video from megagrey.

If you find you keep losing the special stages, you can save the game as soon as you get into the special stage by pressing the back button and selecting save. Then you can return to the stage as often as you like until you get the emerald and win the achievement.

Once you have completed this achievement, you'll also be able to win this one in the Xbox Live Arcade version of the original Sonic the Hedgehog:

Sonic The Hedgehog (Arcade)Chaos EmeraldThe Chaos Emerald achievement in Sonic The Hedgehog (Arcade) worth 12 pointsGet one Chaos Emerald.

This achievement is the same as Complete Chaos (although it'll net you 1/3 of the score you get for this one at just 10G).

The requirement for this achievement is exactly the same as the original Sonic The Hedgehog (Arcade) Achievements game that was released for the XBox Live Arcade...

Sonic The Hedgehog (Arcade)Chaos EmeraldThe Chaos Emerald achievement in Sonic The Hedgehog (Arcade) worth 12 pointsGet one Chaos Emerald.

There are 6 Chaos Emeralds to collect in total in Sonic The Hedgehog 1. They can only be obtained in the Special Stages.

To enter a Special Stage, you must first collect a total of 50+ Rings, then successfully complete the level with the required amount of Rings. If you have done this you will see a Giant Ring at the end of the level. Once you have past the Finish Sign, you need to quickly jump inside the Ring, before Sonic runs off the screen and then you will then enter in the Special Stage.

A Special Stage is when Sonic is in a permanent spinball, and you must guide him around the arena, passing obstacles and objects to successfully find the Chaos Emerald. Collect the Chaos Emerald in the level, and you will successfully unlock this achievement.

Note: You can only enter Giant Rings on Act 1 or Act 2 in the Zones available in the game, for instance Green Hill Zone Act 1 or Starlight Zone Act 2. You cannot enter a Giant Ring on Act 3's, because they are all boss levels.

To those unfamiliar with this popular Mega Drive title.

Chaos Emeralds are earned in the bonus stages. To get a bonus stage, you must finish a level with 50 or more rings and jump into the giant ring in the top right of the screen at the end of level goal spinner.

You can only do this in Act 1 or Act 2 of a Zone because in Act 3, there will be a Boss fight/capsule instead of a goal spinner.

I advise that if you don't have a bonus stage in either Act 1 or 2 of Green Hill Zone, you should reset the game and try again because the later zones are much harder to hold onto rings in.

Getting the bonus stage is only halfway there though because you are now in a revolving maze which usually has the chaos emerald at the other end of the maze. You can use the jump button to jump from the walls of the maze but the gravity from the maze revolving will also help you along.

In order to get the emerald, try to avoid the Goal sections of the maze as that will end the bonus stage and you exit without the emerald.

Sometimes the rings form an arrow to point you towards the emerald.

You'll know that you're close to the emerald when you pass some transparent red and white blocks that become solid when you pass through them, that is normal and it is a sign that the emerald is in this room (usually behind a big wall of destroyable rhombus shapes) although watch out, there are still Goals in these rooms.

When you get the emerald, the trophy will pop on the results screen.
