How to unlock the True Friends! achievement in Shantae: Half-Genie Hero - Definitive Guide

**THIS SOLUTION IS FOR ORIGINAL VERSION**. They nerfed (lowered) times for the Ultimate Edition. I looked at the comments of people claiming different times at their profiles and theyve only played the Ultimate Edition. Please ignore them so that you dont confuse yourself.

As per usual with Shantae games there are four unique win screens. You'll get one just for beating the game. You don't have to get all four in one playthrough. They carry over between save files as well. The four win screens are:

1. Game Complete (Just Beat the Game).

2. 100 % (Collect all Dream Squids [3 per level])

3. 100 % FASTEST TIME (aka Speed Run) The cut off for this is probably around 1 Hour 45 Minutes. I did it in 1:28:20 without a guide. I recommend learning where the Dream Squids are in each level, not saving, then reload and replaying it and doing it flawlessly. Then save. Any time you fail make sure to go to main menu to load and not continue. Continue will add your fail time onto your total.

4. FASTEST TIME (aka Speed Run, no Dream Squids needed) The cut off for this is 1 Hour 20 Minutes. I did a run in 1:28:20 and did not get it. I did a run in 1:01:10 and did get it. Fastest times I've seen for 100% Speed Runs are 1 Hour 18 Minutes, so it is possible to do all four screens in one run, which leaves next to no room for error (~2 minutes).

I had a pretty good run with very few mistakes and only managed 01:28:20 for 100% and only 3 screens. Maybe you've got more skills than I do, but this will most likely take 2 playthroughs to get all win screens.

I recommend you do a 100% playthrough Speed Run followed by a Speed Run. Make sure to start a new save file as continuing a previous save file from the base game or first DLC will add to your total time. Also when going for speed runs skip all dialogue as fast as possible by mashing the cn_A. According to good Super man some scenes allow you to skip a series of dialogue with cn_start, so try that first and then if it doesn't skip mash that cn_A!!

Thanks guys! I plan on killing time and saving again every few minutes to experiment with what the exact cut offs are but you're saving me time! laugh

For dialogue you can just hit start and it skips all the dialogue and puts you in a black screen for 2 seconds. It saves a lot more time than just mashing A

Other than that only other scenes I don't think it doesn't work with is when a boss goes into another form like squid barron when hypno barren joins in

All win screens at once with a 1:04:12, and that included a bit of revisiting a stage to refill magic for the retarded Dual Barons fight. Very lenient time if you don't fuck around.

First run, got 1:40:32; received 3/4 screens so 1:45:00 is most likely correct for 100% speed run.

(Missable)

This is the most difficult trophy in this DLC set. Just like in the other modes of Shantae Half-Genie Hero, you must beat the DLC and achieve multiple win screens, which are wallpapers shown when meeting certain requirements. The requirements for the 4 win screens are:

Clear the game

Clear the game with 100%

Clear the game in 1 hour 20 minutes (according to research)

Clear the game in 1 hour 45 minutes (according to research) with 100%.

You want to skip every cut scene with when you can. Also, be sure to skip the tutorial when you first get control of Bolo. Now, you have 1 hour and 20 minutes to clear every stage and get close to 100%. Get the Dream Squids that you can but make sure you don’t spend too much time. On average you have about 4 minutes per stage and you should be able to scream through several stages.

Fortunately, you do have the benefit of being able to save after every sub-world. So you can save after the tutorial, save after 1-1, save after 1-2 and so on.

Remember to collect as many gems as you can. Each character has strengths and weaknesses and depending on your play style, try to get as many gems for each as possible. Bolo can attack quickly and strongly which is useful especially in the last boss. Sky on the other hand has a good range but slow attacks that speed up the more you get gems making her pretty strong in the Dual Barons fight if she has a full gem count. If you have need for life and have enough MP, remember to use Rottytops to restore life by eating brains (yum) so make sure to keep Rottytops magic charged if you can. Remember that magic is not automatically restored and both magic and gems carries over stage to stage.

You do not have to focus on Dream Squids but it is highly efficient to collect them in each world as you go and while some are a bit out of the way, you have plenty of time. Collect as many as you can. If you have particular trouble with one, you can always come back to it after you beat Nega-Shantae and get it as part of the 100% speed run. Refer to Kid Squids for how to find and reach each Squid.

There is adequate time to collect all Dream Squids and still meet the deadline for fastest time. I purposely ignored two squids in World 2-2. I beat the DLC at 107 minutes, went back to collect the last two Dream Squids then faced Nega-Shantae again, clearing the DLC at 1:11:25 with 100%.

On average, every stage including bosses was about 3 to 4 minutes long if you keep moving with only one or two in the 5 minute length. If you find yourself stalled and making too many mistakes, reset the game and start from your last save point.

If you fail and continue, it's basically reloading your save file and does not impact your time. Also, any collectibles you found before continuing and post save are lost and will need to be reacquired.

When you beat Nega-Shantae, you cannot skip the ending. Just spam to get to the results screen. Hold to speed up the credits as well, because it's quite lengthy.

Note: A peculiar bug occurred when I got the trophy. It popped 4 times, once for each of the four win screens. The trophy counted, it just happened this way.
