This solution will provide a text guide for the locations of all 47 cakes. Each level contains one cake (excluding the three boss levels).
Cakes 1-15:
1-1
After using an explosive barrel to wall jump up a shaft, you’ll have an option to go left or right. Head left and wall jump to reach the floating cake.
1-2
After super-jumping across the pool of acid, head back the way you came and the cake is below the end of the walkway.
1-3
After reaching the large room with a turret, rather than using the explosive barrel to head right, use it to reach a platform to the left. Triple jump up the wall to reach the cake.
1-4
After reaching the large room with three spinning wheels, break through the pane of glass on the floor in front of you to reach a room with the cake.
1-5
After using two super-jump barrels in succession, you’ll break through some glass panes. Quickly explode the scientist before he’s able to pull the switch, then jump up the three platforms to reach the cake.
1-6
Before exiting the level, head left to the two green containers. Use one to jump off the wall and reach the area above with the cake.
1-7
After using moving platforms to avoid lasers and crossing an acid pool, continue wall jumping up instead of heading right. Continue heading up and use the super-jump barrel to reach the area with the cake.
1-8
After reaching a scientist and a super-jump barrel encased in glass, explode the scientist and jump across. Explode the next scientist and continue upward. Explode the third scientist encased in glass and jump across. Explode the fourth scientist and jump down to the right. When falling you should see blue arrows pointing up, try to fall to the right of these arrows to land on the platform with the cake.
1-9
After reaching a spinning wheel above a death pit, continue along the platforms until you reach an exploding barrel. Use this barrel to wall jump up and instead of continuing to the right, continue jumping up with another exploding barrel to reach an area to the left to find the cake.
1-10
After reaching a scientist encased in glass, continue upward to the left rather than going right. Use the super-jump barrels to go from wall to wall and you’ll eventually jump to the cake.
1-11
After passing the third sentinel section, you’ll come to an area with four platforms to jump across in close proximity. Jump down after the third platform and slightly right to reach a platform with the cake. You’ll then have to quickly jump up the platforms to avoid dying.
1-12
In the first area, jump to the second spinning wheel and wait until you’re at its highest point. Then jump up the wall to the left to reach the area with the cake.
1-13
In the first area, after reaching the raising platform. Wait until it’s reached its highest point, then triple jump to the left to find the cake.
1-14
After reaching the hallway above the large area where you need to kick three explosive barrels at the scientists to shut off the lasers, quickly release the next barrel and kick it to prevent the scientist from locking you out of the room holding the cake.
1-15
After reaching the second area and deflecting the missile at the scientist to shut off the lasers, use the nearby exploding barrel to reach the area above. Quickly jump and explode near one of the switchable walls to block access to the above scientist. Then jump up to the area above to find the cake.
Cakes 16-30:
2-1
After reaching the first section with robots to your left, there will be a blocked off room to your right. Run past the robots, break the glass pane, drop down and destroy the power source to the left. Then proceed right and return to the area above to reach the now accessible room with the cake.
2-2
After using a super-jump barrel to cross a large drop and breaking through a glass pane, quickly explode the scientists to prevent them from locking you out of the cake to the far right.
2-3
After reaching the second area with spinning wheels, ignore them and drop down to the right to a room with the cake.
2-4
At the top of the first area, jump and explode on the sentinel between the first and second platform. Then wall jump up to the cake using the blast from the exploding sentinel.
2-5
After using a super-jump barrel to avoid the raising water, ride the upcoming raising platform and continue upward. Activate a barrel release sensor and continue wall jumping up the shaft (you’ll have to slide down the wall a few times to wait for your splode ability to recharge). In this area, jump up and activate the sensor to shut off the laser, allowing a scientist to break a glass pane. Follow the scientist into the now accessible area to find the cake.
2-6
After reaching the area with the sentinels and shutting off the lasers with the two sensors, proceed to above where the lasers were. Before heading further right, wall jump up the wall to your left to reach a platform with the cake.
2-7
After reaching a pit with spinning blades, proceed up the shaft above. At the top, head left and drop down. In this large room, you’ll need to use a sequence of four super-jump barrels to open one of the previous barriers to proceed in the level. Ignore the fourth barrel to reach the outer left wall. Then use this super-jump barrel to reach an area above. Head left and wall jump up to another room to find the cake.
