To recruit Nyan, you need to complete the mission "What Lurks in the Forest".
Mission requirements: The Malimar Knights are destroyed.
Recruitment requirements: Complete the mission.
Once you have unlocked the mission, simply complete it by defeating all enemies, including Nyan. You can wait for each wave of enemies and defeat them in turn, or you can just charge up to Nyan and defeat him. Either way, once you have completed the mission, Nyan will join your party.
The achievement will unlock after you have saved your game.
