When it comes to getting onto the upper level in the one room, instead of stacking the boxes on the switch, run over to the bridge controls and move the bridge to the middle of the room. This allows you to use your boxes on the stuff that was under the bridge to climb up. I found it a whole lot less awkward than the switch method, which I was unable to do within about 20 minutes of failed attempts and reloads.
