A Resonance is when one of your team member triggers a passive ability. To the side of the screen, an anime style 'eye shot' will appear during battle.

Starting in the Windia Plains with Sonia and Kirika, depending on the bonds you have activated between the three current party members, a Resonance can happen. You will notice a resonance happening if the character portraits pop up on the left side, followed by an attack title showing on the top. You will get this without even trying, as the Resonance effects happen depending on how active in battle you and your teammates are.
The, Pants, Party
A "resonance" occurs in battle when an ally buffs you. It happens randomly and I got it during Chapter 2. There are weapon upgrades that can increase the chance and I think the affection system can increase things as well, but you'll get this without actually doing anything early in the game.
