When performing a homing attack you can wait for the green ring to shrink and align with an outline of an area on the homing attack marker. When you press 
during that moment, you will hit the sweet spot of the homing attack. Destroying an enemy using the sweet spot will reward you with bonus energy you can use to boost. The aligning of the marker can be seen when it glows bright green and it also has a small noise notification. Sweet Spot homing attacks are easy to get used to, so you will likely earn this naturally.
