How to unlock the The horror. The horror. I embrace it. achievement in Shadow Man Remastered - Definitive Guide

In order to unlock the achievement 'The Horror, The Horror, I Embrace It' you have to finish Shadow Man Remastered on The Horror.

These are the characteristics of this new difficulty setting:
- More enemies and deadly obstacles have been added in all levels. Most deadly obstacles you already know are faster, too
- Shadow man receives twice the damage
- The Shadow gun deals less damage and no longer leaves Lifeforce drops after killing enemies. This shall incentivice you to use your voodoo weapons more often
- When you reach the Shadow Level 5 (23 Dark Souls) Deadside enemies get more HP and some of them gain further resistance to the Shadow Gun
- Almost all enemies now have at least one extra attack or action. Those attacks are exclusive to "The Horror".
- Enemies no longer recoil, and are stronger, faster, better. Oh, they are faster alright and they are super aggressive. Sometimes they come over from other rooms to hunt you down but this can be used to your advantage
- Violator ammo is capped at 250 now and you have to get ammo upgrades from the playrooms in order to increase to 500 and then to 999. It isnt enough anymore to just get the second violator

How to unlock New Game+:
Beat the game on The Horror and then input the following code in the main menu:
Down-Down-Up-Up-Right-Left-Right-Left-WeaponWheel-Inventory

Make sure to use the D-Pad for directions.

If you finish The Horror without dying and with all collectibles, this code will be shown at the end of the credits (do not skip!) but you only have to at least finish The Horror in order to use it since the inventory and abilities that will be taken over are the ones from the completed Horror savegame.

These are the best ten tips I can give you

1) DERUST ON NORMAL DIFFICULTY
Its been a while since the last update for Shadow Man Remastered released so I can imagine its been a while since the last time you played the game. Therefore I recommend replaying the game on normal difficulty first to get a feel for everything again. Since the game isnt completely linear, you can use your playthrough on normal to route your horror run. Of course you can jump into "The Horror" right away but this way, it will be way less stressful.

2) PLAY DEFENSIVE
On Normal difficulty you can pretty much rush through the entire game. Rush all of the enemies down and stay agressive but this doesnt work that well on The Horror since the enemies are much faster and you go down easier so stay patient, play defensive. try to lame out all enemies as much as you can. That means: take cover, shoot the enemy and take cover again if necessary. It might take longer to kill your enemies but in the end it might just be faster to this way. What good does it do when you die and you have to run all the way back to the enemies.

3) DONT TRY TO KILL EVERYTHING
In order to finish the game on "The Horror" you only need 95 souls and all five retractors. That already means that you dont have to take down every Trueform you encounter, unless you want to collect the Light Soul. But the Seraphs that guard the Retractors also dont have to be killed. The Seraph Queen in the experimentation rooms is the exception. she is one of a few bosses or boss-like monsters that have to be killed in order to progress. So more often than not, it might be smarter to get an item and get the hell out of a room or just let yourself be killed in order to conserve ammo and maybe to save time if you need to get close to the teddy bear warp point. Because remember: if you use the teddy bear to warp to the same area, all enemies will be respawned, if you just die, they wont.

4) COLLECT CADEAUX
Everytime you die, you will resurrect with 5 health. During the early beta phase it was actually 3 but due to the fact you receive twice the damage, you want to increase your HP as much as possible. So make sure to collect as many Cadeaux as you can since you get one extra Health Point for every 100 Cadeaux you offer in the temple of life. Use your playthrough on normal to memorize where the cadeaux are located.

5) MOVEMENT IS KEY
As I arlready mentioned, the enemies are much faster on this new difficulty setting. Therefore it will be harder to avoid taking damage but you got the tools you need. Make sure to use all of your options to evade enemy attacks such as jumping, rolling and strafing to the left and right. Its really important that you keep moving when fighting enemies on the horror.

6) CHARGE YOUR SHADOW GUN AT ALL TIMES
As you know, the game is dark as hell and since more enemies are present in the horror and sometimes at places where you can slam your controller to the wall, make sure to charge your shadow gun at all times so you can deliver one strong blow as soon as you encounter an enemy.

7) USE. YOUR. VOODOO WEAPONS
This update included a new voodoo weapon which is located in the experimentation rooms. This will be your best friend in the early game and will make the game much easier. Do not be afraid to use your voodoo weapons and get the tete de morde as soon as you possibly can.

8) RESTOCK ON AMMO
Shadow Man Remastered has some great points where you can get ammo for your lifeside weapons and of course the Violators. I personally can recommend the teddy bear warppoint at Gardelle prison where you fight Batrachian and the one in the experimentation rooms. But do not forget, warping basically revives all enemies so definitely think about it before you warp recklessly.

9) ROUTE YOUR GAME
As I suggested earlier, you could use your playthrough on normal to route your game. As you know, the more souls you get, the stronger your shadow gun is and its also very likely that you have a lot of HP later on. So what I did was to avoid the seraph queen in the experimentation rooms until I had to get the retractor. That way, I fought her with my Violator and way more health. I also suggest to pick a certain order with the five. Batracian is probably the easiest of the five and since you need the point for the ammo anyway, I suggest dealing with him first. All of the members of the five were buffed immensely. Everyone, maybe except Batracian and Avery Marx, has something special. Pike for example finally uses a helicopter which assists him and when you fight with Jack the ripper, the corridors get exceptionally dark. So get rid of Batrachian and first and take on the others when you got stronger due to Dark Souls and Cadeaux. I suggest to take on Pike next since you will have all the machine guns from liveside that were buffed in the latest update. They deal a ton of damage now. But do not forget to get Jacks Journal first to shut down the engines after you beat the five.

10) STAY IN ONE LEVEL AS MUCH AS NECESSARY
This is my last tip. Since warping or leaving an area completely respawns all the enemies, I suggest to stay in one level until you get all the souls, cadeaux and items you need. Maybe you need only one soul in the Temple of Fire to get to the next shadow level and you get all excited and warp somewhere else in order to progress but before you warped you could have gotten a gad upgrade or a few more souls. Now you have to fight all of the enemies again in order to get those things. Get your stuff done first and then warp somewhere else.
