There is no absolute sure-fire way of doing this outside of luck and playing more matches but what I have seen help is rushing towards the center of the map or weapon pickups towards the middle asap upon spawning and being quick on the trigger.
A couple good modes:
ShottySnipes: Your sniper will 1 shot an opponent if you land a headshot while watching for your first opponent
Swat: All headshots will 1 hit kill your enemies if you land a headshot so the same idea
You will know if you got first blood because it will show up as a medal upon receiving the kill.

Nope, custom play does not work for any achievement, sorry
