How to unlock the The Token Experience achievement in South Park: The Fractured but Whole - Definitive Guide

Edit - Due to the amount of people who mistakenly completed the game on Diabolical and did not get the achievement. I'm putting this before the guide as to hopefully prevent people from doing this. - DO NOT COMPLETE THE GAME ON DIABOLICAL - I repeat, DO N.O.T complete it on Diabolical. Do it on Mastermind as the achievement itself suggests. This game does not count lower difficulties like most games do.

You must create a black skinned character from the beginning of the game. You CANNOT change this later and still get the achievement. There is a time early on in the game when you select your combat difficulty, this is the time to select Mastermind. Do not change it back until you have beaten the game and unlock the achievement.

Some tips.
- Don't be afraid to complete this game in one playthrough, you can change difficulty after end game.
- Stock up on Moses summons, always have at least 2 with you. And revives!
- After unlocking the ability to use moves from all classes, make use of the psychics ultimate healing ability, as well as the other minor healing ability. They are pretty much essential when dealing with the last few bosses. At that point, think of your main character as a healer, not a fighter.
I AM CULLY pointed out that you can use your summon's 10x each during a play through.

I can confirm that if you change the difficulty to Mastermind when asked around the fight with the 6th graders you will get this achievement.

I started the game with making my character black and selecting the Heroic difficulty, I then changed to the Mastermind difficulty when it prompted me to around the fight with the 6th Graders.

Thank you so much Pvt Jr Grif!! I just had a freakout. I went to look and saw my difficulty was only Heroic and I swear it did not ask me yet, which i guess it hs not. Thanks I was about to another playthrough. Thanks again.

i have 34/35 for this game. going to start another play through for this. In the middle of the game you can change your race/gender and all of that. If i change it to white do i lose the achievement?

If you just do main story, how long roughly would this achievement take to get?

Symbiiance, I am not sure, I have only done one play through and I focused on finding every item/friend and 100% total completion, most of which weren't related to achievements so my play through was much longer lol

By Project Torture on 02 Nov 2017 06:43
To answer Symbiiance's question, the game is still decently long while playing through just the story missions. I'm at the second last major fight and I have about 9 and a half hours played on that save, and that's just strictly doing story missions and skipping every cutscene on mastermind. So I'd say maybe 10-12 hours depending on your skill if you're just doing the story missions and skipping cutscenes.

Is it feasible to begin playing this game and go for this achievement first?
Is it too hard for a first play through?
Or is it recommended to play through once, unlock all other achievements, familiarize yourself with the game, and then do this difficulty last?

E vee, it's not difficult to do this (and all other achievements) in one playthrough. I recommend doing it all in one playthrough to save time.

Thanks for the answer but I didn't come back and look at this until later. I just played through the whole game on easy and got every achievement except for this one. This game was hilarious but I'm not sure I'm willing to go through those battles again. It takes so long deciding how to attack. It's a great game though.

For some reason I'm playing through the game again on the hardest difficulty as a dark-skinned character anyway. So far I have not had any issues but I can tell a difference in the battles. I am much faster collecting and fast warping around the map as I'm more familiar of where to go, what to do, and what to look for. You still have to find everything to level up your character to survive the more difficult battles.

Achievement unlocked.
1000/1000G for "E vee dub" in South Park The Fractured But Whole on Dec 15th, 2017 (same day I saw Star Wars VIII: The Last Jedi).
Playing through a second time definitely used more time but it was much easier when you know the mechanics of the game and battles and especially which teammates to have with you.

I changed the race identity to white when asked by PC principal, so I'll let you all know if it messes with the achievement.

Second run through, picked black character, picked Mastermind before sixth graders fight, did not pop. Going to options menu and checked difficulty, it's still Mastermind. Frustrating... great game though

Played this game through again to get the achievement, played as a black character all the way through with mastermind being chosen before the 6th graders and I've just finished and no achievement, going to have to play it again but do it right at the begining and see if that does it, I might uninstall and install again as through the whole game the achievement was on 6% to reset it. Might go and finish the next gen SP TSOT before that. There's no glitched achievements on that game

Okay so I guess there was an update that added a tracker to this achievement and its still going up for me. Picking your race identity doesn't seem void the achievement. I'll update again once I beat the game, but it all looks good so far.