2-8
After reaching the end of the long conveyer and using a super-jump barrel to avoid incoming spikes, the barrel will send you towards a long row of super-jump barrels. Spam A when you reach these to be sent to the area with the cake.
2-9
In the first area, after using the super-jump barrel, jump off the wall onto a platform to your left instead of dropping down further to find the cake.
2-10
In the first area, after blocking the scientists, head left. Release the barrel and use it to reach the area above you with the cake.
2-11
After reaching the large area where you have to continuously use explosive barrels to get across while avoiding lasers, continue until you come to a wall. Use the explosive barrels and wall jump up this wall to reach the cake floating above you.
2-12
After using a fat scientist to bypass a turret, drop down and instead of continuing, jump back up and to the right to find the cake.
2-13
After using the second super-jump barrel of the level, head back to the left. Jump up and continue left, then drop down to find the cake on a small platform next to an acid pool.
2-14
While running from the large robot, you’ll eventually use an exploding barrel to jump over a laser and land on a conveyor going the opposite direction. The cake is at the end of this conveyor, underneath the edge of the next platform.
2-15
After reaching an acid pool and using the moving platforms to reach the next checkpoint, jump onto the moving platform to your right and then jump up to the left. Take the rising platform to reach the room with the cake.
Cakes 31-47:
3-1
After using a super-jump barrel sending you down a very long drop, wall jump up to the left to reach the room with the cake.
3-2
After using a super-jump barrel and breaking through a glass pane, you’ll soon be walking on glass panes over spinning blades. Follow the scientist to the wall and jump up to the next level. From here wall jump up another level onto more glass panes and the cake will be directly behind you.
3-3
After reaching the large area with the spinning wheels, use them to reach the upper area. Before proceeding to the right, drop to the left and fall past the laser to a room with the cake.
3-4
In the first area, at the far right, there will be four super-jump barrels in a square formation. Using the lower left barrel will send you up to the cake.
3-5
After reaching the end of the second large area and breaking through a glass pane, activate the nearby sensor. Wait around until the spikes lower and some platforms come down. Use the new platforms to wall jump up to the area with the cake.
3-6
In the first area, after passing through the second spike trap while using the explosive barrels to climb, continue up to the left when you have the option to head right. The cake is floating near a super-jump barrel.
3-7
After breaking through a glass pane to reach a large area with explosive barrels above an acid pool, use the first few to climb upward to reach a lone explosive barrel. Use the explosive barrel to reach the floating cake.
3-8
After using the first super-jump barrel and wall jumping up the crushing walls, use the green containers to the left. Up here, explode near the switchable platform then continue upward. Release the super-jump barrel, then drop down and use it to reach the cake in an area to the right.
3-9
While running from the large robot, after kicking the explosive barrel to shut off the laser, the cake will be underneath the upcoming platform.
3-10
After reaching the end of the level, use the wall above the exit to wall jump up to the area with the cake.
3-11
After using the super-jump barrel to get across the spinning blades, continue upward and use the explosive barrel you come across to jump up to the left. Use the sequence of four super-jump barrels to be shot down a shaft with the cake.
3-12
After reaching the large area with multiple spinning wheels, use the platforms to reach the furthest left and right platform. Activate the sensor on both sides of the area to shut off the lasers in the center surrounding the cake.
3-13
In the first area, after using the super-jump barrel and wall jumping up and over the wall, the cake is to the left of the next super-jump barrel.
3-14
While falling down the long drop and avoiding the lasers, keep falling past the first exit to the right and take the second to reach the area with the cake.
3-15
After passing the first turret and reaching a checkpoint, continue jumping all the way up the wall to the left, past the laser, to reach the room with the cake.
3-16
While running from the large robot, after deflecting the missile and using the super-jump barrel, the cake will be underneath the platform you land on.
3-17
After passing the second section of falling and kicking explosive barrels at the scientists to shut off the lasers, you’ll use a super-jump barrel to cross an acid pool. When you regain control, use the blue wall to your left to wall jump up to the area with the final cake.

Just wanted to say thanks I much prefer text versions when it's easy to say where the collectibles are (unlike something like Assassin's Creed flags)

Brilliant guide. A couple of things to add: once you get to the checkpoint after getting the cake you can safely quit out - no need to complete the level! The achievement popped for me the checkpoint after my last cake
