- Kill less than or equal to 150 enemies. Killing more than 350 enemies adds a point to the 'In Water' ending.
- Not dealing any damage to Pyramid Head during the first boss fight with him will contribute to the 'Leave' ending.
- Investigating Mary's photo and/or letter three or more times will contribute to the 'Leave' ending(it also adds a point to the 'In Water' ending).
- Healing more than 600 points of damage.
- Choosing 'Snake' during the Woodside Apartments Coin Puzzle.

This is the ending that players are likely to get, and is considered the "good" ending, if Silent Hill 2 can even be called a good ending. In this ending, James comes to terms with his situation and leaves Silent Hill with Laura.
As with the original Silent Hill 2 release, the game's three main endings seem to be dictated by your behavior throughout your playthrough. The actual requirements for the Leave ending are potentially a little murky, but as with the 2001 game, they generally require James to show loyalty to Mary rather than Maria. Spend as little time with Maria as possible, don't visit her often, and perhaps don't show too much desire to save her when she's in trouble. You should also try to keep James in full health whenever possible, and it can be helpful to examine the photo of Mary in your inventory a few times during your run.

I confirm what prince_uter wrote. I chose the snake out of ignorance, and now since the last manual save there is absolutely no way to change the ending. Whatever I did - the farewell comes up, and that's it.

Getting the reconciliation ending opens access to its extended version in the new game plus. To get the new ending, you must first get the reconciliation ending, then on a new playthrough, when you run around the city with Maria, enter the cliff behind the historical society, pick up the note with the code there. Then open the safe in the bowling alley and take the key. Use the key to open the box in the Brookhaven garden. Use the item from the box in the hotel before watching the tape.

I would also like to make my remark. I played the game on PC for the first time, and had no problems choosing endings and conditions. I got three endings at once. I didn't look at letters/objects until the last save, and I didn't visit the hospital/labyrinth either.
This time I decided to play on PS5 using a similar tactic and got into the "cyclic ending" - "Farewell". I replayed it 4 times from the middle of the Hotel, changing the conditions (the last save) and looked at knives and put different apples, well, and listened to the dialogue and not.
It was written here earlier that the choice of the "guilty moment" in the apartments has a strong influence. So this time I chose the Snake. Before that, on the PC I chose the "Girl".
