Crystals appear on your radar in a purple shroud, and appear as crystals (of course) on the screen usually in clusters, but they do appear alone occasionally. All you need to do is collect 500 of these, if you play your cards right, and get 100% collection on every level, then you will get this near the end of level 7.

Collect all the crystals you find, use the mini-map to locate more (crystals are the lavender clouds). See the "Galaxy Crusher" achievement for more details.
