How to unlock the The King of Spin achievement in Shredders - Definitive Guide

Maximizing spins are poorly explained in game, and Spin Dizzy is the first and sometimes the only mission you see people complaining about in this game on forums and YouTube comments. You only need to copy at least one trick to complete the mission and arguably the easiest one to do is the first one right at the beginning: Do a Spin 1260.

I'm going to do my best to explain how to land 1080's and beyond, but it might take a bit to get the hang of it (I consider myself good with technical inputs and it still took me over 10 minutes to do).

First things first, watch this video. For the people who prefer text based solutions, I'll try to recap and give tips, but this video is invaluable as it not only explains what to do but also shows the stick placements on screen, and it's not even 3 minutes long:

Again, it will probably take you quite a few tries to get the hang of it, but once you do you're going to be spinning like a helicopter the rest of the game.

Text recap (watch the video first to get a visual):
  • Press forward on the left stick to gain speed. Every bit helps.
  • Hold RT to prime your jump.
The next steps must be completed near simultaneously so read ahead!

  • When jumping off the ramp (by releasing RT), don't wait until very tip of the ramp to do so. It took me a long time to realize you get much more air if you release RT just a bit BEFORE the end of the ramp. The video actually shows this and I didn't even realize it before figuring it out myself when getting all the SHRED letters in another mission).
  • BEFORE you jump off the ramp you need to prime your Spin by holding the right stick in the OPPOSITE direction you need to spin (you'll see yourself lean in that direction). This is done the same way you prime your jump by holding RT. Immediately BEFORE the actual jump you need to quickly flick/shift the right stick the other direction (the direction you want to spin). This needs to be a quick flick, DO NOT HOLD THE RIGHT STICK. This is the hardest part to get down but with practice it becomes easier. Again, the video shows it in action.
  • After you let go of RT and the right stick, REMEMBER TO HOLD THE LEFT STICK in the direction you want to spin. I believe you can also do a grab with LB or RB to get a little more spin but this isn't necessary if you get enough air.
This may all sound a bit complicated but I promise it gets easier once you understand the fundamentals. I hope I helped you understand better than the game did!

In the second part of the instructions, you say to "prime your Spin by holding the right stick in the opposite direction". Does it matter if you're holding it left or right? Just as long as you flick it the other way after?

I tried that first jump 20 or 30 times and the best I could get was 960 something. I think I must not be jumping at the right point to get high enough, or I'm spinning too slowly.

^ Correct. Hold it in the opposite direction you want to go and flick it the other way after.

It was the same for me in the beginning, to be honest. Takes a while to get the hang of.

This is a phenomenal guide. The game didn’t explain the controls very well and I think the problem is the controls don’t feel very intuitive for this game. Not holding the stick while spinning doesn’t make intuitive sense
