How to unlock the Syndicate Crusher achievement in Sega Vintage Collection: Streets of Rage - Definitive Guide

This achievement is awarded for completing Streets of Rage 1, 2 and 3 on any difficulty as any character (Apart from Streets of Rage 3, the only way you can finish this game completely on easy is to select the Japanese version as the EU/US version on easy is cut short and requires Normal mode to finish completely).

Achievements are only awarded in local mode. If done on easy you should have no problems with any of the games using any character but for the smoothest run I'd suggest Axel in each game. He's the most all round character and his Grand upper/Bare Knuckle move in 2 and 3 makes him quite formidable. You use this move my tapping forward and the punch button at the same time. As for the first game, keep your special (A button move to call for reinforcements) for the bosses of each stage.

Another little tip is a reminder that you can save this game at any point, so if you reach a dangerous section of the game, simply save your state and if you feel you could have done it better reload your save.

***Update 01/07/2018***

Per Allgorhythm's comment RE forcing a save can help some players pop the achievement.

"Press the back button when the credits are rolling to force a system save."

***Update 08/05/2016***

People are reporting success regardless of difficulty/region

OneSeventyOut says:
I played Streets of Rage and Streets of Rage 2 on Europe/Easy and Streets of Rage 3 on Japan/Easy and it unlocked for me :)

As of today, 05/05/16, I can confirm that you can complete the US version SoR1 and SoR2 on easy and the JP version of SoR3 on easy and get the achievement, I just got it this way.

***Update***

For those who want the easy answer to this achievement and finishing all 3 games, you can just use the level select cheats.

Level Select - SoR1 (thanks to RuukuSukotto for adding this in comments)

At the title screen (The screen with 1 player, 2 player etc...), move the cursor to OPTIONS but don't select it. Hold A + B + C + RIGHT on Controller Two and press START on Controller One. Now enter the OPTIONS screen and look for two new options, "Players" and "Level Select".

Level Select - SoR 2

To do this you will need to have two controllers. Make sure you're on the screen that says 1 player, 2 players, Duel and Options. On the second controller move the cursor arrow down to Options then hold buttons A and B and press start. On the first player controller, you should be on the Options screen with an extra option. That's the option where you can select your stage.

Level Select - SoR 3

At the menu screen highlight Battle with the cursor. Hold Up and B and you will now be on the Options selection, press the Start button while still holding Up and B and you should hear a chime indicating the cheat worked. At the bottom of the options screen you'll see Round Select. Select your round, exit options and select one player and your character and you will begin on the level you selected.

(These are the Sega MegaDrive/Genesis cheats so by default on Xbox A, B and C will be X, A and B respectively so it depends on your controller configuration.)

***Important Region Update***

There are now people reporting that the region does not in fact impact on this achievement popping. In my personal experience and in the case of friends who have finished it this was not the case. There are two possibilities, either this has changes since I have unlocked these achievements last, or the achievement itself is just buggy and very inconsistent.

I would personally recommend you clearing them all on the same region setting but if you don't want to then you can try on different settings. Just please read the other region/difficulty information above in terms of the third game missing levels on certain difficulties with certain regions.

***Old Region Update***

You must finish all 3 games with the same region settings. You can't finish 1 on Japanese and the other 2 on US. Probably the reason so many people weren't getting this. :)

You can just do the 2nd pad/options cheat and select the last level for each game, no need to beat the whole thing every time.

Not really a fan of cheating, especially when the games (except the third one) are great fun to play). But I'll add it to the guide anyway.

I haven't actually tried it on any of them, but the guide does say the screen with duel on it and that's not in SoR1. If anyone can confirm I'll add it to the guide.

Have a look at the other guide from "A Hair's Breadth" on how to get the level select to work in SoR3. Your guide was good untill you updated the level select part so you should look into that.

It's also worth mentioning that you can SAVE your game at any time via the BACK button. This brings a modern twist to classic gameplay-- save before you start each level! If you have a bad run or hit a streak of bad luck, re-load and continue from that point. Better than re-starting an entire game if you lose all your lives on the final stage.

