How to unlock the Penny Pincher achievement in Shovel Knight: Treasure Trove - Definitive Guide

This can be done with very little effort if you purchased everything you need on your first playthrough and moved to new game +.

You should have no reason to ever even bother going back to any of the villages. Simply just mash through your new game + playthrough and you'll pop this achievement with no issues.

I can confirm that you CAN turn in song scrolls and this achievement will not be voided because your earning money, not spending it.

It's confirmed you can switch armor's as well so long as you ALREADY BOUGHT THEM.

absolutely. the achievement doesn't track deaths, money gained or lost, only money that is SPENT.

Can you switch armor? It costs zero coins to switch, but it would almost seem like you are buying something.. Can anyone confirm?

Does the entry fee to the Hall of Champions count void the achievement?

I have a backup file, just in case.

I just beat the game on NG+ and didn't spend any money and didn't get the achievement.

Do Ichor refills count against this? They're free, but...

I think this has since been patched. I just ran NG+ spending 0 money and didn’t pop the achievement. The only thing I can figure, is it was on the same save file as my first run. Makes no sense bc I didn’t spend any money in NG+...guess I’m in for more play throughs.

Just ran New Game Plus. Zero money spent, zero achievement. Either this achievement is bugged or it now needs to be on a fresh save file.

This has been patched. There is a possible workaround, but you most likely would have to be playing on a physical copy.

I have posted a guide for this on True Trophies, but I'm not sure if it could work for Xbox considering how you have to be online for achievements to pop.

Can you lose money by dying and still get this achievement?

I think the reason my NG+ run didn't pop this achievement is that I did the Mr. Hat boss fight. Giving the 3 people 1k gold each must have counted as "spending" gold...

Missable

Note: As of the 4.0A patch, this trophy can no longer be earned in NG+ so has to be done from scratch in a new playthrough.

The only thing you need to be concerned about is the NPCs that you can pay money to, as this most likely counts as "spending money". The NPCs I'm referring to are the ones in the Armor Outpost in the Fancy Store that each ask for 1000 Gold and the NPC that you have to pay in order to gain admission to the Hall of Champions. Just avoid these NPCs and you won't have any problems. In case you were wondering, refilling the Troupple Chalices is okay, as it is free and doesn't cost any money to do so.
