How to unlock the Made It achievement in Spelunky - Definitive Guide

You are allowed to use shortcuts to unlock this achievement. Shortcuts allow you to skip to a different world. If you use a shortcut and die, you start at the beginning of that world, instead of the Mines. To get shortcuts, you have to play Single Player. When you beat the 4th level in either the Mines, Jungle, or Ice Caves, you meet Tunnel Man. If you give him the supplies he needs, you will get a shortcut (when you unlock a shortcut, you can also use it in Co-op).

Below are the items that Tunnel Man needs for each shortcut:

Shortcut to the Jungle: 1 bomb for the first visit, 1 rope for the second visit, $10000 for the third visit.

Shortcut to the Ice Caves: 2 bombs for the first visit, 2 ropes for the second visit, Shotgun for the third visit.

Shortcut to the Temple: 3 bombs for the first visit, 3 ropes for the second visit, the golden key from the Mines for the third visit.

To use a shortcut, start Adventure (do not enter the Mines), then go all the way to the left. Climb the ladder, then go left and you'll see your shortcut(s).

You need to complete the three stages of the temple and beat the Olmec to finish the game.

You can use the shortcut, the achievement will pop.
Ennemies are strong here, be careful !
Avoid them and go down fast to keep your four lifepoints.
Keep your equipement (bombs and ropes) to beat the Olmec.

I take no credit for the below information. I was having trouble with Olmec, and I searched the internet and came across this site, it has some useful tips and a quick 56 second video on beating Olmec, which might help when you try to beat the game under 8 mins. I do recommend playing from the beginning each time (to gain equipment), I prefer moving Olmec away and bombing the hole he will plunge himself into, but that was because I was going to Hell for King Yama achievement.

*Once again, not my information, just a reference for those playing this game.

This achievement will unlock once you have completed the 3 stages of the 'Temples' level and defeated the boss Olmec. You can use the shortcut to start at the Temples and this achievement will still unlock.

If you are having trouble clearing the Temple, read these tips:

Monsters:

  • Mummies: If one is coming towards you and you have no other way around it, you can place a bomb in front of it so it falls through. You can use its head as a platform.
  • Anubis: Their attacks can go through terrain and will kill you in one hit. Avoiding them entirely is smart, but it is possible to kill them with weapons. That will take some effort though. You can try to get them in front of a tiki trap, which will kill them.
  • Olmec: For the fight against Olmec you will want some ropes and/or climbing gloves. A jetpack will help too This is because you need to get him to fall into the lava below the stage and you'll have to get down low for him to die. He will smash the ground when you are underneath him, so one popular strategy is to go underneath him, then quickly run just a block out of his way. Then run back under and out 1 block each time he comes up. You repeat this process until he's got one block between him and lava. Get ropes sent up or be ready to jump to the wall if you have climbing gloves. Now carefully make your way to the exit on the right side of the stage, avoiding the few enemies as you go.

Traps:

  • Crush Trap: If you dodge it, don't think you're in the clear quite yet. You are most likely in a position where it will still come after you, so make sure you aren't straight across from any side of it.

See Ice Creamed for information on the Temple shortcut.