Here's the real level select for Streets of Rage 1, just thought I'd mention so you can add it to you solution :)

Great tip for those, the one who fly-kicks as they jump around, try to be behind her as she lands and run into her as she lands and you will be able to german suplex her, rinse and repeat until she dies, ignoring the other one until then. Once the first one is down the second one will start to fly kick so you can do the same, it's just slightly more tricky since she can turn her fly-kick in mid air so you have to be quick. Alternatively you can be near enough to them when they land to throw them a quick punch in mid-air but it will do so little damage it's a bit of a time waster.

My best trick (at least on Easy) against Mona & Lisa (both times) in SoR1, is to get them both on the same side, turn your back on them, and use the rear attack (attack+jump), if you time it right, you'll counter their jump kicks easily. It is slightly time-consuming, but the rear attack has good damage if I'm not mistaken...

Blaze wasn't fast enough for me to grab them anyway, so I tried this before entering Mr.X's penthouse, and surprisingly it worked quite well, so I guess you can abuse this also on Round 5, just remember if you have 2 police calls as well this should make the fight a breeze).

Blaze was the character I found easiest to grab them with, she is the fastest after all so she can get int to grab them before they have time to react.

I got a question though, do you need to save after the credits when the game returns to the title screen ?
I beat the first two games without cheating, then went straight to round 6 on the JP ROM of BK3 with Zan and beat Neo.X, but nothing unlocked after I got to the last credits sequence.
Does this mean I have to do a full run of BK3 as well ?

@Cyclobomber, which rom version where you using? Japanese or US/EU? If you were on the US one you can only complete it on normal and on the Japanese one you can do it all on easy. The achievement should pop the second you beat the last boss in SoR3 (That's when it popped for me). I didn't cheat so I don't know when it should pop when you do but I assume the same point since nobody who has cheated has posted any problems.

I put all 3 games on JP version, but since I reloaded states several times (always disturbed so I had to do BK3 on 4 sittings), maybe the game didn't like it because it often lost the settings on BK3 and told me it had to switch between US and JP version if I wanted to load my state.
I knew about the region changes indeed, but I guess since the game forgot some of my settings it means I might have to redo a full run of BK3 and checking before launching it that it is indeed in JP, I guess the version switch while loading the state may have shot the progress down... Strange...

Some people have the problem that one of their completions for whatever reason doesn't count when they use the cheats, usually refinishing all 3 will reveal it was one they were convinced they had done. On the note of streets of rage 3, if it was the Japanese version any mode should have worked, if it was the EU/US one it has to be on normal or higher. I completed all 3 games with no cheats and it popped for me with no problems, so maybe the cheats can hinder the counter sometimes.

To anyone having trouble with the ladies in SoR1, bring a PIPE with you. Save after every group of enemies and do not drop the pipe at all (get hit, change weapons...). The pipe hits the ladies as they approach BEFORE they jump. You can also walk a few stepsaway and then come back and swing. It hits 90% of the time and you can (sort of) juggle them across the screen. It is just a matter of time before you hit them enough to finish them off if you keep saving at the right moments and be patient. It beats the alternative,

i cant get the level select to work in SoR2 is that right, press A+B+start while the cursor is on options with player 2 controller? i hold a+B and it dings and goes to the options before i press start and the options show level, players, bgm, se, voice.

Fairly sure the level is the level select, you scroll down to options as player to, hold A and B and press start, you'll then be in options with an extra option for picking your level.

Okay so, aside from the obvious complaint that these codes are clearly for the Genesis controller and not the 360 one (what is 'C' exactly?) I have tried every possible combination of the buttons to get the level select code to work in SoR1 and NONE of them work... so this is getting a thumbs down from me.

Oh and that 'Level' is DIFFICULTY level, hence why the options are Easy, Normal, Hard, Hardest

By CndnViking on 24 Nov 2012 06:23
Well most others seem to be able to get it working ok. And I've tried and tested these myself when I wrote the guide and they all work fine. I haven't played them since full clearing the achievements hence why I was unclear on the options section, A, B and C are whatever you assign them as. On terms of streets of rage 2, A was your special, B was punch and C was jump. SO I assign my pad as X for Special, A for Punch and C for jump since that's how the Sega pad is laid out on terms of button order from left to right. So X = A, A = B and B = C. But that's just my settings. The codes work, you just aren't doing them right.

In SoR 1, if you're playing the Japanese version pick the bottom option when you get to final part (the top one sends you back to round 6). I don't read Japanese and found that out the hard way! laugh

What people seem to be missing is the fact that A B and C are referring to the megadrive controls, what you have them assigned to on your Xbox pad is up to you. I have tried this method again and again on my game and it works every time.

