How to unlock the Collect 'Em All achievement in Sonic Mania - Definitive Guide

This Achievement is a lot easier than you think. Others have mentined all of this but i'll leave it in a step by step order.

Note: When I did this, I made it way harder than I needed to because I thought you had to do it without taking damage, you can lol.

1. Make sure you've gathered enough Gold/Silver Medallions to unlock Debug Mode.

2. Go into Mania Mode, hover over "No Save" on the right, press cn_Y and switch Debug Mode on and hit OK.

4. Hover over "No Save" again, make sure Tails Alone is the character on screen, and hold cn_X and cn_start until the Level Select screen comes up, click on Metal Madness Zone Act 2.

5. Press cn_X to enter Debug Mode then press cn_A until you become a Ring Box. Press cn_B until you become an Extra Life Box and then rapidly press cn_Y to set them on the ground. Break them all open to get a bunch of extra lives.

6. Go back into Debug Mode with cn_X. Then fly all the way across the stage and activate the last checkpoint before the end.

7. Enter the Boss Fight and let them kill you. (The game will think you are no longer playing Debug Mode do to you dying. Just make sure you never enter Debug Mode again or the game will null the Achievement until you die again. If you need more lives or you accidentally enter Debug Mode, just die again.

8. Re-enter the fight (never using Debug Mode) and hit the lever to drop minions DO NOT HARM THEM. Start flying through the lever to drop more minions, and land every now and then in an open space to let Tails catch his breath. Continue until all eight minions have been dropped and Eggman leaves the screen.

9. Go nuts and destroy all enemies. If you get hit, make grabbing a ring your top priority then go back to the carnage. The Achievement unlocks upon Eggman's destruction.

This sounds like the best solution, thank you! And happy hunting to everyone else!

This actually worked, thank you so much!! I was afraid it wouldn’t because of debug mode apparently voiding achievements but this is spot on. Should be the top solution.

Yeah, it still works even now, and it was tricky to pull off. I got it in No Save Mode to boot!

This achievement is to spawn 8 enemies at once during the boss on Metallic Madness Zone Act 2.

I'm going to suggest you do this on a save file Without tails as P2.

The reason for this is tails will damage the bots, destroying them. Additionally, amy-bots will latch onto him and self destruct, removing them from the fight. You want as many alive at once as possible in order to get the achievement.

It is possible with 2P, just harder.

Keep jumping over the enemies and generally avoiding them, you can only spawn them in a a certain rate.

Once you have 8 on screen at once, feel free to mess up the small army and defeat the boss. Achievement will pop once Eggman goes down.

Edit: If you absolutely want to do it with two players it might be better to have a physical person controlling P2. Tails can walk into the enemies without fear of dying, and just jump to avoid the amy-bots. I don't know if the "shrunk" tails can fly, but if it can it would be an effective way to keep away from the enemies.

Has anyone had trouble unlocking this?

I tried to do it using Super Sonic since I had him on at the time but the achievement didn't unlock when I defeated Eggman.

Confirmed: you can't use Super Sonic for this. I re-tried using Sonic (without Super) and the achievement unlocked.

I did it alone, and the achievement still popped, I multi-tasked by using 2 controllers, with Super Sonic as 1P and I controlled Tails with 2P controller, I made sure Tails was as far off the edge of the screen as possible, flying away at specific situations. You have more focus and are in a more controlled environment as Super Sonic. You absolutely have to make sure to spawn all 8 Eggmins without actually destroying them and make sure Eggman runs out of them BEFORE you destroy them. They can each take 3 or so hits, except for the Amy ones that can take 1 hit from a spin dash or self explosion.

No haha, but I'm glad for you. I built up 50 lives by replaying the first level again and again, jumped into this and the closest I got was 6. This is HIDEOUS.

Has anyone else tried using the level select/debug mode cheats to skip to the boss? I did it without realising you had to kill the robots afterwards, so I thought it didn't work but it would be a huge time saver if I was mistaken. I can't re-check now since I already unlocked it normally.

