How to unlock the Endangered Species achievement in SOMA - Definitive Guide

Spoiler Alert!!!

This achievement can be earned late in the game after you arrive in Tau. After running from a monster and going through a couple of big red circular locked doors with the locks around the perimeter, you will come to a Living Quarters area with a bunch of doorways off of this room. One of these rooms/areas is the Infirmary, which is where the final living human (on Earth!) is located. This is actually somewhat story related as your objective leads you straight toward this room to grab the ARK before progressing. Sarah is hooked up to a life support machine in the Infirmary and you simply need to speak with her to get the achievement to pop before turning off the machine to her right that is keeping her alive.

Spoiler free solution below! This achievement is very difficult to miss, so if you're concerned about even the teeny-tiniest of spoilers, I wouldn't hesitate to just ignore the rest of this solution and just play the game on the assumption that you'll obtain this achievement naturally as part of story progression. If you want to make double sure you don't miss this (which is technically possible), the solution to this achievement is below.

Note that while I view this solution as spoiler-free, I have protected the content below anyway just in case someone out there happens to disagree.

This is the eighth achievement you should unlock during your trek though PATHOS-II. This is story-related, but can be missed if
Playing in "safe mode" will not disable achievements in SOMA, including this one.

This is technically missable but you'd have to be pretty impatient to pull it off.

While evading the ferocious creature in Tau, you will pass through 2 large red doors that take an eternity to open. Once past these your next goal is to pass the door labeled "Infirmary." That is our target, once past this and up a ladder you will meet the last living human. Speak to her and it will trigger.

This is missable as talking to her triggers the trophy and you could hypothetically walk in the room and immediately turn off her life support. But...like don't.

Story related but can be MISSED

Before you can get this trophy you'll have to do a few things and it won't be easy.

First, you need to trudge through the pitch black ocean floor. Stick to the lights so move from light to light and try your best not to get hit. Eventually you will reach some buildings. The last one on the left will have a switch you need to flip. Go back out and to the garage and tell the robot to go to Tau. Follow it and stick close. Once you get separated, again stick to the lights and the follow the green glow sticks.

On the other side of the cave follow the power cord to your right down to the next set of lights. Ignore the light in front of you. It's an angler fish and it will attack. Keep following the lights until you reach Tau.

Once inside Tau, you need to open the circular red door at the end of the hall to the right. There will be a monster on the other side. Fair warning: This is the hardest enemy in the game. It can see and hear very well, run fast and kill you in 2 hits. Crouch everywhere, keep your flashlight off, don't bump into anything and don't even look at it if you can help it as you'll just draw attention to yourself. If you enter a room, immediately close the door behind you and turn off the lights then find the darkest part of the room, crouch there, face the wall and pray it doesn't find you. There are 2 or 3 healing spots around if you need them but don't use them if he's too close.

You need to go into the hallway the monster came from. Use rooms with multiple doors to your advantage by throwing stuff in one room to get his attention and then circling around him but keep the lights off! Once you get past him into the next hallway, take your first left and then the next available left. There's another circular door you need to open and this will get his attention plus it opens slowly. There's a small 2 door room in this area if you need a distraction. Once you get through the second red door and up the ladder, you're in the clear.

In the next area the room to your immediate back right has another room with a computer you need to use to unlock the Infirmary and Ross's Room. In the case of Ross, attempt to enter a code, then back out and go back in and he will enter it for you. Go back into the main area and enter the door that says "Infirmary", open it and go up the ladder. There's a woman in here you need to talk to to get this trophy. I don't know why you would but it is possible to turn off her life support before talking to her, thus missing out on this trophy.

The trophy will pop after you talk to her.

You can miss the trophy if you don’t chat with Mademoiselle in the chair, but immediately disconnect her from the life support system and take the ark, I did that, I had to replay.

To get the trophy, just talk to Sarah Lindwall. There is no need to kill her. In Patos-2, everyone was killed. Let Sarah live. The Ark is accessible to Simon in any case.