For anyone fretting about completing 3 on Normal, there's a way around that whole cut-off situation:Using Level Select, you can just skip to Stage 6 anyway. You'd have to go through it and Stage 7, but hey--at least you'll have the comfort of playing on Easy anyway.

The cheat for sor1 doesn't work. If the 2nd controller is working, the A button selects options. If it's not, it doesn't do anything. And why would the guide list the Genesis pad controller buttons. That makes no sense because it's really confusing.

By capicawl on 04 Sep 2014 17:05
I've tried and tested every cheat above and all are working. The reason I gave the Megadrive/Genesis buttons is because you can assign them to any button so I don't know what each and every person will assign A, B, C etc to.

I would assume most pple have the common sense to check what these buttons are assigned to beefore attempting the cheats?

I appreciate they're not the simplest cheats to implement but if done correctly they all work.

Negative because this guide is wrong. The achievement is buggy but has nothing to do with playing the Japanese rom. It can bug out on you forcing you to replay games until you find the one that bugged if you *ONLY* played the USA rom. Or you could play both the USA roms for 1 and 2 and play the Japanese ROM third and still get it.

All you are doing is making this game harder for people who choose to believe your guide.

@Best In Philly: I've tried and tested this on multiple accounts, and most commenters on here concur. I can only test an achievement as extensively as any one person can, and go by what other TA members say.

If you feel your experience was different there isn't much I can do about it as it seems like the exception rather than the rule, but if you see fit to neg a solution based on what could be an isolated incident or indeed you could just be wrong, go ahead if it makes you feel better.
0
0
By AceCardJones on 21 Jan 2015 21:47
Not an isolated incident. I was told by two of my friends that they did it on Japan.

I did the final game on Japan and it popped.

A friend of mine did all three on USA rom and it glitches.

At the very least your best argument is that you have a slightly higher chance of it glitching if you do the final game on the Japanese rom.

This is not an isolated incident at all.

By DaOverUnder on 21 Jan 2015 21:55
I'm not getting into a full on debate here as it just dilutes the comments and makes them useless for everyone else, I have popped this achievement playing all 3 games on US and Japanese seperately.

If you play on US you have to complete the third on normal as on easy the game ends early and you don't finish all the stages.

This is the basis I built the guide around as it's my own personal experience mixed with feedback from friends and fellow TA members. I have no experience with the problem you have mentioned and you are also the first person to experience it to my knowledge.

If you feel your negative vote stands so be it, but it would have been preferable to withold your vote and mention here in the comments about your issue and maybe I could rectify it by adding a footnote to the guide?

You may not feel it is an isolated incident but statistically for the voters here and my own experience, it could be.
0
0
By AceCardJones on 21 Jan 2015 22:02
I don't know what you mean by statistically though? If everyone who follows your guide gets it to pop. Then yes, playing on USA is statistically proven to work. That's not what we are arguing. We are arguing that it works using a mixture of roms.

Both the TA walkthrough and X360A.org roadmap say to play this game on Japan. But you have the only guide on the internet that says not to.

I asked the people in my party whether they did it on Japan or USA and they both said that they did it on Japan and you didn't know what you are talking about.

I then beat it on Japan and had the same situation.

The only thing I can think of is I continued from level 6 like you have to do on the USA rom.

I'm not sure if you can level select the final level on the Japan ROM, but not on the USA rom.

But so even that might not be the problem.

By DaOverUnder on 21 Jan 2015 22:31
If you have the game set to easy on the USA/EU rom you can't level select the true final stage as the game cuts off early on easy mode in the US/EU version.

The achievement hasn't popped on any of my attempts when playing different region roms. It has only popped by finishing all 3 on a single region, I haven't experienced discrimination of any region, I have personally completed the game on multiple profiles to ensure finishing the 3 games on each region works.

If you play Streets of Rage 3 on easy on the EU/US rom regradless of level select the game is cut short and doesn't count towards the achievement.

My guide does not state not to play the game using the Japanese rom, it merely states if you chose any region, ensure you complete the other 2 games in that same region, all regions count towards this achievement as long as if you set the thrid game to normal difficulty if you chose to play the EU/US rom.

The key is to play all 3 games on the same region and to ensure the third game is set to normal if not playing on Japanese.

