How to unlock the Yokozuna achievement in Sonic & All-Stars Racing Transformed - Definitive Guide

I have uploaded and created a playlist of my laps for beating each ghost, for those who missed out on the glitch (such as myself.)

http://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLLKl5EZasJU4MewlfRRQvO...

You only need to beat the original 20 tracks for the achievement to unlock, not the mirrored versions or OutRun Bay if you have that installed; I unlocked the achievement in the Egg Hangar video.

I made the call to not commentate over any of them in case people played back any one section repeatedly. That said, I'm more than willing to answer any questions about any of the laps either in the comments on here or on YouTube.

I used standard Sonic in every race bar the first track to keep things consistent; most races would benefit from a better character, such as Shadow on Chilly Castle for instance.
(Chilly Castle can take a running jump off a cliff.)

This achievement is far from impossible, it just takes a few practice laps and some determination.

Hopefully this is helpful to some. Good luck!

I have tried replicating the chilly castle video doing the same moves and I can't even stay ahead of the ghost using sonic's standard or speed mod. I've tried using shadow trying every possible trick and move I can come up with and still can't beat it. I've tried using danica, bd Joe, ralph, sonic, shadow, and eggman. All with the same results. Other people's ghosts make the expert look slower than a child. I have been trying for god knows how long but I lost count at 6 hours. Can someone explain to me how this is even remotely possible without some kind of cheating? Never in my life have I encountered something this hard. To sum up, this IS impossible.

First, thank you for the videos. The little tricks really really helped me getting the achievement. If someone still struggles with the times:
1, Probably the most important thing: you can do a bigger boost at the big jumps. WollyMammoth27 either does a triple flip or a multi flip which nets you lvl3 (Blue) boost. However if you do three different flips (like left-right-forward or forward-backward-left) you get a lvl4 (Gold) boost. The Expert Ghost never does this so you get a big advantage on the long straight road after these jumps. You can even go up to lvl6 (Gold Ring) on some levels with boosting pads.
2, If you barely do any mistakes but still fall behind a little try Sonic Speed or Vyse Standard. Sonic nets you real advantage on straight road and Vyse gives you a much bigger boost every time.
3, While it is logical to keep the boost item for the last stretch because you can start the next try right again, the item gives the biggest advantage if you use it on a long straight road to bump up your boost to at least lvl4. Like on Sanctuary Falls after the first crazy turn, if you come out with at least a lvl2 boost, hit the pad then use the item, you get a so big advantage you can even scratch through the second crazy turn and still win.
4, Two levels I think I should mention if someones struggles pulling of tricks you did:
- Adder's Lair: as a plane early in the lap, I couldn't squeeze myself through the small cave on the left of the Dinosaur. If you boost risk to the right of the Dino's face then boost risk on the colums while going to the left you can keep up or even go faster than the Ghost.
- Graveyard Gig: early in the lap - the small right then big left turn then going up the small steps and left turn again towards the spider. The only way I could pull this off without crashing all the time is drifting through the two turns in one drift. When the small steps threw me in the air in the middle, I did right flips which pulled me through the second turn and I emerged in the right direction, without slowing down and with a big boost.

Finally managed this! Here are a few random things I picked up which might be helpful

Start out a course with a reasonably balanced character (eg standard Sonic), then work out where you can shuffle stats around to. The 'best' distribution for top speed is max speed, max boost. Handling should be as low as you can make it while still getting round the corners comfortably. Acceleration can be left at 1 in most cases, for some tracks you may want to increase it a bit

For some courses you need to control turns by reducing the throttle. The last section of Roulette Road is all about how close you can get to the wall by doing this, as well as the upward spiral turn at the end of Sanctury Falls. If you are slowing down too much and struggling to get back up to speed when doing this try a bit more acceleration, for me 2 in acceleration seemed to be the sweet spot for these turns

Character stat distributions can be found here https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=14885...

Where two boost plates are next to each other (eg Roulette Road, top of the first long curve in Sanctuary Falls), you can sometimes hit both of them to get a lvl 2 boost. This may require a quick drift if you are coming at them straight on

If you drift off a jump so you are travelling sideways, you can gain a bit more speed by barrel rolling in the direction you are going

If you find the ghost catching you on turns, check that you are taking the turn as tightly as possible

You can 'save' a drift boost by constantly doing drift switches. A bit situational, but might be useful at the start of a track - you can use the boost item as normal across the start line and then release the saved up drift boost once the item has run out

The order you chain boosts seems to matter - if you are chaining boosts use the most powerful one last. Eg hit the boost plate (lvl 1) before you use your lvl 3 drift boost, not the other way around. The boost item you start with is lvl 4, always use it last in a chain

Chilly castle was by far the most difficult, tried a lot of different characters and eventually managed it with standard Ralph. Using Ralph the last bend was fairly easy - don't transform boost, hold right coming out of the jump to get around the first bend then drift left around the second, control the turn with the accelerator. Once you are far enough around use the drift boost then the item boost to get to the end

Good luck!

