How to unlock the Martial Law achievement in Sleeping Dogs - Definitive Guide

The easiest and fastest way to defeat every martial arts challenge (and to win every hand to hand fight in the game) is to use the "leg breaker" B,X,X(hold) and "rib breaker" (B,B on a stunned opponent from behind) combo together. This incapacitates the two most common types of enemies instantly (the basic thug and the brawler) and it can't be interrupted after the first grab (B).

To get the leg breaker, you need to find two statues for the martial arts master (you need to do his training quest first). The two nearest is in Winstons restaurant (Most Main Mission early in the game) and in the Bam Bam club (Main Karaoke Mission), the leg breaker is in the bottom row. You know the rib breaker without any upgrades.

What you need to do:
After a fight starts push the analog stick in the direction of the nearest common enemy and grab him (B), this is the only time you need to wach out for counter. So just push the B then put your thumb on the Y. Wei has a great reach so you don't need to mash B anyway. If you successfully grabbed him then you're safe, no one will attack you till you finish! Then go for the X, X(hold), the opponent falls to his knees. Now you need to push the analog stick in his direction again and mash B,B. While Wei starts to break his ribs you can rotate the camera around to search for another victim. Repeat.

Don't forget, the only time you need to watch out for counters is when you go for the first grab. This combo let's you safely eliminate most opponents usually leaving you with only a few slow thugs. They can be defeated easily with the X,X,X(hold) attack. Just mash the X twice and watch out for attacks (the reason why you don't go just for the strong attacks is because you can't counter properly while doing it and if the opponent didn't attack for two X they will not for a while). There is 4 things that can happen during the first X,X
Red attack: Y
Grab below waist: mash Y
Grab above waist: B
Grab from behind: (X if there is an opponent in front of you), mash Y

This way you don't even need (health) upgrades and most fights is just you breaking peoples legs and ribs while the opponents watching and doing nothing 8)

This was exactly what I was looking to do and just wondering if there was a better way to do it. Perfect solution!

I am using your solution and it's great but I have one question - I have troubles with Martial Arts Club located in Central. I keep getting to wave 6, but after I kill normal guys I just can't finish off those 4 grapplers... Is there a easy way of killing them? They grab me all the time and I just can't do anything...

If I remember correctly beating the grapplers is more about defense than offense. If you counter their attacks (list is in the solution) you have an advantage to land a few punches. If you don't have very good reflexes (like me) you can play the baiting game: land a few quick hits (usually it was X,X for me) expect to counter, then if nothing happened land one or two hard hits. These fights are about surviving until they die from the small damages here and there. Good luck!

This achievement requires you to win all the martial arts clubs. There are 4 one for each district. They are marked on the map with two boxing gloves. You have to survive 6 waves each of enemies. I'd recommend waiting til you have some melee and health upgrades as they can be a bit difficult.

You can also maximise your chances by downing some Dragon Kick (for extra damage), herbal tea (for damage reduction) and whatever food you like for the health regen before you start.

Switching your clothes around to get a Minor Thug or Thug bonus is probably a good idea too.

Does anyone know how many opponents you have killed by winning in one the martial arts clubs? Thought this could be useful as a fast way to gain the 200 kills in one session required for all gold stats.

The one in Central has a set of double doors on the street. They lead to a back alley.

Each of the 4 sections of the map have their own Martial Arts Club, marked on the map by two orange gloves. Go to each of these and talk to the guy with the yellow conversation bubble above him.

The most important part for me was to attack one guy at a time, then when another enemy started glowing red, I would counter it. It's even possible to beat them all just on counter-attacks.

My strategy was to go for the bigger guys first, the ones that like to grapple you. Those guys were the most annoying and typically did the most damage. They don't block your attacks so feel free to go haywire, just be weary of the other guys. USE YOUR COUNTERS!

For the guys with taped-up wrists that block almost every hit, make sure to use grapple attacks because they don't counter those. They just block the basic attacks.

Then you got the regular skinny-looking dudes who are pretty easy to beat. They eat every attack you throw at them, so I'd focus on these guys last.

A big advantage I had was finding all the health shrines, thus having a double health bar, however this achievement can still be completed relatively easily without the boost.

Hope this helped!

After completing the Story Mission "Amanda", Martial Arts Clubs are unlocked throughout the city, one in each district.
Martial Arts Clubs are marked as on your map and mini-map.

Martial Arts Clubs basically pit you against 6 waves of enemies, increasing in difficulty after each and every wave; more enemies, different enemy types. Therefore, it is probably wiser for you to do them after you've visited a number of health shrines for the extra health boost in addition to having learned some new Martial Arts moves that are awarded from retrieving the Jade Statues for Master Kwok and bringing them back to him.

Simply visit each of Martial Arts Clubs and make it to the top in each one, to unlock this trophy.

The Martial Arts missions will become available once you visit the Kung Fu Temple. They're shown as kind of a little explosion looking icon on your map. You'll need to defeat six waves of enemies per club, which is easy enough if you've gotten all or most of the Jade Statues to learn new melee skills. This achievement is best reserved for end game.

These become available after you pay a visit to the Kung Fu temple. The Martial Arts Clubs are displayed as  on the map. These require you to defeat 6 rounds of enemies. You do not have to bet on these fights and when you die you do not have to pay hospital fees. Suggest collecting as many Jade Status as you can so that you can learn new fighting combos and moves. Refer to the video below for Jade Statue locations.
