How exactly does chapter select work? Shaman staff 19 did not save and I can't backtrack. Going to chapter select does nothing, it just takes me back to the title screen. Do I need to actually finish the game to use chapter select?
Edit: To get chapter select to work I had to delete my save from console first then chapter select is available and I got the missing spirit in chapter 5, then delete save from console again and chapter select level 7.

This Achievement is gained by releasing all 28 Shaman Spirits across Chapters 1-6 of the game. To free the Shaman Spirit you need to find the Shaman Staff first and then drop it beside the Shaman's body. First off, this achievement must be completed before you can obtain the 2nd and final collection achievement Kindred Spirits in Chapter 7:

Without using a guide and spending a lot of time wandering around I found 25 of 28 Shaman Spirits on my first playthrough (although my count was reset in Chapter 6, see more on this below) and only Chapter 4 had some pretty well hidden Shaman and Chapters 4 and 5 are the longest levels with 7 and 9 Shaman to those levels alone.
There are several video guides for this and below is the one I used. All credit to the author which wasn't me:
Very few cuts and shows the entire game can be completed in under 3 hours.
Chapter breakdown:
Chapter 1 = 3 Shaman
Chapter 2 = 2 Shaman
Chapter 3 = 3 Shaman
Chapter 4 = 7 Shaman
Chapter 5 = 9 Shaman
Chapter 6 = 4 Shaman
Chapter 7 = 28 Kindred Spirits (3 are at the end and cannot be missed)
Collecting both Shaman and Kindred Spirits can be done in multiple Chapter playthroughs using Chapter select.
To check your Shaman collection use the Level Select menu and hover over the Chapters. You can always back out and use Continue to progress from where you last exited the game.
Now, I want to point out a specific issue that reset my entire Shaman collection and caused me to have to replay the game a second time. At the beginning of Chapter 6 I had all but one of the prior chapters completed. I quit to the game menu and then to Xbox home. Signed out of my Xbox account and then back in again (Game Pass Rewards were not unlocking). Went back to the game (never closed it) and was prompted to press A to sign in and selected Continue from the main game menu. Proceeded to collect the first Shaman on Chapter 6 and immediately noticed it was marked as the first Shaman collected. This may not be reproducible nor should you try but you've been warned. Quit the game completely if you are going to sign out of your Xbox account.