Forgot I commented here over a year ago. I was of course in a hot rage when I commented (trying to refrain from typing the words I really wanted to was tough) Anyway happy to say I did beat chilly castle using sonic with either standard or speed I can't remember which. All I remember is that everything up to the last turn was muscle memory but the last turn it just..happened. I still used your video though.
After that harrowing ordeal I'm leaving completing this game until it's my very last game in my list, I acquire a soundproof room so as to not be evicted, or until hell freezes over whichever happens first. I'm normally kinda anal about completions but this and MK vs DCU are the only exceptions I have to date. Also I'm sorry for a double post I only clicked once.

Hey Ebon, Sanctuary Falls' last bends are all about finding the perfect amount of time you need to let off the throttle, there's no tricks to it unfortunately, you'll just have to keep at it until it clicks. If you race against a top time you'll see they cut half the track via a respawn glitch, you could attempt to recreate that if you want an easier time.

What my video doesn't tell you about Chilly Castle is that it took me 6 hours to do. That final bend requires nothing less than the perfect line coming off the transform jump and again finding the perfect amount of throttle to get round the bend. Shadow has an easier time than most on that track.

Temple Trouble is indeed weird as it took me quite a while. Your best bet to beating it is to get lucky with the waves at the end and add in extra tricks and take an almost straight line across the whirlpool. If you can find a way of adding in an extra barrel roll on the segmented curve just after the monkey target, you could again have a nice extra lead. I couldn't land one consistently, so I just gave up for my run.

It has indeed been patched, I had a go at it before I started going for these ghosts and I had no luck.

Keep at it and I'm sure you'll have it in no time.

Just finished this up and your videos were very helpful, combined some of your techniques with my own and got there in the end.

What doesn't seem to be mentioned in the comments and solution is that Boost is a vital statistic to look for when tackling tracks which rely heavily on it (with boost pads or the ones with large flying sections). Sonic Console Mod is very good for that as it maintains a high speed and the drifting doesn't feel too different to the Speed Mod. It was vital in getting Chilly Castle done after an hour straight of trying it, made the water section much more manageable after the Level 4 boost and just left the luck of that final s-bend. I mostly used Sonic Console Mod bar a few tracks where I switched to Speed or a different character.

The DLC is worth picking up for this as Metal Sonic Console Mod is also good, though marginally worse at handling (which can be mitigated by feathering the acceleration whilst drifting, vital for some tracks like Sanctuary Falls). I got Roulette Road done by using Metal Sonic Boost Mod as it got me around the final two bends very smoothly after trying with several characters.

I'd agree with the order in the post above but maybe swap Adder's Lair with Chilly Castle. You'll just have to get good at that track and the game's mechanics, hoping for a bit of luck on the final stretch out of the castle (with how you land and drift around the final corner).

This is a tough achievement but perfectly doable with a bit of practice. You'll just quickly learn that the worst designed tracks in the game are also the most difficult to time trial.

I finally got it today after years of trying, and here's how I did it. On my Xbox 360 console, I disconnected from the internet and deleted the title update. I then booted up the game without the title update while staying offline. I obviously know those glitches have been patched as of the last update, but I was lucky enough that I beat most of the expert ghosts by using shortcut glitches featured in YouTube videos. For example Chilly Castle was very hard for me without the glitch, so I watched and followed a video using the glitch and it worked! (As a result, I beat the expert ghost in 40 seconds rather than the usual 53 seconds to beat.)

Here's the Chilly Castle video I followed:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rjI0as4t6ck

For Roulette Road, there were virtually no glitches associated with this course. I was lucky enough to beat the expert ghost by a little more than a 100th of a second by watching the video from the playlist posted in this solution.

Reminder that if the player beats the final expert ghost needed on a standard track while offline and without the title update, the achievement will not unlock. It WILL unlock if you go online, boot up the game, which automatically downloads the latest update, and do a random time trial of your choice and finish one lap of it. I unlocked it by doing just one lap of Sunshine Tour.

