How to unlock the Blood and Sand achievement in SMITE - Definitive Guide
NOTE: During Spring 2022, this achievement was marked bugged as it appeared that no tracking was being done on Arena matches. Fortunately, as of May 18, 2023, it appears this achievement is now unlocking properly again. See the comments section of this solution for the latest updates.
This has to be done in PvP matches, Co-op matches against AI don't count. You'll need 25 matches completed, win or lose. Of course, its always more fun (and time flies faster) if you're winning, so heres some Arena tips for you:
1.) First off, understand scoring. There are four ways to reduce your score:
* Killing an enemy God deducts 5 tickets.
* Last hitting an enemy minion deducts 1 ticket. (Minions are spawned in waves of seven every 20 seconds.) NOTE: Once a team is down to 10 tickets, killing small minions will no longer deduct tickets. Killing large minions and escorting your minions through the enemy portal still deducts tickets.
* Escorting friendly minions to the enemy portal deducts 1 ticket each.
* Escorting a friendly Arena Juggernaut (they spawn after a team gets 10 kills) to the enemy portal deducts 15 tickets.
2.) Make sure to kill as many minions as you can in between fights with other Gods -- though only one point a minion, they add up quickly over time. I have won many matches where out k/d ratio is unfavorable, but since our team took the time to kill minion waves, we had the best score at the end. I cannot stress this enough, your team should constantly be killing minions.
3.) This may be obvious but try not to die, as this shaves five tickets off for the enemy -- if you're at 60% health or less, retreat and heal up. Fight that urge to chase the guy with low health, as more often than not you'll run into a wall of full health enemy Gods and have a bad time of it (thanks to short respawn timers and close healing zones). Use this time to kill five minions instead, as its a guaranteed boost for your team. Remember, the only thing that matters for the win is ticket counts, K/D ratios are meaningless.
4.) Lastly, be constantly aware of team positioning. Never fight 2 on 1 (or 5 on 1, as I've seen from some really bad overzealous players), Always stick with the pack, and use each other as human shields to help hurt players escape. People too far out in front of the battle line get picked off -- remember, you want to 5 on 1 them, not have them 5 on 1 you.
Remember: minions, minions minions.

Did you transfer your game stats from PC to Xbox? This sometimes causes these type of glitches. Barring that, it may be a new issue introduced by a patch. Watching the "Recent Winners" list and seeing if anyone unlocks it over the next few days may determine if the latter is occurring...

I didn't transfer my stats. I'm a new account as of just a week ago or so. I'm seeing some people unlocking it still, so might be something with new players.

Arena is a 5v5 gladiatorial-style match. The majority of he action happens in and around the center of the map with buff sites located on either side of the map. You must simply complete 25 matches of arena to unlock the achievement. See the video below for a brief tutorial on arena.

Practice games, custom matches or cooperative games against bots do not count

The first 10 matches in the arena after loading the game will be against bots, it is better to play on the North American server, the delay will be the same, but the difference in the level of play will be noticeable
