Did it on Act 1 of Green Hill zone following the video below (video is not mine).

Notes:
-The sign comes down where the boss was during the last hit (in GHZ at least). (Mentioned by Slim Panatella).

Credits to Shadiochao foe the video.

is there a certain method or amount of times you need to hit the sign, i keep getting the first powerup and when i let the sign fall for the second it just plants itself in the ground.

No particular method or number of times, the sign just needs to fall in the positions shown in the video :)

Holy shit, I have lived 29 years thinking that the item boxes show up based on number of hits

You have changed my life.

What, the, hell..... I am 31 years old, I was the legit Sonic master when I was younger.... my friends used to watch me play Sonic3/Sonic and Knuckles for hours... I had every path down to a science.... and I NEVER knew the boxes were based upon placement on screen.... thought it was number of hits.....

I actually knew the item boxes were positioned when this game came out but I only found that out a few years ago, it seems like a lot of other people thought it was down to number of hits like myself!

It's also worth noting that the sign comes down from where the last hit was that destroyed the boss

This achievement is glitchy. Doing exactly this method and it won't pop.

Could be that being in debug mode doesn’t unlock this. Tried in debug, wouldn’t unlock, so went into normal mode and tried again, and then it popped.

This can first be attained after you defeat the boss of the first act of Green Hill Zone. Playing as 'Sonic only' makes it easier as Tails can interfere when jumping with the signpost.

The signpost will land wherever the boss fell so try to destroy him when he is on top of the large sunflower on the right (as this is where one of the monitors are). When the first monitor pops up guide the signpost to the 2 purple flowers on the left to pop the second monitor and unlock the achievement

While I knew that Green Hill wasn't the only place this achievement could be done, I DIDN'T know there was a controlled outcome where you could nab two boxes without doing any work.

(I don't think you have to be Knuckles to get the right angle, I was just going through his storyline.)

This certainly surprised the hell out of me. wink

POST EDIT: Whoops! Sorry, forgot I deleted this from my Xbox clips. I've added a YouTube link so this can stay up permanently. Don'tcha just hate that?

To get this trophy, you need to go on Mania Mode.

The easiest way is to select Green Hill Zone, at the end of Act 1. After finishing the boss, the goalpost will fall from the sky and you have to jump around and direct it towards the sunflower and between the two purple flowers on the map. If you do this correctly, both item boxes should pop from the ground. Get them and the trophy will pop.

This locations never change and you can get the item boxes at the end of every boss on Act 1 of any zone.

Here is a video to illustrate all that better (made by Jerry Appleby):

This trophy can only be obtained in Mania Mode.

After the end of Act 1 of any level, you’ll see a goalpost fall from the sky and hit the ground, signifying the end of the current Act. You can jump into this post and knock it around the air before it lands. If you’re lucky, it will spawn a free item when it hits the ground. For this trophy you must get both item boxes to appear before ending the Act.

Each level has it’s own spawn points, but these locations never change. The easiest ones to get are in Act 1 of Green Hill Zone. There is 1 item box between the two purple flowers on the left, and the other is under the yellow sunflower on the right.

See the following video for a visual guide:

The spinning sign needs to land in a certain place. And in which one, watch the video above.

You need to knock out at least 2 bonus boxes at the end of the first acts of the zones using a spinning sign.
