How to unlock the Master-At-Arms achievement in Sniper Elite 4 - Definitive Guide

Each weapon has three upgrade-able stats which require you to meet different usage requirements while using that weapon to unlock. Descriptions of each requirement - and your current progress toward meeting them - are found when viewing a weapon in the Loadout menu.

Only after you have completed all three of a weapon's upgrades will you be able to start making progress toward the fourth "Mastery" slot, which unlocks a special gold-themed skin for the weapon.

Once you have completed the mastery requirements for one weapon in each slot - rifle, secondary, and pistol - the achievement will unlock. You do not have to have all three equipped at the same time.

Just choose the loadout that works best for you, or that you've already made the most progress toward, and get to work!

Here's what I learned about double kills... Not much. I played around with getting double kills for the Mosin-Nagant mastery for about an hour today. I had a great save spot on the final level with 2 Jager troops next to each other. I was awarded a tally on my 10 double kills for mastery when I killed 2 enemies with 1 bullet every time. I also tried shooting their grenades a half dozen times and, while I always got XP for a double kill, I was only awarded a tally on my double kill mastery skill two out of those six times. On one of the explosive double kills that counted - I got an intestine kill on the first enemy, the bullet went through him, and hit the grenade on the enemy directly behind him.

I think what I took away from that is that you may almost always get double kill XP for explosions including 2 enemies, but somehow those don't always count towards weapon mastery. All I can deduce from my attempts is that it might have to do with the proximity of enemies to each other when the explosion happens.

hi, some good ideas and tips in your guide. thumbs up.

i am just wanting to see if anyone else has problems getting this achievement to unlock. i have now met the requirements twice. and it still shows locked.
fully mastered 2x rifle/smg/pistol....nothing
followed routine wait 72 hrs, delete profile etc and try again to get requirements, which i have.
i may have to get all other achievements first, delete save and start a new game and master the 3 weapons again

For anybody like me that didn't know how to do a rifle's shoulder aimed kill, press very slightly on the trigger to aim which will bring your view behind the shoulder. If it goes to the scope, you went too far so ease up on the trigger. The range is very small.

OddManRush: Thanks for the reminder, I've added it to the list. It took me a while to discover you could shoulder-aim rifles as well.

scotwolf2: Sorry to hear that. Not sure if it will help, but there is a patch that should be hitting XBL this week (PC and PSN already got it) that addresses some issues related to corrupted progress. Might be worth giving it another shot after the patch, although I haven't seen your specific issue reported as part of that before.

Trying to get the range adjustment kills on the lee enfield for mastery however unlike some other rifles it doesn't appear to have the sight adjust (right arrow button) is this the same for everyone or am i doing something wrong?

I think double kills are 2 enemies killed with 1 bullet?

I finally opened up the mastery tier on my first rifle, and neither hitting a depth charge on the MAS nor killing 2 enemies with an explosive element have tallied towards my 10 double kills needed to master the weapon, and I am given XP for explosive kills and multi-kills only. I haven't had a chance to line up 2 kills with 1 bullet yet, so I'll report back my findings on this later if no one clarifies it by then.

In the first mission there is a tutorial where you have to get a double kill caused by the enviornement. This seemed to count for my weapons double kills as well as the achievement for environmental kills.

Didn't pop. Mastered ZH-29, FNAB-43 and HDM
Edit: Tried with base game guns: Carcano, FNAB and M1934. Did not pop.

Edit: I set my console to offline, cleared all local save games, got the weapons masteries for 3 base game weapons (all could be done on the first mission), went back online and the achievement popped.

Couldn't seem to edit my original post.

I set my console to offline, deleted all local saves, got weapon masteries on three base game weapons (all done on the first mission - right at the beginning), went back online and the achievement popped.

See A Most Singular Expert for more information on how to master the sniper rifle.

Let's take the Welrod and Thompson as prime examples as these are your starter weapons. To see how you are doing head to the player loadout click on your desired weapon > press > then for upgrades.

For the Thompson, you need to unlock the following:
  • Damage - 10 ricochet kills - Bullet rebounds - To gain easy kills aim your Thompson to the ground near the enemies feet, the bullets should bounce from the ground into the enemy
  • Accuracy - 2km total kill distance
  • Range - 50 Kills from above
  • Mastery Skin (once the other 3 are unlocked) - 100 headshots

For a visual reference, see below:

For the Welrod, you need to unlock the following:
  • Damage - 15 environment explosive kills
  • Accuracy - 25 kills over 30m
  • Range - 50 kills from above
  • Mastery Skin (once the other 3 are unlocked) - 100 headshots

For a visual reference, see below:

This achievement is similar to “A Most Singular Expert” with the exception that you have to master all three weapon types, not just one.

To earn a mastery for a single weapon, you must complete three upgrades before you can perform the mastery upgrade. Each weapon has different upgrade requirements and all involve killing enemies in a variety of ways. To see what upgrades are for each weapon, highlight the weapon type in your loadout and press to view a list of all the weapons of that type (purchased or otherwise). Scroll through them, highlight the desired weapon and press (Skins/Upgrades). On the next screen, press to select Upgrades and it will show you what the upgrades are and your progress towards each one.

As you will see, most upgrades require you to grind out kills over and over again. You can use the save game feature and keep reloading or unlock them naturally through playing the game.

Once you’ve completed all four upgrades for any weapon, you will have mastered it (unlocking “A Most Singular Expert”). Repeat this for the two other weapon types and the achievement will unlock.