By AceCardJones on 22 Jan 2015 16:28
I assure you that is not the case.

I as well as many friends, many people commenting on x360a, two seperaate walkthrough's on x360a and the Trueachievements walkthrough all popped this achievement without any issue playing the first two games on the USA rom and the third game on the Japanese ROM.

You are the *ONLY* person on the internet to try to and state otherwise.

Honestly, I think you are the one that is having the freak occurance.

There's a lot of comments on here so not sure if it's been mentioned but the stage select for SoR1 says press A, B, C and right on the 2nd controller (which is X, A/Y & B respectively on Xbox). However, I couldn't get it to work using A for a while but I pressed X, Y, B and Right on the 2nd controller then start on the 1st controller, it worked great.

Thumbs up. There seems to be some confusion about regions and the like. I played all three games through from start to finish with no cheats and the achievement did not pop. I used the same version - the US version - for all three. I got the good ending in Streets of Rage III. For all three games, I let the credits play out until I got the game's opening animation for a new game.I assumed the game had registered the completions especially since the first two games had me put in my initials.

I did some searching. The XBA roadmap advises pressing the back button when the credits roll to force a system save. I had save files for all three games close to the end. I replayed the end of Streets of Rage I and pressed the back button when the credits rolled. When I did so an icon in the upper right corner appeared indicating a system save. I did the same thing for Streets of Rage II. As soon as I pressed the back button when the credits were rolling, the achievement popped.

I believe this is the source of people's frustration. It certainly was in my case. I recommend you add a comment in bold stating, "Press the back button when the credits are rolling to force a system save."

Thanks and again thanks for the guide. I played this some time ago on a different GamerTag. I didn't have any issues back then and I didn't make any effort to press the back button when the credits played. It seems, though, from the comments that this is a finicky achievement. I think, perhaps, sometimes you get the system save at the end and sometimes you have to force it with the back button.

For what it's worth I just got this doing first and third game in Japan version and second game as europe so I'm not sure the region thing matters.

Voted negatively because although it has good info, it also has incorrect info on what buttons to press for level select etc. I still haven't been able to get SoR 2 to work. What was written doesn't even make logical sense.

Fullnietzsche, look under the setting. For me, I had to hold A and X. Genesis controlls had a C button.

Just an update to say I unlocked this in space year 2019 after having a bit of trouble, playing through each game fully in different difficulty and region combinations. Finally popped immediately after the last boss on SoR3, Japan region, Normal difficulty. Used the level-select cheat liberally on each game too. Feel free to message me if more info needed.

To everyone still having issues with this, I did all 3 games in one sitting on the easiest difficulty and I did SoR 1 and SoR 2 on the NA version and SoR 3 on the JP version. I made a manual save as soon as the credits started and let them roll to the title screen before moving on to the next game. Maybe give that a try if you're afraid of having the achievement glitch out on you, it popped for me as soon as I beat Robot X on Stage 7 of SoR 3, I also did use the level select as well but I was playing on my Xbox One. Doubt which console you're playing on matters but just notating that.

Just wanted to get this collection finished for SoR 4 dropping next week XD

Am I the only one who can't get the level select codes to work with two controllers?

Edit: you have to hit start on controller 2 as if a 2nd player is going to play before attempting. I finally got it after that

There's an extra period in the level select for SoR 2 that makes it confusing. You need to arrow down to Options on controller 2, hold A+B (X+A) on controller 2, then while still holding press Start on *controller 1*. The way it's written it sounds like you are supposed to press start on controller 2 which doesn't work.

I might have found an easy way to beat Neo X in SoR 3 (I had a lot of trouble beating him).

So what I did was, play with two controllers, european version of the game, stage select cheat to be able to start from 6th stage, with the game on Easy and lives maxed out. I chose Zan and controller 2 was Blaze.

Beat Stage 6, save the chief, and when you finally get to Neo X in Stage 7, don't do anything, don't move. Neo X comes to the top of Blaze and is stuck there, as long as you don't move Blaze, Neo X won't budge from this spot, you can then use your special attack or punches with Zan and easily defeat him!

This is unlocked for completing all three games. You can either play through at your own pace or use the level select to go straight to stage 8 or SOR1 and SOR2. On SOR3 you can only jump to stage 7. Once you get to the credits screen on each game, make sure you press  to save to make sure the game registers the fact you have reached the end.