For those that aren't aware:
Debug mode = unlock with bonus stage coins, highlight the "no save" slot and press Y
Level select = turn on debug mode and hold down X+Menu over the "no save" slot

I got this on my first play through using sonic and tails. I definitely did not fulfill the requirements for the achievement when it popped. I tried to do it 4 times, letting myself die when one of the minibosses died. On my last attempt I gave up after an amybot self destructed, I figured it would be too hard with sonic and tails, so I killed the boss like normal, the achievement then popped. So it is glitched in some way, just not sure how yet.

When the amybot grabs you, button mash and you escape (and she doesn't explode).
It was much easier once I discovered this

I can confirm this does work using the level select/debug mode cheat. I just did it with Tails.

I tried to unlock this achievement using the Menu+X Level Select and Debug Mode like Q8J3 Austin, but it would not unlock no matter what I tried. Tried with Sonic, tried with Super Sonic, and tried the same with Tails and Knuckles. Eight enemies spawned, killed them all, no Amybots self-destructed, but no achievement. Finally said fuck it and went through the game again normally as Tails and it unlocked as it should. Dumb achievement.

I can confirm that the level select/debug mode worked for me. Skipped through the level using debug mode, spawned the enemies while flying above, and dropping down when I could to get tails' breath back. Popped after i killed them all!

Thanks for posting that Xboxoholic :)

I thought the most infuriating part of this achievement was how easily you can mess it up and have to lose a life. Having only 3 lives to do with this with (plus whatever lives I could get through Metallic Madness zone) is what was also annoying about this.
The debug mode is actually useful in this respect.

I cannot get level select to work with any regularity. I have no idea what I am doing wrong. I've successfully gotten into it twice, and not sure what I did differently. How do you know when you have held menu and x long enough? Do you hit A or Start afterwards?

Once you've turned Debug on in the Secrets menu, hold X when highlighting No Save then press A. Continue holding X until the Level Select appears.

I didn't have them all spawned at once and still got it (think I still had 2 to spawn), I just killed them all really quickly while releasing the final 2 at the same time and still got it. Maybe they have to be killed in a certain time frame or with almost no time in between each kill? I kept tails out of the way by tapping A on a 2nd controller with my foot haha. smile

Yo, just play as Tails like the other solution shows. Makes the achievement trivial by comparison.

It also worked for me in normal Sonic + Tails without having 8 at once. I think I got up to 5 and then died to retry and decided to just finish it with about 5 again but made sure to empty the ship. the achievement popped as soon as the boss was defeated.

I'm even willing to say that this is the toughest achievement in the game.

I had to begin a new game just to do this one with just Sonic, big mistake because I should have picked Tails for this. You have to go through 11 zones just to get to this boss.

Even worse is if you have low number of lives, because a Game Over would take you all the way back to the beginning of Act 1.
It's a shame you couldn't do this in Time Attack like pretty much every other achievement in this game!

This is in addition to Xboxoholic's tips if you are still struggling.

Playing the bonus stage also clears the debug flag. So you could get to the one just before the boss, spawn loads of lives and super monitors (for rings), a blue ring and a shield, then go to the bonus stage and deliberately run into a red sphere. You'll return to just before the boss fight, but with lots of rings, the combined effect for dropped rings, and the shield.

The shield is a free hit from the baddies or protection from the flames. If you then get hit after having lost the shield, the combined effect will mean picking one ring up will net you a lot. Essentially, you can screw up 3 times or more before you're down to 0 rings, as opposed to 1 if you just play from the checkpoint after a death.

Also, if you do die, remember debug is enabled, so what you can do when you restart is as above, but you can also place a lamp post, which provides access to the bonus stage so you can clear the debug flag again. Additionally, if you place the post after the shrink ray, you can do the boss full sized if you so wish.

Hello, I have some tips for getting this. You can get this on debug but you need to be careful.

You can use debug mode for whatever you want up until you get to the boss. Trigger the checkpoint before the fight begins, and let the boss kill you. You will now respawn at the checkpoint.

After you respawn, the game thinks you are playing "Mania Mode", and not "Debug Mode". If you enter the debug features at any point after respawning, the game will think you're back to "Debug Mode" and will stay that way until you die again.

So while although you can use debug mode to get to the boss battle, you must complete the battle legit, without entering debug mode after respawning.

If you run low on lives, enter debug mode, spawn as many life boxes as you want and deliberately lose one life again before trying for the achievement.

I'd also like to apologise for my unconstructive ranting earlier in this thread, and hope that his help kind of makes up for digital pollution!

