This is missable.

After the story related training duel against Fuku-San, you'll have the choice to go in the Dojo and fighting him again. Do it to unlock the achievement.

This event occurs the day after finding Charlie in Tattoo Parlor.

Warning : this achievement is a little glitched. You may have to do the requierement multiple time to unlock it so save before trying. You can save after the story related duel and then try to fight him again. If it doesn't pop when the fight begins, try again.

How do you get him to train? Whenever I interact with him we instead talk about the objectives?

it's after the duel you do with later in the story. Not at the begining of the game. The duel is story related, you can't miss it. They talk about the good old time when they are fighting.

^Rafael, this one has also not popped for me after practicing again.

Reloaded a previous save and got it to unlock as soon the practice started. Seems glitchy

As BLYAST said, glitchy.
I missed it the first time. I replayed up to this point and it didn't unlock.
Reloaded the save from the previous night, and it unlocked at the beginning of the rematch.

Is this definitely story related? The story related fight you guys are talking about only initiated after I went to the dojo intentionally, would it have happened if I'd just went to the house?

Yes it happens automatically the morning after if you don't trigger it intentionally the day before.

Had to reload a save too, it pops as soon as you agree to practice with Fugu-san having already done the story related one so save after that and reload if you don't get it.

FUKU-San was still there when I came back from the job interview (I had a save there), popped immediately upon hitting accept. Thanks Evandalist!

That's awesome, dude. Happy to hear it. I had no idea he'd stick around that late. Typically sparring with him is just a morning activity, or that's how I remember it being like 15 years ago when I last played this game anyway. Glad I could help out.

Totally glitched. I created a save point right after you receive the letter in Chinese from 'what ever her name is' outside your house. Ran round the side to the dojo for the sparring session with Fuku-San. No achievement :( Three re-loads and sparring sessions later and it popped.

Finally unlocked after saving and reloading 4 times. Unlocks, as others have said, seconds after accepting the spar. Was my last achievement to unlock.

Playing this on a Series X and had the same problems. I reloaded three times and nothing. Quit to home, closed game and reloaded and it popped first time.

This is not unlocking for me, tried practicing by myself at the dojo and sparring with Fuku-san, but nothing

On the first day of what was disc 3 on the Dreamcast, when you're supposed to go look for a job at the harbor, you can spar Fuku-San that very morning if you immediately go to the dojo after waking up. From that point on you can spar him every morning going forward until you get the harbor job. Then it will stop because the game automatically makes you report to work upon waking up.

Hope that helps anybody who is having trouble.

It is possible to get this one after you encounter Chai at YouArcade (Hong Kong ticket sequence) and lose the fight, also (besides the solution described above by WhiterValkyrie).

After you lose the fight to Chai, Fuku-san will save you and bring you back home.

When you wake up again, go to the dojo and do a training session with him. After that, the achievement will pop up.

I just attempted this based on your solution and it didn’t work. After I spared with Fuku San all he would do is keep telling me to get the money back from Shmeggal aka my preeeeciiiooouuss.

This works! Create a save before entering the dojo. If the achievement does not pop after the training reload and try again. Got it that way.

I tried a few times and it wouldn't unlock. Carried on with story and kept the save game, and when I went back to it a few days later it unlocked.

Thanks for the solution, I was sure I'd missed this achievement after I didn't get it at the first opportunity!

Very good that you have posted this solution. I was not aware of that. So there is another chance (third) to get it if it was missed or glitched on the other occasions. A second occasion is available, at the moment after talking to Ine-san (it was afternoon), and awaiting a telephone call from a travel agency on the next day. We need to be sure to save game status right before that one, or the other occasions.
