How to unlock the The perfect tan! achievement in Shantae: Half-Genie Hero - Definitive Guide

PER SOME NEW COMMENTS I DID SOME ADDITIONAL RESEARCH. THIS GAME RECEIVED A “SUMMER SUPRISE” update that was not present at the time of the solution. It released in late 2018. I cant find definitive notes on the patch but its possible the times were nerfed on this edition as well. At the time these times were tested thoroughly, but if you struggle to make these outlined see the comments for a plan B.

As per usual with Shantae games there are four unique win screens. You'll get one just for beating the game. You don't have to get all four in one playthrough. They carry over between save files as well. The four win screens are:

1. Game Complete (Just Beat the Game).

2. 100 % (Collect all Dream Squids) [3 per level])

3. 100 % FASTEST TIME (aka Speed Run) The cut off for this is 1 Hour 5 Minutes. I did it in 47:29 without a guide on my first run. I recommend learning where the Dream Squids are in each level, not saving, then reload and replaying it and doing it flawlessly. Then save. Any time you fail make sure to go to main menu to load and not continue. Continue will add your fail time onto your total.

4. FASTEST TIME (aka Speed Run, no Dream Squids needed) The cut off for this is 50 minutes. I did a 100% run in 47:29 without a guide on my first playthrough. I did probably have a few sections I could do a little faster, but this one has the most "wiggle" room than other modes.

TIPS:

Included in these spoiler tags are my 100% run of 47:29 breakdowns. So you can see if you're ahead or behind my 47:29 pace. You'll have an extra 2 Minutes 31 Seconds off my pace in order to do all 4 win screens in one run. After each time you save, you can back out to main menu and look at your save file to see your current run time rounded to nearest minute.

-For bosses in general you're going to want to make sure you have the 2nd or 3rd power up. This gives you a extra damage with your hair whip.

-Use the beach balls to take down the Mermaid in seconds. Combination of Beach Balls and Hair Whip for Ammo Baron. Snail, and Worm shouldn't give you any problems. Dual Barons was the hardest in my opinion. Save the beach balls for the end and try to get both their health is down at the same time. If you kill one the other immediately goes into rampage mode so ideally you'll want the 2nd one low health so you can spam beach balls to finish him off.

Risky boots shouldn't be too bad. She doesn't damage Shantae very much so I just chased her and spammed Hair Whip mostly. I would get hit a lot but she does minimal damage. 2nd stage of power up or 3rd can't hurt. The only bosses the power up won't matter are Stages 1 & 3.

-Skillful use of the Bubble will be the key to skipping over hard enemies and saving loads of time. Pressing cn_Y will activate the bubble. You can then pop this bubble early by pressing cn_A. While falling often times you will have enough time to use another bubble.

-Also when going for speed runs skip all dialogue as fast as possible by mashing the cn_A. According to good Super man some scenes allow you to skip a series of dialogue with cn_start, so try that first and then if it doesn't skip mash that cn_A!!

-If you still struggle for 50 minutes time, I recommend you do a 100% playthrough Speed Run followed by a Speed Run where you skip the Dream Squids. Make sure to start a new save file as continuing a previous save file from the base game or first DLC will add to your total time.

Still doing my run but I just got past the Dual Barrons (hate that boss) and wanna share what finally worked for me:

So trying to kill 'em both equally really wasn't working out. I couldn't keep track of how much I'd done to each one or consistently split the damage, and when Squid Fuck keeps bouncing around and making shockwaves there's just WAY too much going on all at once. By the end I'm out of juice and die easily regardless of who's left.

What I ended up doing was focussing ENTIRELY on the squid with just my hair whip. Got a lot of hits in during the start when the wizard was carrying him around and managed to finish him before he started bouncing around. That left the wizard at full health and me with full magic. Even in beserk mode his green attacks were easy to avoid without having to worry about constant shockwaves, so I just stayed away from him and spammed beach balls. Managed to kill him without taking a hit.

I got 00:53:10 And got the fastest time, i have no idea how. Just thought i mention that.

Also i wanna point out that My last save was clocked at 47 minutes, but i beat the game from that save. (Section before the last save point that goes into risky boots) so maybe thats the trick.

If you save after the cut off time maybe that voids it. Idk just had theory

Now I'm curious as to what the cutoff time is. I was stressing about getting under 50 minutes but got the achievement anyway with 51. I'm thinking it's 1:00:00.

When you say "received nerfs", does that mean the cutoff times are lower or higher than they were?

@Xynvincible - By nerfed I just meant that the cutoff times might have been increased which would make the achievements easier. we did testing of the cutoff times when it came out to reflect in solution but comments are all indicating around a 55 min to 1 hour cutoff for fastest time.

I did 49:50 in my first run, got all 4 win screens, and the achievement didn't pop. I had to do fast run (any percent) using another save to unlock the achievement.

MISSABLE

This is one of the three most difficult trophies in this DLC set. Just like in the other modes of Shantae Half-Genie Hero, you must beat the DLC and achieve multiple win screens in Beach Mode, which are wallpapers shown when meeting certain requirements.

The requirements for the 4 win screens are:

Clear the game

Clear the game with 100%

Clear the game in 1 hour

Clear the game in 1 hour and ten minutes (according to research) with 100%.

You want to skip every cutscene with when you can. Also, be sure to skip the tutorial. Prioritize getting sunscreen when you must and use the bubble to bypass as much of each stage as you can. Get the Dream Squids that you can but make sure you don’t spend too much time. If you fall in a pit and have to redo a checkpoint your better off restarting. On average you have about 2 and a half minutes per stage and you should be able to scream through several stages but some stages such as the World 3 Boss can't exactly be sped up.

Fortunately, you have the benefit of being able to save after every sub-world so you can save after the tutorial, save after 1-1, save after 1-2 etc. but you cannot save after defeating Risky Boots. Due to this, you must beat her then escape on the lava slide in one attempt to save time otherwise you will add several minutes to your run.

Remember to collect as many gems as you can. Shantae's hair attack will power up just like it does in the main game by doing so.

Don't focus on Dream Squids but rather collect as many as you can. If you have particular trouble with one, you can always come back to it after you beat the DLC and get it as part of the 100% speed run.

If you can't make fastest time, beat the game with 100% under fastest time instead. Now go back and do a pure speed run by starting a new game on the same game save, preserving your previous win screen memory and ignoring all the Dream Squids and get the last win screen.

If you fail and continue, it's basically reloading your save file and does not impact your time. Also, any collectibles you found before continuing and post save are lost and will need to be reacquired.

Note: In each Sub-World stage there are 3 Dream Squids to find. There are no Squids in boss stages or in the final lava slide.

A guide for all 45 Dream Squids can be found here: LINK.