This can be done easier if you don't mind getting the achievement offline:
There is a glitch that awards this achievement for only beating the Sunshine Tour mirror mode expert ghost, but it was fixed in the latest title update. But you can download the old patch (title update 1, google is your friend here) from the internet, copy it to an Xbox formatted USB drive and then "move" the patch from the USB stick to your console. Decline to install the newer update when starting the game and you can get the cheevo offline. If you already have beaten this ghost, simply driving one round in that event again will unlock it as it did for me.

What isn't evident in the Chilly Castle video, Voraga, is that it took me six hours and twenty minutes to complete and capture that event. I must have sworn and raged harder than ever before.
It all comes down to the luck on the final S bend, I think. I could try for another six hours and perhaps not hit the line I did.
As much as it sucks to say, and to no doubt read, the only real advice I could give is to keep trying. =/

Hey Voraga. I followed Wooly's videos back in July 2013 and I eventually managed to beat Chilly Castle after about 8 hours of trying. It was very, very difficult but definitely not impossible. You have to take the perfect line on the last corner to beat it. It takes a lot of practice and perseverance. I cleared it with Sonic, but Shadow is a good alternative. None of the other characters are viable options in my opinion.

YOKOZUNA! All done, 5 and a half years since my last achievement in this game, been on the bucket list all that time. Very happy.

Thanks for the vids, and to HUN playmore for the tip about boosting, very helpful. Adder's Lair probably took me longest, couldn't get the lava section at the end right. Chilly Castle took me about an hour. The key for me was to NOT transform boost at the end of the boat section. A bit slower, but made the final corner much easier.

I only have 5 time attacks left and they are the last 5 on the list. I see Roulette Road has been given people trouble...so I'm excited to face that track...

I didn't have much trouble with Chilly Castle, using Sonic Speed mod. Once you perfect that last turn, the track is yours for the taking.

I am currently stuck on Race of Ages during the water section and every lap runs different than the next. Hopefully I will get this achievement soon. Did you guys know that Time Attacks are the absolute best achievements?roll

Edit: Got this yesterday and so satisfied by this feat. Definitely not impossible, just diligence and patience.

Top 3 Hardest Levels:
1. Chilly Castle
2. Adder's Lair
3. Roulette Road

All the others took no time at all, but these three to some time of just getting that perfect run without blowing up in your face and making you cry and then question what you are doing with your life...........GOOD LUCK!

Went out and got the physical disc (which I can't return sadly...) but was unable to get it to unlock via the aforementioned glitch regarding doing that one mirrored event. Also realized I didn't need the disc because instead of clearing the cache to delete the title update, you need to actually go to the game on your storage and delete it that way roll Oh well, I'm sure I've wasted $18 on more useless things laugh

Oh, and used Sonic Speed again for Roulette Road. I say he's a pretty good choice for most of them but may switch between him and metal sonic (I ended up buying the dlc, which is £2.00 btw and you get some easy expert ghost to beat on two outrun levels towards completion).

Chilly Castle & Roulette Road are by far the most annoying races...
the last 2 curves in Roulette road are fucking stupid
try to drive the race fast as possible and tap the gas at the last 2 curves to cut them close.
i beat them both with Dr.Eggman with balance kit

Proud to have done this without the glitch!

I have beaten every Expert Ghost including the mirror tracks and the DLC. That makes 168 bested Staff Ghosts lap times in total.

I used Sonic Standard Mod for every time trial. It's perfectly doable with him.

I also beat every single one of gobey17's times on the 42 tracks for a tough extra challenge as he is on my friends list and he had achieved Yokozuna already before. That makes me feel even more awesome!

Adder’s Lair was the last one I needed for this. Completed all of the others using standard Sonic, but after 4-5 hours of trying he couldn’t seem to cut this course. So I switched to standard AGES and managed it in a few tries with nearly a whole second over the expert ghost. AGES seems to be a LOT faster in the plane and boat sections.

Thanks for the videos, they were a great help. Roulette Road was the hardest for me, but I managed to do it finally with Dr Eggman Balanced.
I was having a lot of trouble with Chilli Castle even just keeping up with the expert ghost with Sonic or Shadow, and I found it a lot easier with Ralph's Console Mod. I managed to get it fairly quickly after switching to him.
I've uploaded a few of my times using the XBONE so they can be seen in my clips on this site.

Wow, this achievement can take the absolute **** when facing the three hardest levels on expert. Soooo many hours trying to conquer them (I chose to do them first) and so much rage and frustration. Thank you very much for the vids, which should help when I finish the rest but thought I leave some tips for players who are struggling on these particular levels.

