How to unlock the Immortal Severance achievement in Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice - GOTY Edition - Definitive Guide

This is the default ending that you can get by getting to Owl on top of Ashina Castle and choosing to 'Break the Iron Code, stay loyal to Kuro'. Defeat Owl, then speak to Kuro and you will be told to go to Fountainhead Palace.

Go to the cave at the back of the Corrupted Monk's boss arena in Ashina Depths and interact with the tent at the back to be taken to Fountainhead Palace. Make your way through the area and defeat the Divine Dragon at the end. Then head back to Kuro's Room and a second modified Ashina Castle, then backtrack to the initial Ashina Castle idol. From the idol, walk through the main gate and into the building on the left. Drop down the hole in the building and make your way to the Ashina Reservoir, fight a Seven Spears miniboss, then enter the secret passage to fight the final boss.

Defeat him, then give Kuro only the Dragon's Tears to get this ending.

There is also a method to get this and the other two ending achievements without having to play through the game three times. Once you defeat Sword Saint, save and quit back to the dash and then reenter the game again. Choose to give Kuro the items for the ending you need, then once the achievement pops (when the credits start), hit Guide, press cn_start on Sekiro, choose Manage Game & Add-Ons, scroll down to Saved Data, and choose your saved data, then Delete from Console. Repeat until your data is gone. Now restart the game and you will be able to choose again. Repeat for the other ending to get all three.

I don't mean to come off as a douche here lol but seeing people in general struggling to do the save exploit or somehow end up in "NG+" really is baffling to me when the whole process is so simple. Like, how could you possible screw it up?
Think of it like this:
On Xbox, your saves are both local and on the cloud. Your games do not load cloud saves, the cloud save is saved onto your Xbox and the game then loads the local save. The cloud save always puts in work to be overwritten by the local save, and also overwrite the local save if it sees that there is a mismatch.
So, if you beat Isshin and saved at the idol just before Kuro, ask yourself this very simple question:
With your Cloud Save now being at the post isshin idol, how do I go about unlocking an ending achievement and ensure my cloud save, which is usually overwritten by the local save, isn't overwritten?
The answer is extremely simple: Cutoff your internet connection. Do not give the console an opportunity to overwrite the cloud save with the newer local save.
With your post isshin idol save, remove your internet connection (bonus: also go offline on your xbox's network settings), do the deed (ideally, watch the credits for 30 seconds), quit the game, delete the local save through Manage Games and Add-ons, plug your internet back in, relaunch the game to resync your post isshin idol save to the console, repeat until you get all endings.
I had zero issues save scumming using this method, and it makes sense. Xbox always tries to sync saves to the cloud. Simply cut off that pipe to make the exploit accessible.

The same trick would work for the all skills achievement. Cut off your internet - spend all you points, get the achievement, quit the game, delete the save, plug internet back in, resync old save. Now enjoy spending all your skill points in extra attack power.

NOTE: Keep in mind, when you earn an achievement offline, it will not pop until you are back online.

I believe that the latest update has just patched this escape and quit method. My buddy followed the end of the guide and it didn’t work. If I can get it to work I’ll update the soloution

Still works, but now I used WIRED network - previously tried wireless and not worked. When killed Isshin rest at the idol! After the achievement popped unplugged the cable immediately. All other as mentioned above in the solution!

Escaping still works, as for today (09-06-2020). I tried disconnecting wired network during game, before choosing an option, but cheevo didn't pop. So I tried Renattooo's method, to disconnect as soon as achievement pops. After reconnecting and starting Sekiro, the first cheevo popped :)

Yeah I can't get all 3 endings in one go, unfortunately. I need to ng+ for a few other achievements anyway. Anyone like me, who listened to the exploit, quitting after achievement popped and deleting saved data, don't worry. Completionists need to ng+ anyway. Heard the game has a ton of merit second time around, and feels way easier. Good luck, fellow Shinobi.

To add to my latest comment made on one of the other ending chievo guides, this should be marked as MISSABLE, as I thought there were only 3 endings as there were only 3 missable ending chievo's listed as missable. You can miss this one too there, vSully and friends. I must also point out lack of including the fact there are 4 endings in each chievo guide. Your poor wording(s) led me to believe otherwise. "The other 2 endings" does not mean there are 4, but instead implies there are only 3. I got ''immortal severence'', and ''purification'' mixed up as endings, as only shura, purification, and homecoming are the only 3 outta 4 endings marked as missable

I just tried the save manipulation and when I reloaded the game, I was back at the dilapidated temple. I travelled to The Sword Saint Isshin area, and there's no one there. I still have the branch, flower, divine dragon's tears, frozen tears.... now what? Have I completely cocked it up?

Question from 2022 on Series X: does it still work? I know what must be done with the save but one thing make me feel upset before trying this. On Series X when you press the guide touch, the QUICK RESUME is automatic. So when you delete your save, the game is not closed by the console if you don't do it manually... just saved in the quick resume menu. So when you want to come back in the game after save delete, WHAT HAPPEN??? Did someone try on SERIES X??? Only true response please, i prefer play the game again on NG+ instead of losing my save. Thanks.

Attempted Xbone 720p30fps method - did not work. No achievement popped, and I am stuck after the choice to go to NG+. I am on the Series S.

This may have worked on the One, but it basically forced me into NG+ without giving me any achievement ending.

Leave it to people on TrueAchievements to find a way to cheat in a virtual game instead of just playing through it...

Anyone know if the multiple ending hack still works as of 2024?

@Kid Kime I just attempted it on my series X following the walkthroughs steps. Pretty much forced me into the first ending I chose and I couldn't pick anything else. The walkthrough may have worked for the Xb1 version but series x/s it doesn't work properly. You need multiple playthroughs for the other achievements anyway. Maybe I'll just buy the dragon mask and grind attack power for days....

Tested the endings exploit today (26.04.19) on wireless network and it works like a charm. Thank you for this

One clarification on the method--when you delete the saved game from the console, it closes Sekiro for you. Don't quit Sekiro from the dashboard manually before you delete the saved game.
