Two things: During the second phase you can accidently kill him without doing the takedown by chipping at his health, so block an parry more than you hit. Also you left off there's a third phase to this fight! And then you have to do another takedown, maybe??

The third phase is mentioned in the guide. It isn’t really that big of a deal to not bring up anyhow though given you can’t die; just make sure you can consistently build up Yang’s miniscule Structure as it recovers really fast in that phase.
