How to unlock the Are You Insane? achievement in Sniper Elite 4 - Definitive Guide
You can tag enemies with your binoculars to find out distance and they'll remain tagged for extra XP once dead but they won't show in the UI when you put down the binoculars.
My recommendation is to complete the campaign on Hardcore difficulty to get used to enemies, and get a feel for the realistic bullet ballistics. (Optional) Then go for some collectible achievements on Cadet difficulty just to get a learn the maps and where each objective is.
Also you can skip optional objectives as this is challenging as is.
It may be a sniper game but don't forget your SMG and pistol. Enemies you sneak past might join the fight if your cover is blown so make sure to cover your back with traps.
Mission 1 - San Celini Island
Mission 2 - Bitanti Village
Mission 3 - Regilino Viaduct
Mission 4 - Lorino Dockyard
Mission 5 - Abrunza Monastery
Mission 6 - Magazzeno Facility
Mission 7 - Giovi Fiorini Mansion
Mission 8 - Allagra Fortress
not really that hard to complete this achievement ... enjoy !! :)
This is story related and cannot be missed. Authentic difficulty is available right from the start. It is recommended that you do all your collectibles and optional objectives on a lower difficulty for reasons listed below.
Note: This difficulty is not recommended for your first playthrough. It is suggested playing through the missions multiple times until you feel comfortable where everything is and how enemies react.
Authentic difficulty is Sniper Elite difficulty on steroids. It is extremely unforgiving, so play as stealthily as possible and try not to engage the enemy head on. Use your suppressed ammo and sound masking whenever possible and kill only when you have to (enemies are more aware and will react to discovered bodies more aggressively). If you do kill and have the opportunity, throw the body over a cliff or hide it in foliage.
Be especially wary of snipers as they are often not seen until it’s too late. If you get shot by one without knowing where it is, chances are you’ll be killed.
If playing with a co-op partner, try sticking together as much as possible and watch each other’s backs. Communicate with each other at all times.
Authentic difficulty features:
- No HUD (ammo, health, stamina)
- No radar/minimap
- Objectives do not appear on the map or in the mission (they are still listed when you press in the map)
- Enemies are stronger and more aggressive, take more damage, do not show up on map
- You take more damage
- While you can still tag (to see enemy distance and information), there is no icon above tagged enemies or objects
- No empty lung or aim assist (pressing holds your breath and steadies your aim but it does not zoom in, give you a reticle or give you a lung meter)
- No zooming with scope or binoculars
- Iron sights reticule doesn't turn red when you are close enough
- Realistic bullet drop and crosswinds (you can still use and to adjust the range of your scope)
- When playing co-op, friendly fire is on (take damage when shot by teammate)
Luckily, if and when you die, you have the option to restart the checkpoint. Checkpoints are quite generous on this difficulty. In Sniper Elite III, when you died, it was necessary to start the mission over again when playing on this difficulty as there were no checkpoints or manual saving. And while you have the ability to create manual saves in this game, if you do, you will void the achievement “The Best of the Best of the Best.” The game auto saves at regular intervals so you can load one of them as well.
Completing the game on Authentic unlocks the achievements for all other difficulties below it (that are still locked).
