When this achievement popped for me. My Total Shot Distance record read 42,319 under the career stats menu. So that give you an estimate of when it should pop. Not sure if the shots have to cause kills or just hits. Or if missed shots count towards the total or not either.

Easy way to get this is by replying the prologue mission. Right at the start you can get two kills for 183m each and then reload the checkpoint. This also works for your 506 scoped rifle kills.

Most kills report the distance you made the shot from (even if it doesn't report the distance on screen it will still increase). Each time you get a sniper kill that distance will accumulate. You need a kill distance of 42,195 meters (26.2 miles) total for this achievement to unlock. You will easily get over the course of your two playthroughs and co-op runs.
