How to unlock the On a Diet achievement in Shovel Knight: Treasure Trove - Definitive Guide
this is rather a straight forward achievement. don't pick up any food during the level and you will get it. you can get hit but if you don't collect any food you will be fine.
the first level is great for this as it is short and it is not that hard. the only warnings, the two dragons will drop food among their treasure so to be safe, either get the dragons to move forward and get past them or just don't collect the treasure when you kill them.
There are two turkey platters, one in the open, and one hidden near the boss. you have to deliberately uncover them to eat them, so easy to skip them.
One treasure that you have to hit a hidden wall will drop a carrot among the rest of the food. you don't need to go through this hidden wall, so just skip it.
once you beat the boss, you can claim your prize.
*** EDIT***
It has been brought to my attention that there is a chance of this glitching for some players. Apparently the developers know of this issue and are working on a patch for it.
If it does glitch, then I am not sure how to get around it other than to wait for the patch.
Thank you Habfan5693 for the information

First off, I suggest going into options and switching your relic activation to Button mode so that you only have to tap to use relics rather than having to use the left thumbstick/d-pad and button combo. It makes the entire game much easier IMO.
You can knock out On a Diet, Shovel Economy, Dirt Poor, and I'm Alive rather easily on the very first stage, Plains. Just come back once you have the Phase Locket relic at a minimum, and perhaps one of the goblets with the full health/magic ichor in it to get your magic back if you need more for more phasing. Head through the level, avoiding enemies as much as possible and using the Phase Locket to pass through them rather than kill them to conserve shovel swings. Downward bash (where you jump and hold down to bounce off enemies) doesn't count as swinging, so use that on the large dragons to kill them, making sure to bounce AWAY on the final blow (7 blows kills them) so you don't grab any gems/food when they die.
To make sure you get Dirt Poor and On a Diet, do not pick up any food items. When you have to break dirt blocks to progress, only break the minimum required to get through to conserve shovel swings, and do not stand close or on top of them when you do so. If you have to break them from above, bounce off to the side with the downward bash move to conserve swings and avoid grabbing any gems that come out.
On the part where you have to go down through a large area of sand blocks, with ooze enemies below it, make sure to hug the far right-hand side, breaking an area only ONE block wide, as there are no gems there. When you reach the bottom, activate phase so you don't kill the ooze enemies and run through them. When you get the the Black Knight, just jump and hold down to do the downward bash to damage him rather than swinging your shovel, making liberal use of the Phase Locket to avoid dying.
In the interest of creating as much of a one-stop-shop as possible, I've included 22 of the miscellaneous achievements in Shovel Knight in the video below. I wanted to include Knuckle Down as well, but the stage for that was already complete in my game and I haven't played back through again to unlock it. You can see a playthrough of the Plains mission with 0 deaths that unlocks On a Diet, Shovel Economy, and Dirt Poor at the end at the 4:27 mark. I'm Alive doesn't unlock because I had already earned it, but it would have had I not earned it previously.

Try your best to avoid damage, as healing is not an option. Picking up any health items at all, or even using a Troupple Chalice, will negate this trophy. You need to go through the entire stage without healing. If you decide to take out the Mid-Bosses in the stage, just be aware that they usually drop a food item upon death. I recommend the Plains stage as it is fairly easy and not very long.
Surprisingly enough, you ARE allowed to die, respawn at a Checkpoint, and go on to finish the stage and still get the trophy.
Please see the trophy No Damage! for a video of On a Diet and No Damage! in a single run.
