Mike, it takes a few tries to get the timing just right. When you get to the end, boost towards it and as soon as sonic touches the goal, pause it right away as fast as you can. It took me a few tries to do it.

I couldn't get this damn glitch to work at all. Sucks I had to do it legit but hey now I know I can do it. Everytime I hit restart I went to the beginning which sucks because I know I touched the goal.

Was very lucky and got this first time, I could see how the timing is an issue. What I did was get the A > X with my right thumb and press start with my left hand, got it first time doing this.

I can confirm (26/06/14) that this still works and will always work (Because if it's gone this long without being patched it wont)

Honestly? I had no expectation of this working for me. Timing things perfectly aren't exactly my 'specialty' and judging from the other comments about this glitch, it sounded tricky. However.... I got this on my second try :D How? I have no idea, but sure as hell grateful for this because I'd otherwise never get this achievement!!

Still works as of 9/4/22. Just have to be quick to time the pause right when you are hitting the ring. Took me two tries. Thumbs up

Great video and yes I just did it and it works no problem took me 3 tries the tough part is hitting start before you actually end the level by hitting the ring, thanks.

I just did this a few days ago. Took a few tries but works perfect, thanks! What seemed to work better for me was to stand closer to the goal ring and jump, press x and immediately press start. That way you don't have to time it and your more likely to get it right.

For this achievement you must complete the Arid Sands Act 1 (Shamar) as Sonic in 2m 50s.

My only suggestions would be to make sure you learn the map, when and where to jump etc.. it helps running through it slowly to learn the layout.

Look for shortcuts or routes that help you progress further... quicker. Jumping at the right moment, light dashing, breaking certain things to reveal hidden ramps/springs. All these things will come in handy throughout the level.

And secondly, wherever possible keep the X button pressed to A) go faster and B) to reach higher places using ramps etc... Everyone I know thinks the X button must be tapped to gain a speed boost but if you hold it down you can run twice as fast!

Here's a few tips to get you through the level. Also, I would recommend doing this achievement after getting all the medals in the stage, so you have a good idea of the shortcuts.

These are in the order you'll encounter them.

1) Take the top paths at all times. Most rails above the streets are shorter than boosting on the ground, so use those to your advantage.

2) Do not attempt to drift around the 2nd market. You can either take a hard left just before it to hit some hidden boosters or you can boost forward, hitting some boosters that will direct you where you need to go.

3) During the straight stretch before the desert, look for a ramp on your right. This will let you skip a bit, putting you a bit before the low wall.

4) After you slide under a pillar and grind on a looping rail, jump off said rail and hopefully you should hit some red rings that'll let you skip a platforming section.

5) LEARN THE PILLAR AREAS! These are run-ending stretches, so be careful.

6) Use the jump pads. The first one is always X, but the second one alternates between X and A, so watch for that.

7) Hit the rainbow ring in the middle of the ruins. It saves a bunch of time.

One last thing, do not forget that the stomp move cancels MOST forward momentum, not all. If used after boosting off a ramp, you still will go forward, so keep that in mind.
If you know the layout and follow these tips, you'll get it in no time.

You could be issued a speeding ticket in real life...

...but not in this game which you must beat arid sands act 1 day within 2:50. Achievement/trophy pops if the target time is less than 2:50.

Self-explanatory...learn how to use the shortcuts and when you're ready, go for it. You must take almost all the shortcuts in this stage with no mistakes in order to net this trophy. Make sure Sonic (Hedgehog form) is upgraded to the maximum to make things easier (credit to SonicJGB for the video):

Complete the Arid Sands Act 1 as Sonic in less than 2min 50sec. Keep Boosting at every possible time. There's a video at the bottom.

There seems to be a way to glitch this also, if you're really struggling. Found here.

The only thing I can say is that you MUST pump up Sonic’s speed to the maximum, speed up wherever you can afford it, look for the fastest paths, a little practice and everything will work out.
