Apart from the glitch discussed in the other solutions, you can of course play the game normally on authentic. However, Sniper Elite lets you have the freedom of how you want to do it. So you can run through the missions like Rambo, or stand in the back and take out one enemy after another with your sniper rifle, or, as these videos show you, you can play as a stealth sniper and sneak through the missions unseen, taking out only the enemies that are absolutely necessary.
I decided to use non-lethal on the enemies. You can also use lethal of course, it makes no noticeable difference. Also, you can save and reload at absolutely any time. Of course, this makes things extremely easy for you. In my videos, however, I did not use game saves. It's a complete run from the beginning to the end.
One more important thing.
If you want to replay this walkthrough, you need to know one thing. The enemies are in their fixed areas, but in this area they act completely "randomly". Each time you start the mission, the game decides to put the enemy in position A / B / C etc and let him run / interact routine A / B / C etc. This is great for replaying the game, but of course rather not good for a walkthrough. So you have to improvise a lot and see what your enemies are doing in their areas and how they stand to the other enemies. Fortunately, you can save at any time. When you are happy with a kill, save. If not, reload the old save and try again.

Start off by playing through the game on whatever difficulty you like. I did the game on Medium on my first run and it took hours per level. While you do this be sure to look to open the new starting locations, there is usually 2 new starting locations you can unlock per level by interacting with the area somehow. These will be marked on the map if you find intel or Fairburne spots it while going through the mission so be sure to check your map from time to time. You will be around level 40 now as well which means you have max stats.
When playing the levels on authentic do the following: Equip silencers to your rifle and secondary. Save often as you will die a fair amount and you can reload from last save. Start the missions in a place closer to your mandatory objectives. Run around everyone you can, sprinting straight for your objective and killing enemies only when you need to. Stay away from open areas. The alarm will go off lots but that draws enemies to that area and it's not that big of a deal to sprint away from the area. If you get cornered, try making a bottleneck such as a staircase where there is only one way in and kill the nazis as they come. You can pick up their weapons and loot their SMG ammo or loot their bodies for bandage or medkits. Use lethal or non-lethal takedowns where possible as well which will automatically loot their body now that you've unlocked all perks. After completing your objective run sprint to exfiltration point.
I was able to do levels 1 - 5 and 9 pretty easily using this method. It was quick too, far faster than my first run. Hope this helps.

that method was patched. but you can still join a friends game that has a save at the end of the Every level that's been played through on authentic.

Re edited my comment sorry I tried last night and I found outbit didn't work but I'm wondering why when I beat the ninth mission on authentic it didn't change

‘Authentic’ difficulty is available right from the start. It is recommended that you do all your collectibles, kill challenges and optional objectives on a lower difficulty for reasons listed below.
Note: This difficulty is not recommended for your first playthrough. It is suggested playing through the missions a few times until you feel comfortable where everything is and how enemies react.
‘Authentic ‘difficulty is ‘Sniper Elite’ difficulty on steroids. It is extremely unforgiving, so play as stealthily as possible and try not to engage enemies head on. Use a suppressor, your suppressed (subsonic) ammo and sound masking whenever possible and kill only when you have to (enemies are more aware and will react to discovered bodies more aggressively). If you do kill and have the opportunity, hide it in foliage or a bin. You can also choose to knock out enemies, but still hide the bodies regardless.
Be especially wary of snipers as they are often not seen until it’s too late. If you get shot by one without knowing where it is, chances are you’ll be killed.
If playing with a co-op partner, try sticking together as much as possible and watch each other’s backs. Communicate with each other at all times.
‘Authentic’ difficulty features:
Completing the game on ‘Authentic’ unlocks this achievement and Liberté (90G) if it is not unlocked yet.

Complete each of the 9 missions on Authentic difficulty.
Authentic is unlocked from the start but it's highly recommended to finish the game on an easiest difficulty first to get to know the layout of each mission, and you can also unlock new starting points which can make things easier/faster.
Authentic difficulty will disable your HUD and you won't see any objective marker nor you will be able to mark your enemies. The enemies will deal way more damage and sniping will be realistic which means it will be much harder to sniper from afar.
It's best to unlock all Workbenches first as they unlock new equipment for your weapons. Make sure to bring the best weapons and the most silent version of them as you will want to stay stealth at all times and kill only who you must. Focus only on the main objectives and save a lot, as you are able to manual save whenever you can. Take your time, be patient and bring a friend in coop if you need extra help.
