How to unlock the For the Orphans achievement in Shadowrun Returns - Definitive Guide
This can be done after recruiting Paco while you're searching for Coyote (after your first visit to the Seamstress Union).
Before leaving the Union, make sure you have at least ¥300 (NuYen). Before entering the Union, Jake Armitage should have given you ¥1,000. If you spend all your money on guns, armor, and drugs, you may be able to sell some of your gear to one of the merchants in the union (there's an arms dealer in the back right of the union). There's also two grenades in Coyotes safe (the code is found on the last page of her diary. Finding the code will show you where the safe is, but it's immediately to the left of her computer).
Once you have Paco, continue along the road until you reach a crime scene. A Lone Star officer will be blocking you, but Dresden is here and he'll interrupt the cop and let you in. Speak with Dresden and progress through the dialogue options. Then, the right of Dresden will be a human. This is Officer Aguirre.
Exhaust all dialogue options with him and then thank him for his time. He'll stop you from leaving and ask if you would like to "make a donation to the lonely orphans fund." This is a thinly veiled ask for a bribe – of ¥300 – in exchange for him phoning you if/when he finds information on the Ripper.
Pay him the NuYen and the achievement will pop.

I was able to do lower it 200, thankfully. Because I missed out on the $1000 you speak of =(

Interesting that you didn't get the 1k! You're supposed to get it from Jake when he bails on you at the murder scene just outside the Union 🤔
I've never not gotten it, but also I could just be picking the same "path"/options with every playthrough.
Glad you were at least able to lower the price!
