How to unlock the The quill is mightier than the sword achievement in Solasta: Crown of the Magister - Definitive Guide
Just adding a note so no one panics like I did. This achievement did not pop for me until I left Caer Lem. I was worried when it didn't pop after the quest finished. The quest itself is pretty straightforward, though you may be confused when you are supposed to "enter the tower". The entrance is actually high in the air, and you'll need to be able to fly to reach it. The Mogo merchant here in Caer Lem sells a scroll for it if none of your characters have it. Fly up there and you'll automatically drop a rope, then head inside. There's a fight at the end, and then one of those blue squares you can enter, that will finish the quest. Then leave Caer Lem to get this achievement.

Academic is a great background, maybe the best. Not for what it gives your character, but for the +15 reputation with the Antiquarians at the start of the game. (I have differing reports on whether this bonus stacks with two or more party members) This is a huge head start on the best faction. (Only in the main campaign) You also get Proficiency in Arcana, Nature, and Insight, all good skills, and two languages. The quest is actually two quests, and can be annoying or fun, and have some decent loot. The first quest starts after you return with the crown. Talk to the scavenger lady Annie, then go to the big circle, and speak to Master Dackin. Travel to Caer Lem. There's a flying tower here. You'll need fly, dimension door, or both Levitate and Misty Step available to reach the tower, and then drop a rope. The magic store in the big city sells a potion of flying for 460 GP, and the one in Caer Lem sells one for 540 GP. Whichever way you choose, clear out the skeletons and grab the loot to complete the first quest. That's sufficient to earn the achievement, but come back for the second later. It's good loot and XP.