When going for this, be certain to make multiple saves every time it shifts from daytime to nighttime. This will help when the Game inevitable glitches achievements. Saved me 5-6 hours of time when “unmissable” story achievements didn’t pop. Expect this achievement to take 20~25 hours if in your first play through. It’s easily obtainable from the beginning on your 1st playthru

I chose mastermind before the fight of the very first encounter of 6th graders (where before enter the house of super Craig), is too late for selecting the difficulty or it's still fine? The tracker is currently at 4%

Like GeorgeSamo and iBeatStuffUp, I played the whole game as a black character on Mastermind difficulty. Even checked the difficulty in the menus multiple times. My achievement progress tracker never moved beyond 6%. Was there something I did when I was 6% of the way through the story that glitched the achievement progress? I think I'm going to play the DLC as a break and then try the whole story a second time. I'm hoping it will be much faster now that I don't have to search everywhere for collectibles.

Any ideas about what causes this achievement not to work right?
I'm not sure of anything you can do to screw it up besides changing your skin color maybe? As I had no issues doing this game I don't have any experience in that department. However, Xbox has been having some problems as of late. That may be a problem. Good luck.

Yeah definitely buggy, my progress stopped at 6% on my first playthrough too. Started new playthrough and hit 7% just after the fight with the 6th graders where you choose the difficulty. Would recommend people check the tracker to make sure it is still going up

Just got the achievement, and fighting your past self was literally impossible for me. I spent nearly 6 hours trying to fight him and everyone else. I actually ended up getting the achievement by switching combat difficulties as soon as the fight starts and as soon as the last enemy is defeated or the special objective is done, I quickly paused and switched the combat difficulty back to mastermind. After the past fight, I was able to progress through the rest of the game and got the achievement after waiting a few seconds after skipping the credits.

I beat the game on the hardest difficulty then went achievement hunting, im now doung another on mastermind which is easier just to get the achievement, at least i can skip all the cutscenes and have the dlc content to make it easier, i went into the menu as soon as i got off the first toilet so wish me luck that it doesn't glitch out on me

i am about to get this achivement too @81chaz too all i have to do is the final boss. i have to agree with you on this too. everybody who comments on getting this achievement says the Christmas critters are the hardest boss in the game. but they are not the hardest.
that would be your past self. because unlike them where you fight them all at once and they only took me one try and 15 mins to beat them. you have to fight your past self and all the minions separately and then fight them all together and it took me 4 tries and 3 and half hours to beat them

Does anyone know how often the tracker goes up for this achievement? It was tracking fine until 35% but now I have done a few quests and it hasn’t moved. Does it go up per quest completed or per in game day? Any help is appreciated :)

Just FYI, you can only use 10 of each type of summon in your whole playthrough. You can check how many used and left from your character sheet (summons tab).

Also, at the end game I switched up my character based on what I was fighting. I used plantmaster bleed+knockback ability against multiple characters. It has huge range and knocks them back. The plantmasters heal is also a good AoE heal. I used call girls Enrage+Shield ability against Mutant Kyle and it protected all my other characters. Tupperware is decent too (also he has the highest HP of all characters).

Against single characters, I went with strong single point hitting characters (preferably with shields) like Call Girl and Tupperware.

The only boss I had difficulty with in the whole playthrough was Shub-Niggurath. In that fight, I used characters that had mobility and knockback. Plantmancers huge Bleed+knockback power worked really well here. Also Mysterio, Captain Diabetes and The Coon's attacks where they can get on the opposite side of the enemies were really good here.

Simply start the game and create a black character when asked (when picking a skin color, slide all the way to the right for the darkest). As far as difficulty, some people say to wait till the first fight of the game with the 6th graders, I changed it right away as soon as I got control of my character - to do this, access the Pause Menu via the Options button, go to Combat and choose Mastermind (with the current patch level there is now a level higher than Mastermind available, you do not need to pick it).

Very important: do not touch this setting again for the remainder of the game! Trophy popped for me after the credits (there are two credit rolls, trophy will pop after the second/last credit roll).

I wish I had read this before starting. I can confirm you have to change the combat diff as soon as you start, before any fights. Not when you are prompted at the 6th graders. Had to play the entire game again.

I think I had the same problem. Completed the game with black/mastermind never changed. Never got the trophy. I am also paranoid that the DLC messed with it. I'll try again without DLC and changing difficulty immediately.

