How to unlock the Hat Trick achievement in Slime Rancher - Definitive Guide
It is extremely difficult to get 2 gold plorts from a gold slime, let alone 3 plorts. In order to get the achievement easily, you must reach rank 22 from the 7zee rewards club. You should get access to the rewards club on day 7. When you reach rank 22, you will get an item called the golden sureshot, which allows you to get 3 plorts from a single piece of food that you throw at a gold slime. So once you get the sureshot, look around the range and try to find a gold slime. Sometimes I find them near the ranch in the morning. So once you find a gold slime, just shoot a piece of food at it, and the achievement will unlock.
Edit: It can take a long while to reach rank 22, so you shouldn't focus on this achievement first. Try to fill out your ranch with as many slimes as possible in order to get large amounts of newbucks in a short amount of time.
Edit 2: There are 3 vaults hidden around the range that have a ton of black treasure pods. Each treasure pod had at least 10 gold plorts in them, and you'll need to build 100 slime gadgets in order to unlock them. You can find the vault locations here: https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=sfDgR2kFbJk
You'll also need a slime key to open each vault. Use the gold plorts to reach rank 22 quickly, and make sure to go to the moss blanket vault once you reach rank 22 because a ton of gold slimes will appear, and you only need to hit one of them to get the achievement. ALSO, you'll need to beat adventure mode before you can get access to the vaults.

Also, if you can get as close as you can to level 22 before beating Adventure Mode...
Make sure you always carry food with you. Shooting a Gold Slime with hens or water won't work!

You should mention that going from level 1 to level 22 takes a whopping 456,500 newbucks.

With the addition of the 7Zee rewards club, this achievement has actually become about 100x less hard than it was previously before it. At 7Zee rank 22, the player is awarded a gadget called the Golden Sureshot. What this gadget does, is when hitting a gold slime with a fruit or veggie, you are garunteed that the gold slime will drop 3 gold plorts.
In order to reach 7Zee rank 22, the player must rack up a cumulative of 456,500 Newbucks, which is quite a lot. I will briefly share with you the method I used to get newbucks relatively quickly.
For this method you will need 2 fully upgraded gardens, 2 fully upgraded corrals and 2 fully upgraded silos. Put these 6 buildings close to each other because you will need to use them often.
I had a 2-way teleporter going from the lab to the docks. So I had 2 gardens at the lab and then the 2 corrals and the 2 silos at the docks. I put 25 mosaic slimes into each of the 2 corrals, totaling 50 mosaic slimes. I would plant 2 gardens worth of Silver Parsnips and then go to sleep. When I woke up, I would collect the parsnips, shoot them into the corral and then go right back to the ranch house and sleep again. Once there is 100 Mosaic plorts in the auto collector, you suck the plorts out and then put them in the silo.
(Note that since this solution was made silos have changed from having a maximum of 4 slots, to a maximum of 12 slots each. This means that we can store many more plorts and sell them whenever you feel the price is high enough.)
The goal is to fill each of the 12 silo slots with 100 Mosaic Plorts (totaling 1200 Mosaic plorts). You would also make the corrals hold 100 each after the silo is filled. (Equaling an extra 200 plorts). Then you would sell all 1400 of the plorts on the same day. If the Mosaic plort wasn't quite at the price I wanted it to be, (which was around 100-110 Newbucks per plort) then I would just sleep until it went to my desired price. Selling 1400 Mosaic Plorts for a minimum of 100 Newbucks each nets exactly 140,000 Newbucks.
Once you get to a high enough 7Zee reward level to get the vac upgrade that allows you to hold 100 of any item in your vac, it halved the amount of time it took to complete the process.
Once you have the Golden Sureshot, you must simply hit a gold slime with any fruit or veggie (sometimes hitting it with something other than a fruit or veggie, results in only 1 gold plort being dropped). Below is a video of my recommended farming spot for finding Gold Slimes. It is in the Indigo Quarry past the first Rock Gordo, the pond with the puddle slimes and across the bridge.
Alternatively, if you have beaten the adventure mode by reading all of Casey's emails, you can go to the teleporter Hobson opened up to his vault in The Moss Blanket. The teleporter to the vault is located past the Feral Hunter Slimes. You will need an extra slime key to access the vault however. There are tons of gold slime that spawn there and you are bound to hit one. Make sure to bring a lot of food to spray at the slimes. Be warned though, the gold slimes only spawn the first time you trigger them. They will not spawn on subsequent visits to the vault.

My ranch was already full of very precise buildings and slimes I wasn't willing to destroy for the sake of farming largos. For the 5 day rush it was fine, because you start out with an empty ranch. But I had over 200 slime science gadgets on the s a, including that I had every purple spot filled on the ranch. Each purple spot contained a gadget that corresponded to what slimes resided nearby and so on. Simply too much hassle to pick them all up. Destroy all building, rid myself of all slimes and so on. I was playing the game since before the corals even had a plort collector, and there were only 2 areas to explore. THE only thing to do later in the game was to create slime science gadgets back then. Not to mention my game was already insanely laggy because of the sheer amount of things on my ranch. Putting hundreds of animated largos on the ranch would have made it worse.

