These are required for story progression. They are the small stones that have pictures and rotate when you bark at them. Usually there is a set of 2-3 that all have to be matched to the right combination of the top and bottom pictures. The top picture is fixed and during a single level the bottom picture it matches with seems to remain the same. Usually you will have seen a combination before (e.g. humans carrying rectangular stones matches with mountains that have stacks of rectangular stones and humans dancing matches with a picture of a spirit fox). Matching a set of them all will make them glow and usually open a door or tunnel.

None of these can be missed and you should get your final set either at the end of Chapter 5 or early in Chapter 6.
