How to unlock the King of Speed achievement in Sonic Mania - Definitive Guide

I did it on time trial using the route on this video (the video is not mine) . Hold Y to reset the run quickly :)

You need to finish Stardust Speedway Act 2 in under a minute.

Credits to Shadiochao for the video.

Yes, you need to get to the end in under a minute. That's what it said when I unlocked it.

You don't need to be quite as perfect as it is in the video

Thanks for this video anyway emongev. I would not have completed this game without it, I suck at finding quick paths through levels!

I finished 1:01:26...luckily the achievement pops as soon as you enter the room at the end where the goal is so I was lucky enough to reach that at 59sec

You can use debug mode with level select for this also. What I did was as soon as the level started i entered debug mode. Then I went all the way to end of the level and spawned a checkpoint and an enemy. Then I spawned in and hit the checkpoint and right after that I let the enemy kill me. When i spawned back in and went over 1 screen to the boss the achievement unlocked.

@Skate 323

How did you do that? You can't level select with Debug Mode enabled can you?

Edit - Yes you can! Skate's method worked fine for me. Thank you.

@TomCra if you completed the game, you'll have the option to select any levels whether you acquired all the chaos emeralds or not.

I recently found an extremely easy way of doing this. I'll put it in a step by step order:

Note: Once the level starts you have to be quick, if you go over 1 minute, pause and hit restart.

1. Get enough Gold/Silver Medallions to unlock Debug Mode.

2. Go into Mania Mode and hover over "No Save" then press cn_Y to enter the Secrets Menu and make sure Debug Mode is turned ON, then press OK to exit.

3. Hover back over "No Save" then press and hold cn_X and cn_start until the Level Select screen comes up. Select Stardust Speedway Act 2.

4. In the level, press cn_X to enter Debug Mode and fly all the way to the right to get to the end of the stage.

6. Back track to the Red Spring (dont touch it) and press cn_A until you become a Checkpoint. Then press cn_Y to set the Checkpoint on the ground.

7. Press cn_X to return to your character and run through the Checkpoint to activate it.

8. Press cn_X to re-enter Debug Mode and then press cn_A until you become an enemy. Press cn_Y to spawn then enemy, then press cn_X to exit Debug Mode.

9. Touch the enemy and let it kill you. (Doing so tells the game you are no longer in Debug Mode and you will respawn at the Checkpoint you just activated. Run straight forward to find Metal Sonic's Hologram and Achievement unlocked.

Quick and easy, thumbs up from me. Though I should mention that I first attempted a run with Knuckles that did not unlock the achievement for some reason. When I tried again with Sonic, it unlocked no problem.

Thank you so much! Worked first time! Tip if you are new to debug mode you can’t pause it while it is active - just hit the dashboard button on your controller to pause the game if you need to check the instructions or whatever.

The backtrack to the red spring is the key. Must be an invisible line that has to be passed for it to count. Wasted several attempts just skipping to the end. Thanks!

This can be attained on the second act of Stardust Speedway Zone. But before starting, whilst in the Mania Mode screen press Y to bring up the Game Options and enable Debug Mode.

To access the Level Select Screen, highlight the 'NO SAVE' option (with Sonic selected as your character) and hold X followed by holding Start.

When the Zone loads up, transform into a Ring by pressing X and follow the route shown in the video to the area before the end of the level. Press A to scroll through the items available until you reach the Starpost. Place it on the level by pressing Y and scroll through again with A until you find the Large Ring and place a few down. Turn back into Sonic by pressing X and collect the Rings and enter the Special Stage via the Starpost. Complete the Special Stage (by hitting a Red Sphere) and return to the level.

To unlock the achievement you must reach the end of the level within 1 minute.

This trophy is earned on Stardust Speedway Zone Act 2 and is preferred to be done in Time Trial Mode using Sonic. It’s possible to beat with both Tails and Knuckles, but is much easier with Sonic!

What you need to do is beat the entire Act (minus the boss fight) in less than 1 minute. It sounds difficult, but is actually quite easy after playing through it a few times! The best way is to just keep playing in Time Trial Mode and utilizing the button to reset yourself if you mess up, so that way you don’t have to waste your time as much.

Always take the upper paths, and learn when to jump to get to a new path instead of always following the current one.

When in the “maze-like” area with springs, take the right path twice. Then on the 3rd spring, wait a second and take the upper right path (lower right is a dead end), followed by right once more to exit. Finally just keep running to the right and you’ll be home free!

My time was just under 46 seconds. So beating it in under a minute is very doable, don’t be scared!

Mode: Time Trial
Level: Stardust Speedway
Act: 2
Almost impossible to do in Mania mode as you will have to fight a boss at the end of it.

You need to do it in less than a minute.
But the trophy itself popped up when the level was completed in 1.00.88
