How to unlock the Magnificent Seven achievement in Sonic Mania - Definitive Guide

After you beat the game, on the file select screen, you can now select whichever stage you want on your cleared file.
Choose Studiopolis, and follow this path, you'll reach the giant special stage ring in about 10 seconds: https://imgur.com/16ILlFW
Win or lose, once you exit the special stage, just pause and restart the level.
Repeat until you get all 7 emeralds.

None of the stages are TOO difficult, just practicing them a couple times to learn the layouts can get you through. But here's a video showing them all if you want:

Quick note, you have to start and exit the level, not restart it. It won't respawn the chaos ring if you just restart.

After finishing the game I kept running Act 1 of Green Hill zone.

The location of the bonus ring is at 1:40 in the video. I consistently reached the ring in 40 to 55 seconds. If i lost i paused and quit as soon as the time ran out notification popped up. If i got the emerald I also paused and quit but as soon as i returned to Green Hill zone and the emerald saved.

Toughest for me was emerald 4, but maybe rerunning that one like 10 times gave me practice for the other 3 :)

Lol 4th one wasn't too terrible. It's 5 and 6 that can be annoying.

In stuck on the 4th as well. Always JUST miss it.

EDI T: Finally got the fourth emerald but bloody hell, the 5th is nuts. Not sure I've the patience for this. Does anyone know if unlocking the emeralds via cheats still causes the achievement to pop?

As soon as I unlocked debug mode, I started a new save and transformed into a ring. Then I went up and down the screen as far as I could go before moving a little to the right, and as soon as I found a giant ring, I would transform back to go to the special stage. Kept doing that and eventually found all the giant rings I needed to get all the emeralds, achievement popped when I got the final one

The ring won't return for me after exit and coming back. Am I doing something wrong?

Everytime I pause and quit or pause and restart the giant isn’t there anymore. Any advice...?

The fastest and easiest way:
First you must unlock Debug Mode picking up some gold medallions in the blue sphere special stage, you unlock Debug mode for collecting 16 Silver Medallions.
To access debug mode you must:
Enter the Mania Mode and place the cursor over the "No Save" icon, which is on the right. Then click on cn_Y and turn on debug mode.
Using the debug mode, press cn_Y and then press cn_A until the giant ring appears, press cn_X to place the giant ring on the stage and press cn_Y to return to normal and enter the special stage, win the emerald. Just repeat the process 6 more times to grab the 7 emeralds and unlock the achievement / trophy.

Self-explanatory. Every level has secret areas containing giant rings that lead to the Special Stages. What you need to do is beat each of the Special Stages in order to earn the Chaos Emeralds. Once you’ve collected them all, you will earn this trophy and also the ability to be Super Sonic/Tails/Knuckles!

The Special Stages are similar to the stages from Sonic CD, but if you haven’t played that game, here is what you do:

  • A UFO saucer will be carrying the Chaos Emerald away from you, your goal is to catch up to it before time runs out and simply collect it to finish the stage.
  • The UFO will always follow the same path, which is kind of like a racing circuit with an occasionally branching path.
  • You have a time limit, which is based on the number of Rings you collect throughout the stage. You can collect more throughout the stage to increase that timer, but there are a limited number of them and they won’t respawn upon completing a lap of the track.
  • You can also collect Blue Spheres to increase your top speed. This is a necessity for getting the emerald collected. Luckily there are a lot of these and they respawn after every lap, so no need to worry too much if you miss some.
  • After collecting a hefty chunk of Blue Spheres, your top speed will rise to Mach 2. You can collect even more to reach Mach 3 and that is the top speed. So once you hit that, any Spheres you collect are only for score purposes and nothing else.
  • If you fall off the stage at any point, you fail.

There are way more than 7 areas in the game with Special Stages, most levels have around 5 each. So don’t fret if you’re not finding many of these hidden areas or if you accidentally fail a few. My first run through the game, I only had 3 Emeralds. Then when I replayed each level, I found tons of hidden areas containing the stages!

I used Lava Reef Zone to grind out the remaining stages I needed, because I found the rings easier to find there (personal opinion). So pick a stage you like and start searching!

After completing the game, you can collect them, the easiest way is to play the first level, Act 1, there is a bonus ring along the way, after you play the bonus level, go to the menu and start this level again. In this way you can collect at least all 7 crystals.

Video guide with the location of more than 60 transition rings on the Special Stage. You can play the campaign and calmly make mistakes, there will be enough attempts.