Burning Depths: I found this vid helpful https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VYx9LrRyl2g I recommend using your boosting in the straight tunnel after you transform from boat to car rather then at the end. If you can stick to the corners as close as possible you should stay in front of the ghost nearly the entire time. Used Sonic Speed.

Chilly Castle: What a nightmare. If you can just perfect your drifts and do as HUN playmore said by doing a lv4 3-trick boost in the tunnel into a boat then its just a matter of that final corner (horrible level design). I found middle/middle-right is where you want to be when you trick out the tunnel. When I got it I drifted around to a lv1 boost perfectly before instantly using my saved boost. Used metal sonic but I'm sure any with good handling/speed can get you through.

Roulette Road: This one took me completely by surprise (and almost broke me) after chilly castle in how those last corners can mindf**k you. I spent a long time in being too far out from the corners and being completely hung up over how long I should hold the accelerate. In the end, you basically just need to get as close as you can to the black/white titles, but still be fine enough in the red. But I'll say, save your boost for the lv1 boost up to the finish line, rather than earlier like shown in the vid. It's what got me over in time.

Hope that's of some help. Wish me luck for the rest, and don't be discouraged. If you feel you keep getting worse, take a break and come back to it. You slowly but surely see your times improving from the repetition and muscle-memory of it. :)

*edit; poor wording and punctuation. But I did beat the rest and one of my proudest achievements!

On Chilly Castle I have used Ralph with special balanced mode. Even after wall hit I managed to get under 53secs. Before using Ralph, I tried Sonic, Eggman, Knuckles and Tails with various mods. So far Eggman and Ralph was the best for me, because both can cut corners easier than any other. But Ralph has great boost and speed, which are crucial on this specific course. Here's the video if you need visual guidance:

To defeat all the ghosts will be no easy task. Here is all I can do for you, the rest will be up to pure over the top skill. Firstly you will want to be Sonic. He is built perfect for most of these stages and as is the Sumo ghost. With Sonic you won't be at a disadvantage. To do this you want to abuse drift boost as much as possible (especially on plane sections they will never keep up) and you will want to find a shortcut that cuts time off or gives you a real good speed boost. Some secret shortcuts will actually slow you down or take longer! This gives you an edge over expert Sonic. Easy medium and hard ghosts can be beat on lap one. But expert will take what feels like forever. But on some maps they are extremely easy to beat. It will get easier with time as you will become better and better.

Two absolutely huge tips I can give you: Save the boost for an entire lap and drift to a level 1-3 boost whatever is possible just before the finish line. Unleash the boost and use the item boost, too. This will immediately give you a huge advantage against expert ghost straight away and can give you that precious 1-2 seconds that will beat him.

Secondly there seems to be a glitch for a lot of people (but not everybody!) where if you can beat the Sunshine Tour Mirror ghost with Sonic and his Standard Mod it's possible to unlock Yokozuna and soon after possibly even the triple star license! It's unknown what triggers it exactly as the amount of ghosts and stages beat vary for every person. From unlocking it and a mere 35 ghosts all the way to getting it at 150 ghosts, there's no way to find out unless you give it a shot. Doesn't hurt to try eh?

Make sure you have beaten all Expert World Tours & Grand Prix tournaments before attempting this trophy. That way, you should know how to work this game by now.

This is the second toughest trophy in the game. If you have the Metal Sonic + Outrun Bay DLC installed, you're in luck and you'll be jumping for joy. If not...well...I will give you a cookie if you beat all these expert ghosts!

Basically, go to Time Trial and beat all ghosts, from Easy to Expert. I recommend Sonic + Speed Mod. That is what I used to tackle most of these ghosts. Now really, if you beat all the expert ghosts, you have mad skills.

Now for the lucky ones (like me and other Outrun DLC owners), there is a glitch that you only need to beat ONE expert ghost to unlock this trophy. I don't know if Sumo's going to fix this in the future but let's hope not.

Start up Sunshine Tour (Mirror) and yes there is still a lot of hard work to be done...you have to beat that expert ghost. Use Sonic + Speed mod and make sure you perfect those turns and drifts. Once you beat that horrid ghost, you'll unlock the trophy. You should able to unlock "SUMO Wrestled " on your first lap around (and I should expect you too otherwise you have no hope beating any expert ghost).

You're not out of the woods yet though, you still need to beat other Expert ghosts if you are after the "SEGA Super Star " trophy. The next visit, I WANT you to do (yes WANT) is to do Outrun Bay and beat all ghosts there. The expert ghosts there are very easy to beat.
