How to unlock the Got Gud achievement in Shadows: Awakening - Definitive Guide

This is how I was able to get the achievement. I don’t know if will work for everyone, but this worked for me.

First, I deleted the game and installed it while offline to avoid installing the patch (I was also trying to do old school mode).

Second, I played the entire game offline, including beating the final boss.

When I went online and updated the game, I didn’t either of the achievements. At that point I decided to beat the game again while online and after doing that I unlocked both old school and got gud!!

Edit: it’s worth mentioning that you should turn off automatic updates. That way you can switch online/offline without the game getting the 10.8gb update.

I can confirm playing the Game offline with the non patched Version unlocks the achievement. But for me it was a little bit diffrerent, i killed the boss, watched the credits and quit the game. While downloading the Update the achievements popped up.

Brilliant. A++

The character achievement popped on 75% of downloading the updates and Got Gud and Oldschool popped on 98%.

I don't understand what's the point of playing offline first? No description of that. Are you resetting if there is a puppet death?

Huh? The achievement is broken... you can not get it or old school any other way besides playing offline without any updates.

I had 4 achievements left and they all unlocked as the update downloaded. They didn't all unlock immediately though...3 different times during the download O_o

How do you get this achievement if you have to kill one of your puppets in the main story. The quest I am talking about is in chapter 3 called Test of Anger which you have to die to proceed

So a physical copy is necessary for this?
Such crap. I'm playing this digitally because it's Free With Gold.
I almost might stop playing this game. It's really not like Diablo.

Unless Kalypso has decided to fix the game in the 2 years since I finished it, then yes, you can’t get Old School Or this achievement without a disc version of the game.

I haven't purchased a physical copy of a game in years and obviously, after 2 years, they'll never fix this achievement and the old school one. So no completion for me...

Wish I knew this had unobtainable’s I would not have paid for a game made by lazy programmers who refuse to fix there achievements.

I don’t know if beating the game again a second time was actually necessary or if it was just a coincidence and the timing of the delay. Because for me, the patch took like 10 minutes to download and none of the achievements popped. I loaded into my game figuring that might help, still nothing. I dashboarded, closed the game, launched it again and continued my save and still nothing. So I figured maybe I would have to do what you did and fought the final boss a second time. In the middle of the battle, both of the v1.0 achievements popped. So I think it was just a time delay more so than a trigger for doing anything specific within the game.

@trueachievements.com/gamer/vSully; The achievements are tied to your profile not the game. There may be a lag but X1 achievements earned offline (for any game) pop when the local profile synchs with the global XBox Live profile. There is no need to launch the game or install updates.

The synching process is very temperamental. It may be quick or slow. Generally, the more stuff you have going on the slower it will take. I suspect your updating & other activity slowed down the synch. It’s fastest to just go online & do nothing but wait until the synch completes & the achievements earned offline pop.

How long would a playthrough for these final Old School achievements take? I'm trying to decide if it's worth it to buy a physical copy.

I am playing Vikings: Wolves of Midgard right now and it is definitely similar to Diablo. I think I actually like it better. Because you actually have a base attack in this game. I understand in a way you do in Diablo as well but for the most part you never use your equipped weapon to attack which is a little strange for me personally. I was looking at this game because it is the same developer and may avoid it just because of this mess.

You're referencing Diablo 3? Diablo 2 is FAR superior, like it's not even a fair comparison.

This is Shadows: Awakening. Not Diablo 1, 2 or 3. If you're interested in Diablo.........play Diablo. Or...OR, play this and other games for it is, they are. Yeah?
Personally, I had this bright idea that I would start online and start on Old School and Extreme. Thinking I would wait till the end then go offline, delete the game and reload it without the patch and continue on. However, I suspect that the game save will have the patch software embedded within it. So, I like the game well enough that I'm turning the difficulty down and I'll play it for what it is and this will be a non-complete game for me. Oh well. It's not like I don't have others that are not 100% either. I'll enjoy this for what it is.

You play offline without the patches because the current patch breaks something.

From what I can gather "Dracon Tamer" was originally unobtainable (check the solution.). They updated the game to fix it. However, that update breaks this achievement and the old school achievement. This means the only way to get those two achievements is to play the disc version offline, which has the original version of the game. If you play it offline you won't download the current patch, which means you can get those 2 achievements.

It won’t count against you. Dying in the trials is part of the story and is unavoidable.

@Groggs if you are talking about the level where you have to submit yourself to the 3 tests, you have to die to this. It will not void your achievement. However, dying anywhere else in the game will Void this.

Thanks @KbN and belated congrats for the #1. Good work.

I'll add that if you're playing this on next-gen consoles there'll be an error pop up following the offline installation. You cannot launch the game as is.

Here's the fix, step by step:

- Connect back to XBL ("Go Online")
- Ensure auto-updates are disabled
- Launch the game
- Decline the game update when that prompt comes up
*You'll get kicked back to home screen*
- Disconnect from XBL ("Go Offline")
- Shadows will now launch properly; enjoy the v1.0

@Trombonafide; The game is an RPG & takes about 80 hours to complete. If you save your hard playthrough to the end to get this achievement, it will take about 15 hours. But I don’t recommend that. I recommend playing offline first to get this & over 30 other achievements.

If you do your hard run first, offline, to get this achievement & Oldschool - the 2 that require the original disk version - & then go online to update & play the name normally, your system save file is preserved. If you play online first, you have to delete all your saves including valuable stuff in the system save file. I give further details here: Shadows: Awakening Walkthrough Discussion

I, personally, liked the game. I’d played the first 2 (PC only) games in the series & liked the real/shadow world mechanics. I recommend it. If you feel you’ll like the game, it’s definitely worth it to get the physical disc.

VERY IMPORTANT

As of now, 23/04/2020, this trophy is still glitched.

I finished this game in Extreme and at the end....nothing.

If you want to do this, do it in the base 1.00 version of the game, no updates.

P.S One mission requires you to kill one puppet for you to proceed.
Do not worry, it does not impact the trophy.

Set the level to Heavy (difficult) and move on. The ideal combination is a warrior at the beginning - give him adrenaline skills and some other skills to reduce physical resistance... it only shoots like that. The demon himself must have an arrow to freeze. The rest of the mercenaries are optional.

And one more thing: there is a test of anger. There you need to sacrifice Zaar and under no circumstances resurrect him on the altar later! I did this unknowingly and did not receive the achievement despite the fact that I never died anywhere. Don’t repeat my mistakes.

It’s better to go straight to the last difficulty level to get two achievements and not suffer 2 times later like I did. The main thing is to save often and select the ideal team for yourself.

And if one of your servants died, reload the save.
Try to save as often as possible, plus there are still crashes in the game.

According to the difficulty sections in the game, there is no Difficult (Hard), there are “High” and “Extreme”; for the trophy you need to complete the game on one of these difficulty modes without losing a single minion during the game. At the moment, this trophy does not work in version 1.08! I wrote to the support service - if this information is useful, this is what they answered...

The only known workaround is to finish the game, uninstall it and reinstall it without any fixes, and load the saved game.