**WHEN THE GAME STARTS CHOOSE A BLACK CHARACTER FIRST**

Pretty easy achievement to get if you completed the game on normal before... the difficulty is very forgiving less hard than you think, you get a lot of artifacts and DNA that stay with you in the new game you start so you have good might while starting the game making the first half of the game super easy and quick.

Remember how the bosses pattern work and choose your team accordingly when fighting them.

The From Dusk Till Casa Bonita gives you the Necromancer class which i used all the way from the start and the end of the game it's very overpowered and ---)
Henrietta buddy from the From Dusk Till Casa Bonita DLC is very VERY useful especially near the endgame bosses and the last boss so i recommend buying this DLC.

I would complete the game on normal to get all the achievements and then start a new game on mastermind for the sole purpose of doing this achievement. Remember setting the difficulty on mastermind as soon as you can (I did it when i was at the very first toilet scene (as the king) of the game just pause and select mastermind before leaving the bathroom)

Did it in about 15 hours so it's not a quick achievement to get but not too long either,

MISSABLE

When you start the game and are creating your character, it will ask you what difficulty you wish to use to which you will want to move the bar all the way to the right so you are black (very difficult). Later on when you first fight the group of sixth graders blocking the path to Downtown South Park, it will give you an option of what type of combat challenge you wish to have. Make sure that you select Mastermind from the list. After making those decisions, don't change them at any time for the remainder of the game or it will lock you out from getting the trophy during that playthrough. Now just playthrough the main quest of the game normally while being black and under mastermind difficulty and when you finish it, the trophy will pop. It's also possible to miss out on this by changing your race and ethnicity when talking to PC Principle during his questline so save before talking to him.

Update: With the addition of the new Diabolic difficulty level into the game with one of the latest updates, you can still get this trophy by choosing it as well, Mastermind is just the MINIMUM level you must play and beat the game with to achieve it. It is still advised that you play Mastermind to get it as it will be the easiest method.

0
0

At the start of the game, you will create your character. Be sure to move the skin tone slider all the way to the right to create a Black character when prompted. Then, as soon as you get control of your character, pause and change the difficulty to Mastermind from the menus. You must do this before any of the tutorial fights! From there, just complete the game.

The difficulty can be changed at any time in the menu, and you can edit your skin tone at Crunchy's Micro Brew as well, so be sure to do neither of those things until you unlock this achievement. This is the only missable achievement in the game, but you'd have to go out of your way to mess it up assuming you set things up correctly in the beginning.

0
0
At the beginning of the game, create a black character (when choosing skin color, slide the slider all the way to the right) and select the "Mastermind" difficulty in the pause menu before the first battle begins. Complete the game without changing skin color or reducing combat difficulty.

The difficulty of the battle does not have to be changed before the first battles, they are educational. The game itself will prompt you to make a choice at the first encounter with sixth-graders. Combat difficulty: Guru.

The game offered to choose a difficulty level for 6th graders, where Diabolical is the maximum. We still choose the Guru (we can choose earlier, for example, as soon as we are given control of the hero) - the character is black to the maximum. The difficulty of the battle increases compared to medium-easy, but not much - it’s still comfortable to play. I lost literally a couple of battles on Guru, but passed without any problems on the second try. And save often and check the difficulty level (that it’s not lost).

For the trophy you need exactly “GURU”, not “Diabolical”, otherwise you won’t get it, i.e. we need the penultimate difficulty of the game, not the last one

The skin tone is black, before the first battle with the sixth graders we set the difficulty to guru (do not change the difficulty level). You will receive the trophy at the end of the game when you appear at the road sign near your house (game day of the week is Saturday)

Just in case, set the difficulty at the very beginning of the game as soon as you are given control. Don’t wait for the battle with the sixth graders, you can skip it and enter another battle, then it turns out that before the battle with them you had already played at a different difficulty level (medium) and only then changed it, they may not let you.

Personally, I advise you to first beat “your” hero on any difficulty, and then, when you get all the achievements, beat the new game as a black man on the “Guru” difficulty.

In general, it goes without problems.
The difficulty was in the first fight with Mitch and with himself from the past.
As a result, most of the game was played by the following team: Call Girl, Mosquito, Kite and the GG himself. One of the GG's abilities - two moves in a row - often helped out. Ulta - resurrection. Another ability with bleeding. With this set everything goes smoothly.

This hint is unfortunately true, I completed the entire game on the devilish one and the achievement did not appear. I played as Blackman and changed the difficulty right away. The result is emptiness.
