Items and Aspects can be Synthesized either by talking to Rapple in Marna near where Kirika stands, or at any campsite. To unlock new recipes you must first complete side quests for Rapple. You will more than likely unlock this naturally as you play the game.
The, Pants, Party
You will learn about this in Chapter 2, and can do it via Rapple in town, or the fire at any campsite. Synthesizing is done by combining various materials to create an item or enhancement of some kind. You need to create 50 unique items, so you can't spam the cheapest one to unlock this, but there are a lot of various items that you can create, so you can just work on the 50 cheapest different ones instead.
