Assault is a 5v5 game type. With just 1 "lane" all the action is non stop!! In this game mode you can't pick which god you wish to use you are assigned one at random? (I've had hades 3 games in a row before). Also it doesn't matter if you have the god unlocked or not, you are given one at random out of all the gods in the game.
Tips I have are:
1. Always start the game with 5 healing potions and 5 mana potions as most team mates refuse to use their healing abilities because they want to keep their mana for spells which deal damage.
2. If you don't know what items to buy, buy the recommended or popular items as these are USUALLY works well (not always) for the god you've been assigned.
3. Try to communicate if you can because communication is key in terms of knowing when to go all in with a 5v5 team fight or having someone tank the damage from a tower so you can take it down.
4. Play smart, don't go in if you are the last one alive, know when to retreat or push up.

Assault gives you a random god out of the gods you have unlocked/free rotation. It does not pick from a pool of every god in the game.

Assault is a 5v5 single-lane random god selection battle. You can only return to the base to buy items after you are slain in battle. With the random selection taking place, assault is as much about random luck as it is about skill with unknown gods. You must simply complete 25 matches of assault to unlock the achievement. See the video below for a brief tutorial on assault.
