How to unlock the Awakened achievement in Spelunky 2 - Definitive Guide

Reaching the Cosmic Ocean isn't very different than just beating regular old Hundun, it's just a tiny bit spicier. So, if you haven't already beaten Hundun or don't know how to do that, then go check out that guide first and then come back to this one later.

So, in essence, getting to the Cosmic Ocean is easy, all you have to do is shoot a defeated Hundun in the eye with the arrow of light while using Hou Yi's Bow. So let's break that down. First, you need to get to Hundun and beat him, that means grabbing that Udjat Eye from the first level, and getting a crown or headpiece from the second level. But also, you need to pick up Hou Yi's Bow from the second level, this is one of two parts that is different but essential to get to Cosmic Ocean. Hou Yi's Bow can be found in the lower level of the Moon Challenge which is given by Tun in either 2-2, 2-3, or 2-4. Give her 10k, go inside the challenge, and start digging with the mattock until you find the bow. Great, now you have this bow and you get to very conveniently carry it around with you and progress through the levels.

Luckily, this is where Waddler comes in. You only need to carry the bow until you get to Olmec. On the first floor of the Olmec fight, if you bomb down with two bombs in the bottom right corner, you will find a doorway that leads to Waddler. Waddler can hold on to 2 items. Leave the bow with him and we'll come back for it later.

Now progress through the rest of the game normally as if you're trying to beat Hundun. Grab the Ankh, then the tablet, find Qillin, ride it up to Sunken City.

Okay, now here is where things are slightly different again. First things first, you need to find Waddler again. On the way up to the door on 7-1, you should find an entrance to a cave, this is Waddler's last stop, so grab anything you gave him, namely the bow.

Now you need to do the Sun Challenge. Most of the time this can also be found on 7-1 but if you don't see it, don't panic, very rarely the Sun Challenge is on 7-2 or 7-3, it will always appear somewhere in the 7th world but never 7-4. The Sun Challenge is pretty easy, I'm sure there is a guide for it already but basically just jump to the closest corner, whip the enemy that just fell out of the shoot, place a sticky bomb on the shoot OR place two bombs on the top of the regen blocks where the enemy just was and then retreat to stand on top of the frog trap, just out of range of the other frog trap that is now trying to kill you. Wait there until time is up and grab the arrow of light and of course the 24 bombs and ropes on your way out.

Make sure the bow does not already have an arrow on it, if so just shoot it off, and then walk over the arrow while holding the empty bow and your character will attach it to the bow.

Now just carry the bow through the rest of the 7th world. When fighting Hundun, you have to carry the bow with the arrow all the way to the top of level while he is chasing you, one of the harder parts of the run. Just stay calm, drop the bow to whip the regen blocks when you have to, use ropes to trigger poison arrow traps, use a bomb if you have to. Safely put the bow and arrow at the very top of the level and then defeat Hundun as usual. After he is dead, grab the bow and arrow, drop down to where you are level with his eye and shoot the eye. A big vortex will form and start deleting the regen blocks so don't stand too close right away or the floor will vanish from underneath you. Jump into the portal and you have now entered the Cosmic Ocean.

This trophy requires a ridiculous amount of steps, most of which are covered in the Pilgrim trophy_silver.pngtrophy_secret.png and
Master trophy_gold.pngtrophy_secret.png sections. The added step here is that you will have to take the bow from the Moon Challenge, all the way to the end of the Sunken City, grabbing the Arrow of Light from the Sun Challenge on your way.

