Talk to any blacksmith and they will sell armor.
Purchase the blueprint in the buy and sell category
Gather the required materials (usually being a form of iron)
and ask him to build said armor
Afterwards exit the menu and hold
to open up the ship menu or just head over to your ship and equip the armor.

You can unlock this trophy early on, as part of the main quest. Once you have spoken to the Blacksmith in Sainte-Anne, you will have the option to purchase armour from him. All you need to do to unlock this trophy, is go into into the ship management menu and equip the armour. When you do, this trophy will unlock.