I would venture to say that the achievement is "Very Hard" as Sonic, but "Trivial" as Tails. Great solution.

"Trivial" is a little generous, it still took me ~10 tries, the Amys (Amies?) kept preventing me from collecting my rings. Still, using Tails does make this a lot easier.

For this Trophy; you need to get to the boss on Act 2 of the Metallic Madness Zone. During the battle you need to jump and hit the wheel on Eggman's robot that makes little capsules drop out that turn into tiny bosses (Drill eggman from Sonic 2, Lava boss from Sonic 2 and robot Amy). For this to unlucky you can't destroy any of them and they all need to be out the same time. It'll pop once Eggman flies away.

This trophy is earned during the boss fight on Metallic Madness Zone Act 2, and must be done on Mania Mode.

One of the hardest trophies in the game!

The boss fight is Eggman controlling a big Gachapon machine (It’s a kind of Japanese toy dispenser, hence the trophy description).

To beat the boss you will hit his dispenser knob to let a mini-boss enemy out. He has 8 mini-boss enemies that can be unleashed, and once all are dead you attack the knob once more to win the fight.

There are 3 types of enemies:

  1. Amy Doll – These latch on you and explode. Shake them off by pressing left/right repeatedly. Dies in 1 hit.
  2. Drill Eggman – Just drives along the ground at a steady pace, then goes back the other way. Dies in 3 hits.
  3. Flying Eggman – These enemies fly overhead and drop fire every so often, while swooping down as well. Annoying to dodge, dies in 3 hits.

To earn this trophy however, you need to have all 8 enemies on screen at once without killing any (damaging them is ok though)! It is quite difficult to do and you will waste a lot of lives doing this, there is no guaranteed way to get the trophy.

It is a bit luck based in terms of which enemies spawn.
I find the easiest to dodge are the Drill enemies. The Amy ones can cause a lot of frustration as well, so it does take a bit of luck to get the right combination that helps you succeed!

I did the trophy with Sonic on my first run, then again with Super Sonic as seen in this video:

0
0

This can be attained on the second act of Metallic Madness Zone. But before starting, whilst in the Mania Mode screen press Y to bring up the Game Options and enable Debug Mode.

To access the Level Select Screen, highlight the 'NO SAVE' option (with Tails selected as your character) and hold X followed by holding Start.

When the Zone loads up, transform into a Ring by pressing X and follow the route shown in the video to the end of the level (before the Boss encounter). Press A to scroll through the items available until you reach the Starpost. Place it on the level by pressing Y and scroll through again with A until you find the Large Ring and place a few down as well as a monitor for a flame shield (press B to scroll through monitor options). Turn back into Sonic by pressing X and collect the Rings/Flame Shield and enter the Special Stage via the Starpost. Complete the Special Stage (by hitting a Red Sphere) and return to the level.

To unlock the achievement you must have all 8 mini-robos on the field of play at the same time. This is best done using Tails as he can fly without landing for a while, hitting the switch on Dr Robotnik's machine every now and again.

When the 8th mini-robo is out Dr Robotnik will fly away and you will have to defeat what remains. The Robotnik clones can be beaten with 3 hits and the Amy clones with 1. By having the flame shield you will be immune from any fireballs cast by the flying Robotnik clones.

Activate and simultaneously destroy 8 eggmins during metalic madness act 2. I would recommend playing either sonic or tails because playing as sonic and tails will have tails damage or destroy the bots. If Tails destroy the bots, you get a hug from amy bot (unlike in sonic cd), or enter debug mode, you'll have to start all over again. Achievement/trophy pops if all eight egg mins spawned and destroyed at once.

Level: Metallic Madness
Act: 2
Character: any, easiest with Tails
During the boss fight, you need to release all the balls containing the enemies before killing them. That is, you need to turn the lever on D. Robotnik until he disappears, only then kill all the enemies that “hatched” from these balls.

If you initially played the Sonic&Tails campaign: debug mode will not help you, even if you hide your red-haired friend behind the monitors and then turn off debug mode - it will not count, the trophy simply does not pop up.
But you can turn on the second controller, hold the sticks in the direction of some corner of the boss level so as not to get in the way, and try to knock out the trophy.
Otherwise, you will have to start a new campaign for Tails.
