Alternately, you can unlock this achievement through Superstars mode. The Super Monkey Ball court has a mission dedicated to trick shots. You get 5 shots, you have to hit 3 to complete the mission. If you hit 4 or 5, you get this achievement.
Of course you'll have to unlock the mission first, but it's not hard and you'll have to do it for some of the other achievements anyway.

I got 4 out of 5 on the mission but no achievement :/

That's odd. I got it on there and I also missed one, not sure why it wouldn't work for you.

A less frustrating way of doing it selecting Super Monkey Ball through the Superstars menu and then picking "Make a trick shot". This way you get five chances of making four trickshots instead of only one and having to go through all that other crap.

Play through the Super Monkeyball level until you reach the mini-game called "Make a Trickshot." Have a look at what you need to do to make the shot, which is to get the black ball into the gate. The easiest way to explain it is just to hit the white ball in the dead center with lots of power, and you will make the shot. Getting four black balls in the gates will also get you a AAA score for this mini-game.

Ok, I figured out why me and apparently several others were having trouble... I think. Turns out this achievement is simply GLICHY.
If you land all 4 trick shots and get the AAA rating and don't have the cheevo just turn your console off and turn it back on and do it again. At least that's what worked for me.
For anyone else who had this let me know if this works for you.
