How to unlock the Dirt Poor achievement in Shovel Knight: Treasure Trove - Definitive Guide

It seems like collecting gold in the other stages is unavoidable, so I think King Knight's stage is the best for this achievement.

You definitely want to avoid jumping near any red banners that hang from the ceilings. There are various gems hidden behind them, so time your jumps carefully.

I also included a video of myself playing. I don't unlock the feat as I have already unlocked the achievement, but keep an eye on my gold counter. Make sure you do a short jump around 2:09 in the video. The achievement will unlock after you defeat King Knight.

Just got this on the first stage of the game so it is actually possible to do so on other stages :).

@FuuKitsune the first stage isn't a No Quarter stage so it doesn't count for the achievement.

My #1 tip would be to spam the phase locket to glide through enemies rather than engage with them, so that they won't spawn any gold.

Also, if you die on the map, collecting your own money bags counts as collecting gold.

First off, I suggest going into options and switching your relic activation to Button mode so that you only have to tap cn_Y to use relics rather than having to use the left thumbstick/d-pad and button combo. It makes the entire game much easier IMO.

You can knock out On a Diet, Shovel Economy, Dirt Poor, and I'm Alive rather easily on the very first stage, Plains. Just come back once you have the Phase Locket relic at a minimum, and perhaps one of the goblets with the full health/magic ichor in it to get your magic back if you need more for more phasing. Head through the level, avoiding enemies as much as possible and using the Phase Locket to pass through them rather than kill them to conserve shovel swings. Downward bash (where you jump and hold down to bounce off enemies) doesn't count as swinging, so use that on the large dragons to kill them, making sure to bounce AWAY on the final blow (7 blows kills them) so you don't grab any gems/food when they die.

To make sure you get Dirt Poor and On a Diet, do not pick up any food items. When you have to break dirt blocks to progress, only break the minimum required to get through to conserve shovel swings, and do not stand close or on top of them when you do so. If you have to break them from above, bounce off to the side with the downward bash move to conserve swings and avoid grabbing any gems that come out.

On the part where you have to go down through a large area of sand blocks, with ooze enemies below it, make sure to hug the far right-hand side, breaking an area only ONE block wide, as there are no gems there. When you reach the bottom, activate phase so you don't kill the ooze enemies and run through them. When you get the the Black Knight, just jump and hold down to do the downward bash to damage him rather than swinging your shovel, making liberal use of the Phase Locket to avoid dying.

In the interest of creating as much of a one-stop-shop as possible, I've included 22 of the miscellaneous achievements in Shovel Knight in the video below. I wanted to include Knuckle Down as well, but the stage for that was already complete in my game and I haven't played back through again to unlock it. You can see a playthrough of the Plains mission with 0 deaths that unlocks On a Diet, Shovel Economy, and Dirt Poor at the end at the 04:27 mark. I'm Alive doesn't unlock because I had already earned it, but it would have had I not earned it previously.

This can be done quite easily on the first stage - but you need the propeller dagger to jump over the small pillar which holds a single gem near the end. It also helps with the flying platform on the first checkpoint.

At same places you have to wait till the gems disappear after breaking some blocks.

Also - during the screen where you have to dig down through several blocks (with the red gem on the left) hug the right wall - when you dig straight down there won't be any gems - just make sure not the hit the slimes 2 times below you.

This solution won't work as the first level is not an "Order of No Quarter" stage.

As the trophy says, you are not allowed to pick up any Gold at all throughout the entire stage. The Gold awarded after defeating the Boss at the end of the stage does not count. My preferred stage for attempting this is Pridemoor Keep, as some of the later stages are almost impossible to finish without collecting any gold. Just be sure to take it slow, and if any gold pops up, either from defeating an enemy or from breaking a block, it is best to be patient and wait for it to disappear before moving onward. The other thing to note about Pridemoor Keep is that there are quite a few places where there is treasure hidden behind the hanging banners, and you won't know that it is there until you accidentally pick it up.

Please see the trophy Untouched for a video of Dirt Poor and Untouched in a single run.
