How to unlock the Demon of Hatred achievement in Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice - GOTY Edition - Definitive Guide
To get to this boss you must first defeat Owl at the top of Ashina Castle, then head to Fountainhead Palace and defeat the Divine Dragon. Once you defeat the Dragon, travel back to Kuro's Room and head out the window next to Emma. Look around and you should see a kite in the sky. Head over to this and grapple to be taken to Ashina Outskirts. Run to the end of the area and interact with the idol at the dead-end to be teleported to the boss arena idol.
Now for the fight itself. As soon as the fight starts, run to the left and right to the edge of the area. There is a small rock alcove on the left side. Stand here and wait for the boss to come over. When he gets reasonably close run to the left and around the building to the wooden tower. The boss will be stuck where you lured him to.
Go around to the side of the tower with the platform that is sticking out. Jump at the corner of the tower and if done correctly you should be able to wall jump up and grab the ledge, then jump and grab the roof and pull yourself up. Now from here you can see the exterior ledge that runs onto the roof of the building. Walk off the edge and just as you fall, jump. You should make it onto the wall. Now climb up to the roof and head to the other side of the building where the boss is chilling. He will try to attack you, and fail, eventually lunging off the cliff to his death. Good fight.
Here's a clip demonstrating climbing the tower, getting to the cheese point, and the boss dying in a dramatic fashion.

In this video guide I will show you how to defeat the Demon of Hatred. Now you won't be able to get to him until you beat the Divine Dragon. Once you do you will have to go back to the start of the game. Only thing is all the travel points are gone and need to be reconnected again. Just follow the normal path all the way back to the start to find an idol. This idol will take you to the demon fighting area.
A few things that I used in the fight are divine confetti, whirlwind slash, phantom kuni, and the malcontent version of the whistle. You will want to save the whistle for the last phase of the fight because you can only use it on him three times before it is useless.
Now I always start the fight with the divine confetti active. I have tried with and without it. There does seem to be a slight damage difference so I went with it. You will be able to get four or five hits right off the bat before he attacks. Now your best bet is to stay close to him as much as possible during the fight.
First Phase: He has quite a bit of moves so it will take some time to learn his patterns. He has a belly flop move which you will see him start to jump. When he does run back a bit to get out of the blast radius. If you end up being too close you can jump to avoid damage. Also grapple to him for some damage.
Another is a simple headbutt he does from time to time. You will notice this one pretty easily. Just deflect it or get behind him for a few extra hits. At times he will even do a multiple headbutt.
He will also charge up his right leg and do a big slam with it. Either deflect it or dodge behind him for some damage.
Another version of the stomping is a swipe, swipe, stomp, swipe, followed by s smaller stomp which won't do damage. Your best bet here is to try and get behind him and wait till he is done for a few hits as well.
He also has a charge attack which will be prompt by a kanji symbol. Simply jump over him to dodge it.
After he does the charge attack he will either fire a blast of fireballs at you or do a charge slam attack with his glowing arm. The charge attack is easy to dodge. Either to the left or the right. Now for the fireballs is not as easy. Right after he charges you will need to chase after him and close the gap fast. Once you are close enough and see him go for the blast, move to the left while running to be safe. Now if you want you can use this time to heal up, but if you do make sure you to try and lure him into firing the fireballs and run back to dodge it. Even then sometimes he will do this twice in a row so be prepared.
Now occasionally he will some smaller swipes at you. Either try to deflect it or dodge it and then attack him.
Another attack he does rarely is a stomp of both legs. Just dodge them and try to attack him.
Second Phase: He doesn't really have many different moves except a couple new ones. He will do both of the attacks after he does his charge attack
He will do basically a flame cone attack when he slams his glowing arm on the ground. To avoid this wait till his arm starts to come down you will need to jump. Ideally you will be running in one direction and time that jump at that time followed by a grapple to close the gap and get a few hits in as well.
Or he will be firing fireballs at you, but this time he will firing them at you one at a time. The best way to dodge these is by running either left or right while slowly going toward him to close the gap. Once he stops you will be able to get some hits on him here.
From time to time he might do a dive attack as well. Just dodge it and attack him.
Third Phase: He will also gain two new moves here as well and still use all the rest of them.
Starting out when you get to the third health bar he will swing his glowing arm in a huge AOE around him so be sure to run far back. You could stay and jump over it but you risk the chance of being knocked into the fire ring.
His other new move is now a double charge attack. Just be sure to jump over both of these when he does. It will always be two charges from now on instead of one.
Now is the time to use the malcontent whistle on this phase to get extra hits on him. I would try and wait to see what he does and see if he does an easy to dodge move to get him down. Then when given an opportunity use the whistle all three times to get him down as much as you can. At this point he should be about dead. If you want you can use the kuni for some extra damage if he is far away. Now all you need to do is get the final hits for the kill and the achievement.

Nice got em! Once you figure out how to dodge all his attacks, he's not actually that bad. I just focused on dodging, I only blocked when he did the feet stomp.
Great guide!

Good guide, just got him in an hour with 11 attack and 19 vitality. Like you say, I stayed under him the whole time and never let up, always attacking or dodging. I think I blocked like 3 attacks the whole fight. The only issue I had was that I could not dodge his perilous charge for nothing. Every single time he used it, I got hit. Just had to keep my health high enough that it wasn't a one-hit KO.
