How to unlock the Coliseum Champion achievement in Sega Vintage Collection: Golden Axe - Definitive Guide
There will be 15 rounds. The early ones are very simple and you'll most likely only struggle with the latter rounds when there are 2 or more enemies on screen. In the video, I show myself playing through all the rounds and giving tips on the enemies you encounter.

To all who are curious, the special attack is Jump+Attack. It took me a few minutes to figure out how to pull that off.

You need to clear all 15 battles without dying, your life does not regenerate and there is no magic. Thanks to the save game feature this one is not as hard as on the original Sega console. I would save my game at the start of every battle if I screwed up or just took a beating I would reload and try again. I got to the 15th battle with 5 bars of life left this way.
I used the dwarf as his jumping attack is great especially on the skeletons in the 14th battle.
Battle 1: Brown Longmoan X1
Battle 2: Green Heninger on Chicken Leg X1
Battle 3: Green Lizardman X1
Battle 4: Green Heningers X2
Battle 5: Red Longmoans on Green Dragons X2
Battle 6: Skeletons X2
Battle 7: Silver Longmoans X2 one on Chicken Leg and one on Purple Dragon.
Battle 8: Sergeant Bitter X1
Battle 9: Red Lizardmen X2
Battle 10: Green Minotaurs X2
Battle 11: Gold Heninger X1 and Gold Longmoans X2
Battle 12: Purple Lizardmen X2
Battle 13: Blue Minotaurs X2
Battle 14: Skeletons X3
Battle 15: Colonel Bitters X2

Assigning "Special Move" to trigger and using that is far more effective than jump+attack. Works on everything except Bitters which have longer range than the dwarf.

Another tip I would like to add for the levels where you are having problems is to just save every 2-3 successful attacks without taking damage. I just cleared through the entire duel mode without taking 1 hit in roughly 25 minutes using the extra saves.

This solution just adds to the other ones listed.
This technique will conserve your life tremendously.
- As stated like the others, pick Gillius (the dwarf) as your character.
- Press back to go into your options.
- Go into your settings to change your controls.
- Assign RT with the attack button (B) and jump button (C) for the 'special attack' command. (you can also activate rapid fire if you like)
Smaller Enemies (Goblins, Skellies, Lizardmen, etc.)
Now when each round starts and the enemies (mostly the smaller enemies) start to line up with you on either sides, quickly press the RT button to knock them away. During their wake up, make sure to bait their running attack and dodge it to avoid damage. After you baited them just line them up and use the 'special attack' again. Rinse and Repeat until they are done.
Creature Riding Enemies
For the creature riding enemies, I either attack them as quick as possible or I did a jump attack (spam attack after the jump) to knock them off. I avoided getting on the creatures and baited the enemies to try to get back on, then I would hit them with the 'special attack' while they were trying to mount.
Bigger Enemies
The bigger characters were a bit more tricky to handle but I found a way to counter them.
- With the Minotaurs you want to line up with them (slightly with a bit more distance) but face the opposite direction and hit the RT (special attack button). The initial front kick wont hit but the magic happens when the dwarf's feet hit on the opposite side. For some reason they are not as aggressive when you are not facing them and they will walk towards you and get hit by the second kick. Once you get the rhythm down it is fairly simple to master.
- There is also a pattern with the big headless enemy. All you have to do is a quick run attack towards them (almost all of the time they will dodge it) then line up, face the opposite direction and then use the 'special attack'. Their attacks have huge hit boxes, so you really can't just walk up and attack them even with the 'special attack'. So you can use the running attack to your advantage and get cut the distance them. They are just as likely to get hit by that second hit from your 'special attack'. If their are two of them just charge attack the other after you knock the first one down then vice versa.
I was a little frustrated on my first few runs but after figuring this technique out it was all easy peezy. I just made sure to save after every round if I was happy with the previous round.
Good luck!

THE DUEL is basically a survival mode. You will fight 15 rounds of increasingly difficult opponents. You do not have any magic in this mode so Gillius (the dwarf) is the best choice as he is the strongest. Fortunately you can use the save-state feature, saving after every round that you don't take damage, even after every successful hit if you like. Your skill level will determine how often you have to re-load, but this feature makes this achievement a walk in the park. The following video gives tips on each round:
