How to unlock the I'm Doing My Part achievement in Space Engineers - Definitive Guide

APRIL 15, 2020 EDIT: This solution has been updated, as I have worked out a faster method of completing waves. Additionally, I couldn't guarantee the previous method will count towards your 1000 drone kills for the Scrap Delivery achievement

Note: The achievement description is wrong and this will actually pop after 30 waves in a single game save. Also the trackers don't seem to be working at the moment but the achievement will still pop when it should.

This can be done relatively easily in a creative game along with a little help from the in-game admin panel, which can be opened by pressing cn_RB+cn_Y simultaneously, so long as you are the host of the game or you've been promoted to admin of the game you are in.

The first thing I recommend doing is heading to the Workshop from the main menu and finding yourself a ship you like that has a lot of defenses built into it, I personally used "Gunship" created by the user "XXANGRYWALNUT". Having a pre-built ship like this that you can simply spawn into the world will help speed up the process of knocking this and all other related achievements out.

Once this is done you can then start a new game in the Never Surrender scenario and switch the game type to creative. To switch from survival to creative you will first have to load up a game as normal then save and quit, back at the main menu when you go to load your game you can press cn_X to edit your game's settings and choose to play in creative mode. This will allow you to be invulnerable and have infinite resources, as well as your turret defenses will not need to be reloaded.

Once you have spawned in you can open the admin panel (cn_RB+cn_Y) and use the drop down menu to select "Entity list", from here you should see a location titled "Platform A". Select that from the list and and use the option at the bottom of the screen to "teleport here". Press cn_B to back out of spectator mode and you should now be at the station with the beacon you must protect. If the beacon is destroyed the waves will end and you will have to start a new game or reload a previous save, though you shouldn't have to worry too much using this method.

As you arrive to Platform A you will only have a few minutes before waves of drones begin to spawn so the first thing you will want to do is place your gunship(s) that you downloaded from the workshop, these can be accessed using cn_RB+cn_B. Place them so they are in between the station and Earth, about 200-300 meters out, as this is where the drones will be coming from. Your gunship's defenses should be automated so long as the ship has power and will be doing all the work for you, so you shouldn't have to interact with them much apart from that. These ships are a great start for the early waves, however probably not viable in the long run, especially if you plan on going for the Scrap Delivery achievement. So while your ships are taking down drones for you I would recommend you also start spending your time fortifying the platform with the beacon with heavy armored blocks and more turrets. Its really up to you how you choose to do this so let your imagination run wild, and once you have gotten your base set up this can then be your primary means of defense if you so choose.

From here all that's left to do now is wait, rounds will generally take around 5 minutes each, including loading times in between waves. Just be sure to keep up with repairs as necessary and save your game at least every few rounds or so. If repairs start getting too overwhelming you could also always just delete your ship from the entity list in the admin panel and respawn it in between rounds. Once you have successfully survived 30 waves the achievement will be yours, not 100 like the description suggests.

Along the way you will also unlock the following achievements for completing 10 rounds...
Space EngineersI See Dead DronesKawiNinjaRider7The I See Dead Drones achievement in Space Engineers worth 134 points(Locked) Survive 10 waves of drones in Never Surrender scenario.

As well as this one for completing 30 rounds, though the achievement will actually pop after 20
Space EngineersBring It OnKawiNinjaRider7The Bring It On achievement in Space Engineers worth 180 points(Locked) Survive 30 waves of drones in Never Surrender scenario.

Additionally, if you played through 10 rounds (it must be the first 10 waves, so waves 1-10) with at least one other player you will unlock
Space EngineersJoint OperationKawiNinjaRider7The Joint Operation achievement in Space Engineers worth 397 points(Locked) Survive 10 waves with at least 1 other player in Never Surrender scenario.

And eventually once 1000 drones are destroyed (after approximately 170 rounds) you will unlock
Space EngineersScrap DeliveryKawiNinjaRider7The Scrap Delivery achievement in Space Engineers worth 845 points(Locked) Destroy 1000 pirate drones in Never Surrender scenario.

Edit: As HolloFox has pointed out you could also create a safe zone around your beacon if you wish. This will keep drones from even coming near your base though it will need to be powered and be up kept with zone chips in order for it to function.

You can create a safe zone around your beacon if you want so you don't have to worry about repairs.

For the 1000 pirate drones, do we know if it has to be done in one sitting? Or if its cumulative?

Not sure as no one has unlocked it yet. I read for the Steam achievement it takes 168 waves in order to get the 1000 drones though. I completed roughly 10 waves or so on my first playthrough before messing up and having to start over and I'm currently at wave 115 at the time of writing this. So I'll update this solution later once I do finally pop the achievement with what wave it popped for me and it should be able to tell us if it has to be in a single game or not 👍

Solution has been updated as I could not confirm that the method of deleting drones would count towards your Scrap Delivery achievement, got up to wave 175 last night and no achievement. Please give the edited solution a read through, takes a little bit of set up in the beginning but after that its actually a bit faster completing waves. Sorry for any inconvenience this may have caused.

When I spawn the gunships, they aren't targeting the drones. I'm giving the ships batteries so they are on, but still won't target.

Are you playing in creative? Not just creative tools enabled, but the world itself set to creative? The ship I mentioned in the solution had no power in survival mode and would have to be refueled, though it should work just fine in creative mode as soon as you spawn it in.

I don't see the option to start Never Surrender in creative mode.

Great solution! What I have done now, since the ship for always drifts off and I'm trying to find a way to AFK this, I turned the meteor the beacon is on into a giant cube with Heavy Armor Blocks, and placed a ton of Missile Turrets on it. I'm almost on Wave 30 so far and haven't had any issues and haven't had to repair anything yet. It took a long while to set up, but seems worth it.

Here's the save, just wait from 28 to 30 and should pop (feel free to add to your awesome guide)

Not sure if it's been mentioned or not in the comments but since the guide suggests waves take 5 minutes each I wanted to point out that there is a button panel inside the facility that allows you to start the next wave early, so you dont have to wait the extra 2 minutes between waves once the last one ends

Just a few tips and some edits needed for this. There is a much easier way to do this and all it takes is time and waiting. I did all this in one swoop by starting the game and then enabling creative tools, untargetable, and invulnerable. From there I flew straight to the Space Base starting in the space pod. From here I surrounded the base with turrets *8 and missile launchers *2 and the ammo and whatever I would just spawn in and refill as needed every few rounds. When done correctly you can just go in the base and sit in the chair only coming out every 2 rounds or so to check on any repairs and to refill ammo. The only part that was tedious was the waiting. Once the defenses are setup its just a wait game and then once the achievements pop you can move on.

Start a game of Never Surrender, as soon as it loads you can save and quit then back at the main menu when you go to load your save you can click X to edit the world setting, from there you can switch the game over to creative mode. Hope that helps, will add this into the solution too

That's true yeah, the ships are a good way to get started right off the bat but yeah I too have been having issues with them drifting, and have also adopted the strategy of turning the asteroid into a fortress of turrets lol. Currently on wave 260+ since the original strategy of deleting drones didn't work so I should hopefully be unlocking the Scrap Delivery achievement around the 340 mark laugh