Gold slimes are a random spawn in a spot that a normal slime would normally spawn. There is no real "time frame". It literally is a small chance for one to spawn in the place of a normal spawn. Back before the game was fully released I farmed that spot for gold slimes trying to get hat trick! before the golden sureshot existed. I had success there but they would stop spawning for me as well. It depended on where I shot the slimes when my inventory is full. This game has a weird habit that if you shoot the slimes too far, they disappear from your sight but are actually still there in a different loading zone. Meaning that if you shoot 100 pink slimes out of your current loading zone and then hit the zone, there will be an explosion of 100 slimes from where you shot them. This may be causing the game to stop spawining slimes on the island. I now shoot the slime straight into the water near the bridge to make sure that they disappear for good instead of just seemingly disappearing. If my spot is not working for you, you could always try just walking around. You will encounter quite a few gold slimes just from walking around the different areas of the map.

Here's my video guide where I talk about the Golden Sureshot upgrade, show you how to get to the Moss Blanket vault, and talk about how to snare a gold Gordo (after the next update):

Thanks for sharing this, was wandering around waiting for one for a while (had accidently walked into one before getting sure shot) this is such an easy and quick way to get it. Thank you

Hey all, just a quick guide for unlocking the achievement Hat trick. Not much to add to the previous posts, just wanted to share a video about it. Hope it helps, and great job Ace and Galaxy for the guides!
The solutions on this are a couple of years old and I think an update has fixed this achievement. Specifically with the Gilded Ginger giving 5 plorts and no achievement. This now works, I hit the first Gold Slime I saw with a Ginger and the achievement popped. I am only level 12 with 7Zee and do not have the sure shot. Just letting everyone know as so many comments say the opposite.
Gold slimes can appear in the initial area with the pink slimes right at the start of the day, but they only appear for a short time.

There isn't much to add, that the previous three solutions haven't offered already.
The only point that I would like to make is that getting a gilded ginger (the favorite food of the gold slimes) does not trigger the achievement, even though they give 5 plorts (I think) when they eat it. I tried this yesterday and it did not work. It appears you must be 7Zee level 22 for this to be able to be unlocked.

This is a guide for those of us who have already opened the vault with the gold slimes and haven't gotten the achievement. You don't need to restart the game for this achievement, as you can force a gold slime spawn with the Master Gordo Snare.
YOU WILL NEED
7Zee Rewards Level 22 for the Golden Sureshot
4 Gilded Ginger
20+ Any food
1 Master Gordo Snare
- 20 Hunter Plorts
- 10 Spiral Steam, uncommon Pump drop
- 10 Hexacomb, uncommon Apiary drop
- 10 Slime Fossil, uncommon Drill drop
For the science drops, use at least Advanced items to give a good chance of getting one or more with each cycle. While waiting for those, look through the Glass Desert for Gilded Gingers. Two spawn per day and give a faint ringing to signal you. Below is a video from Upsilon regarding a good route to run; use any echoes you may have to mark the places in the video to help on subsequent runs.
Once you have all four, place the Master Gordo Snare at your ranch and bait it with a Gilded Ginger. Sleep until morning to find a Gold Gordo. Feed it the remaining three gilded gingers to pop it. Before it pops, switch to your stack of food and be ready to fire into the crowd of gold slimes that appeared. With the Golden Sureshot, the achievement will pop in-game first, with the Xbox achievement following suit around 20 seconds later in my experience.

There are three main ways to get this achievement.
Before doing any of these make sure to get the Z7ee rank 22 upgrade which makes it so that you only need to hit a gold slime with one food instead of three. It depends how much time you want to spend and if you have opened the moss vault yet.
1) Use the slimes that spawn when you enter the moss treasure room. This is the fastest way if you still have this available since it only happens once per save file.
2) Use a master snare and 1 gilded ginger to spawn a gold largo. Then 3 more gilded ginger to burst it and then hit a small gold slime that comes out.
3) Go AFK in the one of the none farm areas and wait for a gold slime to spawn and randomly eat a piece of food. This is what I ended up doing.

if you buy level 22 in the 7zee club, the "Sharp Shooter" skill will unlock and three golden plorts will always fly out... a bunch of golden slimes can be found in Gobsan's cache in the moss cover, which open after the credits

The trophy drops when you shoot a Golden Slime with Golden Ginger. We find about 4 pieces of golden ginger in the Glass Desert and get profit in Gibson's Cache, which is in the northernmost part of the Mossy Cover.
