This achievement is pretty annoying to get if you somehow leave it until last like I did.
The game turns to night about every thirty minutes. When it does the moon traverses the sky to the southeast. It has six different phases. You need a FULL moon without any obstructions. If there is a shadow crescent on the moon it won't pop. If there is a cloud in the way it won't pop. If your feet are in the water or your character is looking away from the moon it won't pop. I found that the Dutchman's Camp on the Southeast edge of the map gave pretty good sightlines.

If you don't want to wait until nightfall (about 30 mins from morning), you can quit the game and rejoin, there is a 50-50%, that you will be spawned on a server where the part of the day is night.

This is an easy one. You need to disembark your ship and stand on an island somewhere – anywhere will do, but you need to be able to see the moon, so don’t do this in the day time, obviously. Tilt the camera upwards at the moon and also have your character facing the moon. Your view of the moon needs to be unobstructed, and you need to hold this position for ten seconds, at which point this achievement will unlock.