The Moon challenge can be found anywhere in the second area (see Excavator trophy_bronze.pngtrophy_secret.png for more information on the Moon Challenge). Somewhere in the challenge, a special bow is hidden inside a 1 by 1 open segment. If you are careful with your pickaxe uses, you should be able to find the bow but if you’re unlucky, you might have to spend a few bombs to get it. Note you will need the specific bow from the Moon Challenge: you can’t just buy a crossbow from a shop. Next, you will have to carry the bow to the Sunken City (you only need the bow itself, don’t worry if you lose the arrow along the way). The problem with this is that you have to also carry either Excalibur or the Sceptre for at least a floor to enter the Sunken City. Seeing as you can only exit a level with one item at a time, you will have to use a special method to transport Hou-Yi’s bow to the Sunken City. In Olmec’s Lair, you can find a secret room, containing a large, friendly, slimy creature called Waddler. Waddler provides the special service of carrying an item for you through the caves, meaning that you can drop off the bow here and pick it up later in the Sunken City. You can find Waddler’s room by bombing the right side of the 1st stage of the Olmec fight. Two well placed bombs should open the secret entrance, marked by either a grass block or a metal block. Simply drop the bow on the purple pedestals in front of Waddler and you will be good to go. If you have trouble finding Waddler, you can see him on the to the right side, near the top of the subspace where you pick up the Ankh, to get an idea of his location.

*It should be noted that there is currently a bug, which makes Waddler angry with you if blow up the entrance with a big bomb from the Power Pack. If you’re carrying a Power Pack at this point, simply unequip it (by pressing dpad_down.png+ l1.png) before bombing into Waddler’s shop and equip it again later.

The next time you will see Waddler will be in the Sunken City (Waddler can also be found in the Ice Caves but you don’t want to pick the bow up there, since you will later have to carry the Ushabti). Waddler‘s store will always appear on 7-1, designated by a green cave entrance.

Next you will have to find the Arrow of Light, which will be your reward for clearing the Sun Challenge. Be aware that the Sun Challenge can be incredibly dangerous and is likely to kill you if you’re not prepared. See Survivor trophy_gold.pngtrophy_secret.png for more information on the Sun Challenge. Since you only need the arrow, it may be easier to kill Tun and steal the arrow, although she will come back every level and try to kill you. Also note that you will have to clear the Sun Challenge eventually for the Survivor trophy_gold.pngtrophy_secret.png trophy. After clearing the Challenge or killing Tun, you can draw the arrow into Hou-Yi’s bow simply by walking over it, like you would a regular arrow. This will be a powerful weapon for the rest of the run, capable of killing most enemies in one hit. Be very careful not to lose either the arrow or the bow though, especially to the pink regenerating blocks found throughout the Sunken City. After making it to Hundun, beat him like you would regularly. Consider using bombs instead of the arrow, as to not lose it later, although this is optional. After he is beaten and sits down with its eye open, shoot him with the arrow, which will open up a portal. Jump in and you will find yourself in the Cosmic Ocean, the final, hardest and by far the longest area of the game, netting you this trophy.

Note that for the Platinum, you will also need to complete the Journal Entry for the Cosmic Jelly, which requires you to collect three orbs in the first level of the Cosmic Ocean (this is required before you can exit the floor so you can’t miss it). Make sure you don’t die or exit before doing this, as you will have to repeat all steps again to get back there. Apart from this, you won’t have to do anything in the Cosmic Ocean so after grabbing this entry, you won’t have to go back there.

This is one of the hardest trophies in the game. I will list the most convenient procedure with mandatory and optional steps.

- Level 1-2 or 1-3 - find the eye of Udjat (optional - in Vulcan you can get to Vlad’s castle using bombs).
- Level 2-2, 2-3 or 2-4 - Beaver's lunar test (required - you need to find a magic bow).
- Level 2-2, 2-3 or 2-4 - pick up the crown in Vlad’s castle (optional - Kinga can be killed without Excalibur or even not killed at all).
- Level 3-1 - get an Ankh (optional, but preferably as an extra life - to get to the secret level of Abzu, you can do without dying or not go there at all).
- Level 4-2 - get Excalibur (optional - already written above).
- Level 4-3 - get to Abzu and kill Kinga to get the Slab of Fate (optional - I already wrote above).
- Level 6-2 - find the desired statue of Ushabti (optional - you can do without Quilin).
- Level 6-3 - get Quilin (optional).
- Level 6-4 - go upstairs through laser protection (required - either with the help of Quilin or in a roundabout way - the easiest way is with the help of a jetpack).
- Level 7-1, 7-2 or 7-3 - Beaver's solar test (required - you need to pass it and get an arrow of light).
- Level 7-4 - kill Handun and shoot an arrow of light from a magic bow into his eye to open a portal to the Cosmic Ocean (required).
